Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

weird

none of the other bluetooth wireless controllers have struggled this much right?

I suppose the XB1 had issues like this for sometime

I wonder what the root cause is

The Xbox One controller uses a form of Wifi for wireless connectivity and can be a pain in the ass if your console or the controller are near a router. I used to live in a small apartment with my Xbox and router in the same room. Every 20 minutes or so the controller would just de-sync and connect on it's own randomly.

Why are people giving Nintendo so much shit for selling a $70 pro controller when the DS4 is $65?

Since Nintendo is Nintendo. How dare they provide something at a similar close as another company. Never mind it has more tech inside it for a similar price. They should be selling everything cheaper just because. There is no sane or valid reason for why people should be upset with the Pro controller's price if they're not upset or call out Sony for the cost of their controller or Microsoft for theirs.

First console launch for a fuck ton of people in this forum, it seems.
Come now, the PS4 and Xbone launches were miles better than any other console launch in a long long time. They set a new standard. If Nintendo was clear in marketing that this is a soft-launch for the hardcore only and the real launch is in the fall then it wouldn't be such an issue.

Ah, this sucks. I figured the included would at least act as an energy passthru. Guess I'll stick with using a Pro Controller during TV Mode. I just hope the Joy Cons have a decent amount of energy when I bring them out for multiplayer stuff.

Joy-Cons last for 20 hours. While its dumb that Nintendo has a non-charging Joy-Con grip and that that grip is almost identical to the charging one, it's also not ever going to be an issue as long as you dock the Joy-Cons every week or so.

I'm quite concerned. :/

I seriously hope that the reason Nintendo isn't showing the Wii U version of Zelda anymore is not because it runs better than the Switch! We know about the lighting issue, but it would be pretty messed up lol

We already have seen Switch footage, and it's better than WiiU. What's your point?

What else is there to talk about? Zelda? Nintendo's not giving much information at all.

Fair enough.

You're right. No one could possibly have different priorities than you. Thank God you're here to clear the air and cut through the fanboy nonsense so we can just talk about the important stuff.

"Cut through the fanboy nonsense"? What the hell are you talking about? I'm just saying there are real issues and there are non-issues so it's better to focus attention (and consequently, Nintendo's) on something like a joycon desync rather than a lack of a browser. Quit projecting.

The packaged grip is just a holder. The LED lights on it are re-directed from the Joy Con themselves. almost exactly like how the new Dualshock 4 just has a cut-out on the touch pad now as opposed to another lightbar as some thought initially.

It's just a holder.

I'm confused. I looked at all that's included with the Switch and there is no charger capable included at all. Basically, the only way to charge the joy-cons, right out of the box, is to attach them to the main unit and dock it while it's powered on? Trying to figure out if I need to get the charging grip now. :-/

You can easily use battery packs and plug it into any USB outlet. It also charges quite a bit faster than on 3DS.
For your first part, I suppose, though in all technicality that was possible on 3DS as well if you bought a 3rd party cable with USB.

And we know the Switch's charge time. The time for a full charge is around the same as it is on 3DS.

It's not just the PS4 and XB1.

The Vita launched in 2012 with almost all of the functionality that PS4 has. The Wii U launched with the same OS functionality as Switch except it also had Miiverse (which was a huge feature), activity log, Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Lol which company would outright say that they're doing a 'soft launch'?

My router is like 1 foot away from my console, I've never had this issue.

The Switch version is the one that looks better (has a higher resolution, at least) and is coming out on the new system Nintendo desperately wants you to buy. It's going to get all the attention.

It depends on whether they switched to Switch (heheh) as a priority in the middle of development or took a nearly finished (and optimized) Wii U version and upgraded it as much as they could. The latter could result in a Wii U version that runs better.

The things you're dismissing are real issues to people other than yourself.

We're focusing on everything. It's a preview discussion about the console as a whole.

