Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

It remains to be seen weather the new tech they included in the controllers will, in the end, be worth the price. I personally cannot see the point of the IR Camera in the JoyCons. But that does not mean the price is unjustified. The technology in the controller IS the justification. The price can be too expensive for your taste, as it is to mine, but that doesn't mean, given what is in there making it that price, that it's unjustified. Unless you think Nintendo should sell the controllers at a loss?
Of course they shouldn't sell it at a loss.

3 hours on zelda aint bad.

Is there any thoughts to what external charger I should buy? Got a couple of pretty long flights coming up soon. How many amps do we need to charge during play, or at least not deplete the built in batter further?

Anyone know if we can just bring the AC adapter for the dock along and use it as the charger for an undocked Switch?

Neon version pre ordered!
Alongside Puyo athe 27€ on amazon!
At launch Zelda and 1,2 Switch review codes should be enough but I should get also Snake pass code.
Still not sure about Bomberman and setsuna but during March I will probably get also those

This is bollocks. One can buy a switch, or any piece of hardware, and criticise it.

.This. I mean, c'mon. If there are issues with the hardware when it costs $300 (U.S.), and it doesn't work, even partially, I have a right to be bothered. If it seems to be an experience which several reviewers are having, I definitely have the right to be critical. I don't think there should be signal/connectivity issues like this if sufficient connectivity testing took place.

Yes, I have a pre-order, and yes, I'm keeping it.

Do you mean that the problem appears if you walk away with the console into another room? Or are you walking away from the console with the joycons detached into another room?
If it's the later it sounds like the Bluetooth connection cuts when you're too far away from the console. I have that problem with my Bluetooth headphones.

Nope, no room changing happening here, I was more referring to the Joycon messing up when I'm just sitting in front of my couch.

As unfortunate as the joy con issue is, I'm glad that this was caught by the press before launch. Hopefully Ninty can get this sorted out in the next 8 days, so we can have seamless gameplay.

In terms of this launch, this is 100% a Japanese style console launch. Well back when Consoles came out in Japan first. very light software line up and and all features not 100% out the box.

No Activity Log is the worst decision Nntendo's ever made. If Zelda doesn't have a ingame timer I'll have to use a fucking timer and manually add up the time just to know my play time. Fuckng ridiculous. Fuck off whoever at Nintendo made this horrible decision.

Yeah, imagine if you couldn't tell your friends your play time? Why even bother.

*Cries* on the joycon issues will it disconnect while in handheld mode? Thats all I'll play in. I hope I don't have D/Cs while in handheld mode.

Don't think we've heard anyone specifically mention handheld mode. Sounds like Bluetooth/wireless interference though so fingers crossed.

In my country, price drops are rare (even after US / Japan does it officially) as the distributor controls the price. I am sure it is the same for many countries. The price at launch and 2 years later will be about the same for me.

There are syncing problems with a lot of wireless stuff .. AirPods have them too but reviews seem pretty stellar, I am sure and hope it will not be widespread. Mainstream media will tend to extrapolate problems too. I think Nintendo should introduce the VC between now and the next big title (MK8?)

Most of the people talking shit most likely do not have pre orders and had no intention of getting one.

I myself will be having a blast with Zelda in a week and twelve and a half hours.

I could be hyped to the moon with a console, and still never preorder it. I'll be having a blast with Zelda on WiiU, and will pick up a Switch in a year or so like every other console I buy.

Just because I criticize the Switch, it does not mean I don't want one (eventually)

Controller lag or desyncs are a huge, huge fuckup if they can't fix it before launch.

I mean, you're actually fucking up the core input method there. Best not be a hardware issue because I imagine millions of these things are already on their way to stores.

What's the big deal, you're actually going to log your time manually if they don't do it for you? Got some screws loose man... Maybe you can just give yourself some parental controls if it's that important.

then why don't you have a PS4 with some great games that would cost you the same if less than the switch? Based on your own words, buying a Switch makes no sense.

or is your zelda love that strong.

Yeah, this isn't going anywhere man. You've been accusing the guy of being a Nintendo/Zelda fanboy and this post about 'zelda love' isn't much better.

I upgraded my PC in August and it plays games better than the either Ps4 or Xbox One. And I have a Steam library of nearly 300 games. None of the exclusives are enough to make me want to get either. RDR2 might change that if it doesn't come to PC right away.

That has me really worried; my condo has given the Wii U gamepad and Vita remote play issues from room to room. I guess I'll know in a week and change.

