Someone leaked info Colin likes his steaks well done, and that shit ain't acceptable. This is somewhere all of GAF can band together and agree.
at least I hope, there better not be a well done defence force

On topic, new Colin FB message

https://www.facebook.com/appealtoheaven/posts/10103370127913459

Says nothing really. Actually, a bit disappointed he isn't acknowledging the shitstorm.

Why would he, he's cultivating an audience for his next show...

Why would he, he's cultivating an audience for his next show...

KF fans will check it out whatever it is. Plus you'll have countless forums, social media and everything else waiting by the sidelines either for "told you so!" or "oh". My bet is some Colin Was Right type show on politics and some gaming.

To go back on topic, man it's kinda rough seeing how much hatred the Kinda Funny guys are getting. I understand Colin getting it, but damn. The like/dislike ratio on their new videos is crazy. Some of the comments in there are completely toxic too. It's almost like all of these Colin fanatics decided to come out all at once and keep on pounding everything and everyone around them. It's insane.

I have to wonder when/if things will get better for the other guys. I legitimately like their content, and I can't imagine all this hatred being good. Eventually the pressure will bleed into what they make.

You reap what you sow. They all worked together at IGN, they knew what sort of person Greg was, the inflammatory nonsense he posts on Twitter and what sort of audience he would attract given a bigger presence but they started a business with him anyway when they should have seen this coming. Hopefully others learn from this; that some people are too toxic to do business with and by extension some people too toxic to have as patrons/viewers.

I don't follow boogie but I wonder if he was speaking out about the internet hate machine when gamersgate was at its peak.

He got perma-banned from GAF for being a Gamergate apologist and acting like a victim when called out on it.

Its almost like Colin developed a really shitty, toxic group of fans. Hmm I wonder why...

But it will get better for the others, Im sure. If only their bff Colin had the balls to come out and condemn his new followers.

That boogie video is all kinds of fucked.
Not only does he pass off racism as " trying new ideas", he is also saying " if your speaking up against this shit, you are the bad guy!".

Your entitled to your opinion guys and no one should call you out on them...
guess what youtubers if you weren't independent and saying this shit you'd be out of a job, so yea someone does need to call you out on it and it's not because the media hate you.

I know he's said he doesn't support Trump. But he's also praised lots of people and things associated with that administration while virtually always criticizing, scolding, and outright antagonizing everybody and everything against Trump.

He also apparently said if forced he'd vote for Trump over Clinton so....

i don't think greg has ever called him his best friend either. he frequently referenced someone else not related his show as his best friend.

also not to be confused by the moniker they always use to label their supporters aka "kind of funny best friends"

"My best friends, Ramon and Mike, NOT GREG"

I have no idea if he ever considered Greg a best friend, I'm just reading into things for funsies.

I'm pretty sure they both at least have referred to each other as at least being "one of my best friends".

Greg and Tim seemed way more positive in today's ep. Optimistic for the future and not having Colin go off on a ten minute rant about some garbage.

Really enjoyed it.

Yep... He can just ignore his own toxicity portray everyone supporting him as shining beacons of light or whatever and this his detractors as haters (which I mean is exactly what he did on Glenn Beck's show) and then ride off into his new role as the next Youtube atheist Conservative political Commentator and bring all his fans over...

So of course he's not going to talk about what happened...

For reference

He famously came into the GAF threads on GG to make it all about him and how our negativity (ie fighting against GG) was making him suicidal.... so yeah.

I think Colin's tweet was fine. Maybe a little tasteless (tho I don't even see it that way), but not nearly as bad as people made it out to be.

Honestly, it reminded me of jokes I would hear on sitcoms when I was a kid. Something like "Oh, my wife is going out with her friends tonight. Finally some peace and quiet!" *Cue Laugh track* Heck, it seems like something I'd hear on Honeymooners. The reaction to that was just absurd to me. People treated Colin like he called someone the c word.

It was a pretty lighthearted joke, imo.

Was it a lame joke? Sure. I just don't see how it was crossing the line.

I'd maybe expect him to talk somewhat on the last PS I Love You show whenever that happens, I guess.

Good guy with a lot of interesting things to say. KF is dead without him and the kiddies who had a tantrum over words can give themselves a pat on the back for pushing him towards greater heights than video games.

It was because he used the hashtag that was meant to show solidarity for women on international women's day, effectively mocking them. Nobody was outraged and foaming at the mouth, people just said "whoa man, that's kind of a shitty tweet" and he called them all humorless sacks of shit.