Eeeeeh
Xbox One launch was completely botched since their E3 announcements, far worse than most console launch I remember. Even them recognized that : http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Xb...re-Avoidable-Former-Xbox-Boss-Says-83947.html
PS4 had that famous Blue Light issue, which bricked a lot of consoles. It wasn't a widespread issue but still a present and troublesome one :

Not to say that it's an excuse for the Switch to not launch with features, but people should expect that buying a console at launch means not having everything fine since the start.

While it's powered on AND docked, actually. That's the only way to charge them out of the box.

That's the case. The idea seems to be that the Switch rests in the dock when not used with the Joy cons attached to it. If that doesn't work for you, a charging grip (or a pro controller) seems like a good idea.

No real confusion there, you can only charge the JoyCon by docking them! Their proposed battery life is about 20 hours, so you shouldn't need the charging grip unless you think you'll go that long without re-connecting them while docked.

No confirmation as to whether or not they charge while you're charging the Switch in portable mode unfortunately. That could be the one weird dealbreaker here.

I hope you are right and I am wrong.

Me too, but it is Nintendo so the ability to mess it up is there.

I will personally be fine with what they release for the rest of the year as announced. I never owned a Wii U, so I have plenty on my plate coming up.

I'm not sure are what is an acceptable amount of software for people. But I anticipate getting (in addition to Zelda) MK8, Splatoon 2, Mario and a bunch of Indies. That'll be enough to get me through the year. I don't need a new game every month. I still expect to get software for my 3DS and I have PC which I upgraded last summer.

I'd love to get Earthbound, though. I just bought the Fangamer guide and would love to play it on the go.

Not to mention the fact that Nintendo's gets 40 hours on a charge, and my lame old DS4's are lucky to get 4 hours sometimes.

Another comparison is Xbox One controllers. Great controllers, and I love them, but they're $60 and don't even include a rechargeable battery. That's extra!

So I'd say the Switch Pros are actually very fairly priced, albeit certainly not cheap.

On top of that, the plug and play Xbox One controller is $75.

Yeah, controllers aren't cheap anymore across the board.

The Switch Pro is a really expensive controller at 90 cdn not to mention that both Xbox one and DS4 are both on sale constantly for half the price but even if you look at it just regular prices. I don't know how anyone can say it's a good price for the switch pro controller. I definitely don't see anything to warrent the price.

If it sits in the dock, everything charges; it doesn't have to be powered on. If you put the joycons on the dock when you're done playing, it'll charge them and they'll be ready when you come back. I don't recall the number, but the joycons have pretty long battery-lifes.

My router is like 1 foot away from my console, I've never had this issue.

I honestly don't think the Xbox One disconnecting controller issue is about interference. It's pretty widespread and seems to happen at random to me personally. Whether it's hardware or software based, I don't know, but I given how little we know about either of the issues, I don't think anyone can come to anything conclusive as to why it happens.

Who hasn't had issues yet?

MHWilliams, Nintendo Force, pretty sure another GAF member here mentioned they haven't had issues either.

A few other websites have mentioned they experienced some latency or desyncing issues but none seem to have the same severe experience as Schreier.

Yes, but remember that they have a 20 hour battery life. I think you'll be fine if you generally remember to dock your Switch, and Joy-cons, before bed.

Wii U and PS4 have been the only I bought at launch so far but I followed the XB1's launch very closely too and bought that shortly after.
Then were you concerned with the blue light of death that bricked 0.01% of PS4 consoles at launch? Or the Xbox One's issues with Kinect voice commands prematurely shutting down the console? Or the sub 1% of Xbox One's chewing up discs during installation? How about the insane loading times on Wii U? Or the mandatory day 1 patch that took people 12+ hours to download.

There are always issues at launch. You should also be familiar with the lack of software at launch then. The PS4 got Knack and Killzone. The Wii U got Nintendoland and New Super Mario Bros. Xbox got Killer Instinct and Ryse.

Most of this is sounding great to me, but I will never understand how Nintendo manages to constantly mishandle the Virtual Console so badly. It could easily
be one of their biggest advantages over other systems.

They could sell the Switch to me with snes and GameCube ports alone. No new software needed. Yet, Nintendo gonna Nintendo.😕😖

it comes with a 40 hours battery and is rechargable out of the box?