Can you prove this? People in the US can't even pre-order this even if they wanted too.

Oh I don't like it either. But the thing is not only packed to the gills with tech, but also new tech, and a battery that shames the competition. It's not an unjustified price, it's just expensive and that sucks.

I feel you, but you can't really say it's justified or unjustified until we see the hardware BOM. Listing off a bunch of features doesn't suddenly make it worth the price. I mean it's missing a headphone jack, has half the battery of the Wii U Pro controller, no touch pad, no analog triggers etc etc. I don't find that to be a compelling argument for the larger price tag if we don't know BOM. Like NFC chips cost pennies and that's being used as a reason it's more expensive. The linear actuators are most likely the reason but I still have a hard time believing they're worth a €15 markup.

Also don't forget that "overpriced" is used in colloquial terms as "it's too much for me to pay"

It's likely fixed in the final version, will be interesting to see if the game doesn't drop anymore when a huge amount of DoF appears on screen.

Unless there's some day one patch that fixes this... it hasn't been fixed. It doesn't happen ALL the time, but there are framerate dips for sure, and they're pretty jarring to say the least. But that's all I can say at the moment.

Ouch. What distance are we talking about here? 3-5 meters?

I'd say closer to 3 than 5 yeah.

Reading Totilo's write-up; it looks like there are MyNintendo Tie-Ins for these games? He didn't discuss it, but I noticed it on the left side of this screen shot.

The ability to share software updates via local wireless seems incredibly smart and handy too. Let's say I wanna do some local multiplayer Splatoon 2 with a friend, but I'm on the latest version and he isn't, we don't have to hunt down a router, I can just send him the patch. At least, that's what that feature sounds like it would be to me.

In regards to Zelda, it's briefly mentioned in the Switch impressions article on the Metro website. It says..

"We will risk a shuriken to the head from Nintendo’s ninja lawyers by saying that Zelda is everything you will have hoped for, and more, but we won’t be able to do a proper preview until tomorrow"

This is going to be something special..

Really cool feature. Since, as far as I've seen, press got physical copies of Zelda I hope that means physical titles will get us points!

Exactly.

So what I'm saying is, the price is justified by the included tech (though expensive, which sucks), but the issue then becomes, is the included tech justified? That's on Nintendo to prove. To me, I'm sold on the gyro and the HD Rumble (in theory, can't wait to try it) and I like amiibo so I don't have a problem with the NFC, but they need to justify that stupid IR Camera in the JoyCon R.

I also find it stupid that the JoyCon R and JoyCon L are both $49.99 on their own, despite JoyCon L containing significantly less in it (no NFC or IR Camera).

I almost wonder if Nintendo intentionally put Zelda the day after Switch hardware previews, knowing that they would be the more glowing of the two. Will we all forget about the little flaws of the launch OS and feature-set if press start talking about how Zelda is a GotG contender tomorrow?

Uh no.

I have two pre-orders.

And I will shit talk as much as I damn well please. I won't cancel my pre-orders because it's a new toy and I want to play Zelda, but I'm not a blind child that will give his life to defend a product that has obvious shortcomings launching in 2017.

This. Pre order is not an exclusive ticket to point out the flaws of this system

Just one simple question I'm not sure has already been answered: Can I play the Switch in handheld mode while charging?

I don't own a TV and my laptop only has HDMI output, so my only options are to play either on Handheld Mode or Tabletop Mode.

DS4 has gyro controls, touchpad, and a speaker.

It's probably "HD rumble" and the associated licensing fees and hardware involved that's driving up costs. They likely wanted retailers to have the same margin on the NS's Pro Controller that they had on the Wii U's Pro Controller.

Anyone know if we can just bring the AC adapter for the dock along and use it as the charger for an undocked Switch?

Absolutely.

I really hope so too! It'd honestly be really smart to tie the points in that way as opposed to giving a voucher in the box. That's too easy of a system to exploit.

Yes, the included AC adapter can function as the power supply for the dock, or a charger for the Switch itself. You can plug the USB Type-C connector directly into the bottom of the system.

I saw this on the GameXplain stream. Very, very cool.

That stream also convinced me the dark theme is better and I will be changing my background to that immediately.

Same but I have way more than you on steam.

The exclusives are there definitely there on the PS4. killers games that can't be found on the pc. . I was just trying to understand your thought process of why you would not get a ps4, but a switch which is the lesser of the two.
