Nintendo France: Switch does not support Bluetooth headsets/headphones

Bluetooth headsets seemed to be blocked from being used on the PS4. I always figured that Sony must've liked the idea of licensing fees for peripherals, since I'm pretty sure that every wireless headset has to go through their approval. We're definitely in a very different era from a decade ago, when it was still very much the Wild West when it came to peripheral support on Sony and Nintendo systems.

Huh, had no idea. Saw the headset icon on that manual page and thought it was supported.

They may not be supported for the system at the moment, but they should be supported by attaching them to your smartphone through the mobile app for voice chat at least.

Reggie briefly mentioned it in a video interview.
How considerate they don't explicitly block features of your phone in their app lol

E: Wait, why do we even have to rely on this site. Or are the outlets who received a console already not allowed to talk about peripherals?

Could be right but I'd wait for another source. Melty.fr has little credibility and they don't menion any other source than "Nintendo told us".

Yeah, there was a huge stink about it at the launch of the system and Sony still hasn't allowed for their use. I doubt they will, considering the success of their own headsets.

At launch all this is gonna do is play games

We dont have

- Legacy controller support but they are considering it

- Bluetooth support for accessories (it kind of took Sony a bit to catch up here as well with PS4 on a few devices)

- Online play and features.... yeah

- Virtual Console support

- support for third party apps

All of these things Switch is Technically capable of doing... but doesnt

What the hell is going on. I thought this thing WASNT being rushed.

One wire from your headphones to the jack, this is a non issue for portable users, unless you only have bluetooth headphones.

Every portable device I use supports Bluetooth headphones (my phone, my mp3 player, my Vita). Due to that, when I'm out and about or traveling, I only have to carry one pair of headphones.

Having to carry an extra pair of headphones just for one system is a huge pain in the ass. It's one of the major reasons why I rarely play my 3DS outside of the house.

I've been wanting bluetooth support on consoles for years. Even the PS3 didn't support it.

Would make things so much more convenient.

A handheld not supporting them in 2017 is ridiculous.

What the fuck. I only travel with AirPods now.

Guess I'll be playing Zelda on mute.

How do those ridiculous things even stay in your ears? After six months I finally told the EarPods I got with my iPhone to fuck off despite loving the sound quality.

Jesus Christ Nintendo.

All these basic options you're going to have to implement/bake in later fw updates.

They should have released later or have some functions ready.

VC being ready at launch one of them.

I think Bluetooth headphones would interfere with the JoyCons, which also run on Bluetooth 3.0.

I thought the latest revisions of Bluetooth account for this

We can pair 8 wireless controllers for Smash on WiiU but we cant support headsets?

Naw man the issue is likely the same as the reason PS4 wont add support for 3rd party bluetooth headsets

You don't speak for all portable users, considering some of us evidently care.

Why anyone would defend this oversight is beyond me.
I'm not really defending it since in tv mode this is a huge issue. I was just really responding to the " wires all over the place comment" from the guy i quoted.

Glad this thread popped up. I ordered a $30 a Bluetooth headset along with a 128g microsd card on Amazon yesterday. Just cancelled the headset and saved myself $30. Now I need to figure out a solution for headphones when playing in docked mode. A long 3.5mm cable is not my first choice either.

You'd see the pairing option in the UI. It's just not there currently. People were hoping maybe it's part of a patch.

Right and for people like you it's a big issue.

Not having BT is actually one thing that'd make me flip my shit. There is like no excuse for that, you can't even use the "it's a dedicated gaming device" excuse.

I think it'll get support for these thing though, assuming it does have Bluetooth which I'm pretty sure it does because the pro controller is Bluetooth right?

An AirPod has never fallen out of my ear and I've been wearing them 5 hours a day for two months—running, traveling, biking.

They're the best product I've bought in years.

I understand, thanks for clearing that up.

Probably the cable if they otherwise fit you comfortably. Regular earpods regularly were dragged out of my ears due to cable tug, AirPods been holding tight while walking, running and cycling.

It's like Nintendo forgets they have a hardcore fanbase that wants to know the fine details. How hard is it to communicate these features?

But but but everyone went crazy when Apple released the iPhone 7 without a headphone jack so clearly no one likes Bluetooth headphones anyway!!!!!!1111

Seriously though, this isn't a big deal for me as I use wired headphones on the go because the sound quality is better. Shame for those people who do want bluetooth support though. I expect, like many other OS features, it will come post launch.

The amount of handwaving of not just this but, other features that "will probably come later" is a little concerning regarding the Switch.

Well that's a bit better to hear.

Sick to shit of all the features that this gaming console doesn't have. I expect Netflix and BT and a web browser. This is basic shit. Unacceptable. I don't care how sexy the platform looks.

guys guys guys

you are supposed to sync your bluetooth headset to your phone remember???

.....

when that global shitstain app drops in the fall maybe

Nintendo is kind of doing everything it can to push me towards cancelling my pre-order, but lucky for them I never owned a Wii or a Wii U and the thirst is real with Zelda and Mario this year. I also don't own a handheld.

- Online play and features.... yeah: This is false. We have a few games that have online multiplayer at launch...Bomber-man and Fast both have it. We also can add friends, the only thing that seems to be missing is system wide chat.

- Virtual Console support

- support for third party apps

I wonder if they left it out because of the joy con sycning issues. And they just want to square that away before enabling it.

Nintendo should really just release their own specific switch headset. Wireless. Handles the PCM->surround conversion for surround sound. Handles patching into the phone app or whatever. Usb-c charged.

In other words, the equivalent of the psgold headset.

Everything about the Switch is extremely barebones. I wonder if they would have been better off delaying the console until the holiday season and launching with more features, problems resolves and a better lineup of games (also decent online and VC).