Edit: using that hashtag for that joke is kind of like going to a women's day protest and yelling "good grief ladies, enough with the nagging! Lol"

And then when everyone goes "what the hell dude?" He says " what you don't like jokes?"

Hmm. I guess. Like someone I know mentioned... I think some people treat hashtags as this sacred thing.. but it's just this made up thing people came up with. Outside of twitter, no one would have any idea what people were protesting about. To my knowledge, it's not like an official holiday or anything. I never heard of it until this Colin debacle.

I can understand how that could be construed as mocking, but I don't believe that was Colin's intention. I think he was just trying to make a joke, which was admittedly dumb.

Calling people sacks of shit was a bit overboard, however.

Where's the tantrum? Colin's the only one who had a tantrum. That and his defense force, like that guy who tweeted at one of the posters in this thread like 100 times in defense of Colin.

This is not true. A Day Without A Woman was the slogan used for this years international womans day. It was wide spread accross all social media and TV and websites etc.

It wasn't just a random hashtag for a few small groups of protestors.

It was all over the news at least a week ahead. You not hearing of something does not mean the rest of the world is ignorant.

Oh ok. I never heard of it before recently.

As a small l libertarian, it never ceases to amuse me how much most people on gaf understand approximately nothing about libertarianism.

I have relatively little knowledge of Colin, but I just saw his interview with Dave Rubin, and he sounded like a typical moderate republican to me, not really libertarian in any way and he didn't even claim to be.

He definitely isn't some libertarian extremist. Some of you people badly need to read some Lysander Spooner or William Lloyd Garrison.

That's why I don't talk about it on GAF. People just laugh at you and troll. The only positive libertarianism GAF had was when Gaborn was still around, at least from what I've seen in my time here.

From my brief exposure of Colin's material, he strikes me as more libertarian that say, Gary Johnson. But that's not trying too hard I suppose.

As for libertarian extremists, I think we've mostly moved onto ancap, (though I've been seeing the alt-right try and take over there). This is probably due to the fact the party has been shifting more and more conservative with each passing year for the sake of being palatable.

Guy says he was, "falling asleep there," as he hears the thoughts of a Native American woman, before he dismisses them.

What a cunt.

Because the argument is ridiculous. It had nothing to do with where the author came from. Horizon is literally the most forward thinking game in the last decade, and he's right to criticize the author.

Even Greg agrees! He says later on 'Are we really gonna pick on one word?'. So is Greg a cunt too? No because he's on the left. As for Colin, let's blindly attack him. Did you even listen to the podcast?

Oh ok. I never heard of it before recently.

The point is that Colin had heard about it and knew what it was about, and decided to try and provoke women to make some frivolous point about people getting upset about shitty behavior.

Greg doesn't go on a rant talking about having civil discussions and listening to other people respectfully. Colin does that and then whenever he is faced with an opposing thought he is constantly disrespectful.

He kept on his rant and extrapolated it to a ridiculous argument that was not related. Colin saw that article as an attempt to attack "PC culture" and "outrage culture" where in reality it was just a bad article that had shallow understanding of the game.

This thread...is only 2 days old and has more than 4k posts?!?

My mind is blown

How big was the FFXIII going Xbox thread?

People like train wrecks

This is my biggest problem with Colin. Arrogance is really off putting especially when its combined with disrespect.

Really?
What was the context for that?

Such a shame to hear, I used to really like boogie but i started to find that he would always pick the middle side when talking about controversies with other people. Likely half wanting to be understanding and half scared to take a side and get hate and it really felt like handwaving away serious issues.

I'm sure it has been discussed but is there any chance this could be from Rooster Teeth/Otter Media/Fullscreen threatening to drop Kinda Funny Games if Colin didn't leave?

Greg doesn't go on a rant talking about having civil discussions and listening to other people respectfully. Colin does that and then whenever he is faced with an opposing thought he is constantly disrespectful.

It's the same mechanism that bullies, oppressors, and wife-beaters do: lash out and oppress and then turn around and act like a victim that requires the empathy from the abused. It's a double action that on one hand abuses the victim and on the other hand exploits the empathy in the victim. You literally lose your mind and sense of reality when dealing with such people if you are constantly under their abuse.

The bolded is patently untrue. I have listened to every podcast he's been on for 8-9 years.

