Colin Moriarty is leaving Kinda Funny Games.

Judging by the amount of "I'll probably resubscribe/watch again" posts, this is definitely the best move for KF as a whole.

I can see why people are upset. The follow-up tweet to his "joke" was incredibly immature and stupid. That said I I find people who hope he doesn't have any sort of career after this to be ridiculous.

Holy crap. In that case I will need to memorize other "days" so I don't offend someone.

You could elect to take stock of what has been said in this thread, put yourself in another person's shoes, preferably in the shoes of a member of a less privileged social group and then give empathy a go. Try and imagine why this person whose shoes you are in may not necessarily be terribly fond of the joke when you properly apply context. You don't necessarily have to emerge from the experience a radically changed person, but at least one's understanding of the world beyond that of your own is always a welcome boon. And god knows we need more of that in this day and age.

Instead you chose to be flippant and dismissive.

You gotta give the guy one thing. He hasn't really changed in 15 years. The Colin on GameFAQs back then was mostly the same person. That was a different world though where Republicans were more saner.
Yeah, I dropped IGN's Podcast Beyond and then Gamescoops once Colin went to it years ago.

Not only for his politics which you can agree or disagree about however you want (I VERY MUCH disagree with), but just his shitty manner of debating and discussing things.

Why should people treat it as harmless if they did not believe it was harmless? Colin is all about free speech, right? So using a social media platform (just like he does so often) why the fuck can't people also express when he says something they don't like? This is where this bullshit attitude comes from. People aren't SJWs, or cucks, or PC culture, what they are is simply marginalized groups speaking up where they didn't in the past, and it rubs people like you and Colin the wrong way. Call it what it is. You want to be able to say whatever you want about whoever you want with no repercussions. Sorry, snowflake, the world doesn't work that way.

You are getting all worked up about this and calling me the snowflake? That's rich.

I would definitely like to tell you not to get your panties in a bunch. And in an ideal world your comeback would consist of telling me that my Y chromosome reflects some sort of defect or something. And then we'd laugh. But sadly PC culture these days. So I'll just leave it at take a chill pill please.

Fact is people ARE SJWs and PC culture is a thing. Don't deny the obvious. And no it isn't just marginalized groups who speak up either. Also, when did I say you can't speak up? Do so. But I will call your opinion ridiculous as you are doing to me.

Man the hate people have for him ITT is pretty wild.

He made a dumb joke in poor taste. That instantly makes him a Trump supporter.

In a position such as his he should have recognized that some people were offended by his joke, owned up to it and moved on.

I'm fine with having consequences for what you say, but people are so quick to label someone the enemy just because of a dumb joke it's crazy.

He is merely conservative. Not alt right in the slightest. No one has submitted any evidence of the sort asides from a random stupid joke that the majority of males in the world, left or right, have probably stated.

I think the issue is you are taking the joke out of proportion rather than me trivializing it.

Not really. He's an atheist. I consider Christopher Hitchens, a personal idol, liberal despite his slightly sexist views on gender differences.

Not entirely sure how I feel about this.

I like Colin + Greg.
I don't like Colin.
I don't like Greg.

They've each seemed to go in different directions and it made KF and PSILY XOXO more difficult to listen to over time. I really enjoyed Podcast Beyond back in the day, they were a great pair who played off each other very well. Guess I'll see where they go from here on their own different paths.

I just read that this is probably due to a joke he tweeted?! A bad joke is still a joke and not meant to be taken seriously.

Colin isn't a comedian. Although twitter accounts are personal and users are free to use them as they wish, anything he tweets still reflects on his place of employment and co-workers. It was just a joke, sure, but it was a shitty joke in poor taste. There was no reason for it.

Oh dear. You're struggling here.

This is a shame. I liked Colin's take on things, and honestly I think the furore around the tweet has been completely disproportional. Ah well, world we live in.

.

Poor baby.

Please.

Showcase for me this "PC culture" and these "SJWs" and the negative impact they have on your and others lives.

Please define SJWs and PC culture, just to make sure we're all on the same page.

Why are you like this?

And what's wrong with "SJW and PC culture"? I'm not really clear on the negative implications of even the most stereotypical versions of these concepts.

The bolded is what people are getting hung up on (along with his past Twitter history).

I agree. Greg by himself is just an annoying loudmouth and Colin by himself is just boring. They work well together as a team and can be pretty entertaining.

And you aren't getting worked up? This is exactly what I'm talking. It's just a bunch of bullshit code words for doing the same thing. You and Colin are also being sensitive. You are also getting worked up. You are also overreacting. You are also getting heated. But when you do it, it's not PC culture, right? It's not being an SJW, right? Fuck outta here already.

Woof, there's a whole fucking lot going on in this post.

Probably important to note, that if your political views were different, nearly everyone in the industry would come off as displaying their political views like a smart aleck asshole.