And the article is directly linked to PC/outrage. How can you not understand where someone can draw the line between the two? Even the Guerilla Games dev said something along the lines of 'some people will always be offended'.

Colin, the developer, and Greg basically all agree but Colin is the only one people are picking on as some kind of bigot. If you believe he was wrong to connect the article to outrage culture, that's fine. But how does that make Colin some kind of bad person? It's a disagreement you have with him, and nothing more.

You're doing a lot of selective paraphrasing and remembering

So you did not listen to the last podcast that was disrespectful to the author of the piece?

Greg and the developer responded respectfully voicing their disappointment that Horizon was looked at in a negative light when attempts have been made to create a diverse game.

Colin raged on about how this is outrage culture. Do you know what outrage is? It's not one article being written that receives push back from nearly everyone that reads it. Colin has repeatedly been criticized as being arrogant, condescending, and disrespectful only to play the victim afterward. If you want to ignore this fact then you can but don't pretend as if people incorrectly characterizing Colin.

You are wrong and I'm not going to respond to questions that pretend that I have presented an argument that I have not.

Colin is disrespectful and acts like a contrarian troll.

It's not that he disagreed with the point, it's that he was so dismissive of it. He basically formed his entire argument around people being offended for others while ignoring the fact that the author was native american

Just because a game is progressive doesn't make it immune to criticism. The author of the piece has every right to critique the game. You can discuss and disagree with that point, but being dismissive of it is just shitty. Greg's attitude towards it was also shitty, but it wasn't on the same level as Colin's

Words from mr. respect

I'll just reiterate what I said above, in another form: I hold zero shame being a straight, white male. That's how I was born. I've treated people with respect and dignity since I was a small child. That's how I was raised. I've done the very best that I can.

That said, it's strange that you'd ignore all of the work I HAVE done for social causes in propagating positive discussion in videos and podcasts with millions of cumulative views and listeners ranging on topics from Ferguson to the Muslim ban. Which, I hate to say it, is far more actionable and positive than a vast majority of folks have done, including you, I assume.

But cover your ears so your feelings don't get hurt. If I don't agree with you, I'm a bad, bad man!

You are wrong.

If you don't agree with Colin that the piece spawned from that culture, that's fine. I'm saying jumping from that to he's a bigot, not that you believe that but many people here have made that jump, is ridiculous.

The Guerilla dev sad: “That said, with the kind of culture of the internet that we have right now, it's impossible to predict what it is that may offend”

Which is the same thing Colin said. I think your problem is in the way Colin said it. But it's completely fine to think something is absolutely ridiculous. Doesn't make someone a bad person and he certainly doesn't do that all the time.

He was dismissive because the piece was absolutely ridiculous. Being dismissive doesn't make you a shitty person. Some arguments are indeed ridiculous and deserve to be dismissed. The Horizon dev did the same thing but in a more polite manner when he talked about how so many are offended easily. Doesn't make Colin a terrible human being.

How could Colin ever handle an audience alone? He rarely even goes to Kindafunny events now because his anxiety is so bad. How in the hell can he possibly do anything bigger than KindaFunny?

So you spoke as if you knew something was a fact when you had no clue what you were talking about. I suggest that you read up on this topic before discussing anything further.

Yeah, I gave my opinion on a forum. It's just an internet forum. It isn't that serious, man. And if someone can educate me on something, I'm all for it.

So I shouldn't have a right to speak my mind if I'm unaware of an internet hashtag that was derived from something fairly recently?

I've been extremely busy with my personal life lately between my full time job I started recently, and just things going on in my personal life. I apologize if I'm unaware of what's going on in the internet culture.

How could Colin ever handle an audience alone? He rarely even goes to Kindafunny events now because his anxiety is so bad. How in the hell can he possibly do anything bigger than KindaFunny?

My 2 cents is he just does is own talk into the camera 1 man show on politics. Or gaming. Or both.

If it gets a crumb of success, funding a 1 man show isn't anywhere near as costly as a group. Look at any metrics for successful 1 person shows, it's very lucrative and the running costs are very low.

It's the YT dream. Whether or not Colin can work without Greg and Co remains to be seen, but at least some of his audience is clearly primed to follow him anywhere right now. Jim Sterling has his own website for written content, and produces his own videos for video content. Works well for him. Patreon figures ain't shabby either. More than an average paying job.

I'll be surprised if Colin stays in gaming, though.

He can't. Kinda Funny and Giant Bomb are sorta the gold standards if you will. He's a writer at heart anyway.