Just food for thought.

I don't know if I can completely agree with that. Sure, I get that to some extent (especially since I'm not American, and find many Republicans to be pretty dang nutty), but even Waypoint, which kinda takes a moralist, leftist slant on games coverage doesn't exert the same smugness that Colin does.

I assure you my issues with Colin aren't just from some political bias. Even when I wasn't a very politically conscious teen, I felt Colin rubbed me the wrong way.

Nothing about this tweet said women are inferior.

Also saying women can be annoying as a man is a pretty common joke.

Ever watched any sitcom?
It used to be OK to the the piss out of gay people on TV even up until the 90's, does that mean it should be fine to do that now?

No, because society changes and tries to be inclusive and not perpetuate negative stereotypes. This is what's happening with causal sexist or racist jokes, many are trying to move past that as it can be hurtful and a negative for society.

Anyone who clings to 'it's just a joke, everyone says it' comes across as the next generation of 'back in my day/society has gone pc mad', people who would rather keep things the way they are because they benefit from it even if it hurts other people.

if a bad joke is taken seriously, should you apologize for it?

In his position, yes he should, I agree and I think he will once the dust settles.

But then again, it was just a joke. Everyone jumping at his throat like that is insane.. even his people.. his friends from KFG.

Stop disagreeing with him! Outrage culture! So much for the tolerant left.

why is campaigning for social justice considered a bad thing again? please educate me, oh wise man.

People keep blaming the Tweet. It was only the final straw. There's a history of Colin being too political and controversial for KF's liking. I don't get why people don't understand that if they are such KF fans. The don't seem to realize KF is a business about gaming. Nothing wrong with being political, but when you do it all of the time it's clear it's a major part of your channel. But it was only Colin doing it. You don't see the others doing it nearly as much or if at all. So Colin clearly didn't fit with the group. The rest of the crew never argued with him. They let him rant for an hour looking uncomfortable. It was inevitable.

It's not just his crass joke. There's a history of this.

i wish SJWs/PC culture were half the menace "centrists" make them out to be, because maybe if they were we wouldn't have a bunch of fucks in power.

hmm.

http://www.un.org/en/sections/observances/international-days/

Okay, I'm sure this has already been established for you by this point but here: The hashtag Colin used in that tweet was a hashtag being used in recognition for Internationals Women's Day. There was a movement for women to not go into their workplaces on that day in order to illustrate how much women do in our society. This wasn't an accident by Colin. He used the International Women's Day hashtag on International Women's Day to make a joke about how women talk too much. This was blatantly intentional.

THAT'S your ideal world

If you want to live in a world filled with awful, unfunny, nonsensical jokes, you're already there

I come bearing good news for anyone who is outraged that this is all because of a single tweet: This was 100% most definitely about much much more than a single tweet.

Colin has been drifting towards straight political commentary ever since the start of Kinda Funny. Now that he's gone into full on anti-SJW mode, his departure was inevitable. The Kinda Funny community (like most diverse, willing-to-acknowledge-underrepresentation-and-problematic-traditions communities) isn't a safe enough space for his "reasoned and logical" dismissiveness of social justice issues.........Am I being too harsh?

The optimistic part of me thinks Colin wants to be able to say what he wants to say without forcing his friends and co-workers to do damage control to preserve the community and Kinda Funny brand. He recognizes he was driving a wedge into the "best friends" and he wants to avoid doing that. And no matter how much I wish he would've chosen to reevaluate the way he projected his opinions instead of choosing to be able to shout down anyone who criticizes him, I respect and thank him for at least trying to preserve Kinda Funny instead of asking Kinda Funny to change for him.

Edit: I knew someone would beat me to this point while I wrote this post.

Judging by the comments and dislikes on their YT channel, people are standing with Colin. Which shows what I mentioned earlier that he created a toxic environment that divided the fan base and made the rest of the crew look like snakes for simply trying to run a business and not be as political. Colin forced them to be very political. They always looked uncomfortable on their political videos. Nobody really challenged him on his opinions. Politics always plays a part in our lives, but it was clear Colin was more than just a guy with an opinion. He clearly wants to be a political pundit and scholar. KF is a gaming channel.

People keep mentioning the Tweet for getting him canned. This was just the final straw. KF just wants to do a gaming and casual conversation channel. They got tired of defending his controversial opinions and non stop political opinions. I think that's more of the reason he was canned than simply "KF are liberals who are intolerant of right wing opinions."

I'll tell ya what though, Colin sure did bring tons of trouble to not only himself, but also his supposed friends over trying to prove some dumb fucking point about making stupid fucking jokes. Sad to see.

Uhh seems you're the one who is getting worked up on this as instead of just passing it of and moving on or just not responding at all you keep responding with stranger and stranger posts. How about you take your own advice and stop getting so worked up.
