Mass Effect: Andromeda - EA/Origin Access trial coming March 16th - 10 hour trial

Lara Croft maybe? That's the vibe I get from her

I'm especially referring to the way her face animates and some of the faces she makes. It's very distinctive. I get the feeling they closely patterned her appearance off of a real person.

Anyway, I really like it, and I'm just not seeing all of the negatives that I read about from some people. It's a Mass Effect game, and in the first 4 hours everything is there for it to be great. So far it seems to have improved on the past games in most ways.

No. It's a little funny/janky here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary for Bioware.

Overall, I really like Sara. She (in terms of her default design) has a very distinctive look in terms of her mannerisms (specifically with respect to her facial animations) that really really reminds me of someone and I can't put my finger on it. It might be Supergirl. Not sure.

She is reminding me of Amanda from survivor

Played 3 hours on the OG X1 and I'm enjoying it a lot so far. It took an hour to get used to the overload of codex entries (most of the initial ones are copied from the first game, so you can skip them) and small text, getting to grips with the cover and combat controls.

Performance has been smooth overall, had one freeze which occurred when the game finished installing. Graphically, it looks a bit blurry with objects in the distance and some pop-in, but is an improvement over the last games. Habitat 7 and the shots of the galaxy are particularly nice to look at.

They definitely nailed the Star Trek explorer vibe they were going for, can't wait to get the new Mako and really start exploring. Dialogue has been a bit ropey, but the overall story arc is shaping up to be interesting.

For those having performance issues, restart your computer.

Origin actually gave me a prompt to restart my system after install but I ignored it, runs a good deal better now.

Watched a stream for an hour and nearly died from boredom. Wtf have they done? Give me my space opera 😓

How can you judge a whole game off an hour? Many many many many games have slow points. Some of the best games ever take time to get going, I mean ok the hour you watched was boring, maybe the other 60 some hours will be incredibly fun.

As am I, it feels great so far, playing on Xbox One S

Is the VA and animations anywhere near as bad as people are being dramatic about?

Ehhh, most of it is fine. Problem is that the few cases of bad VA and the bad writing (sometimes both at once) sticks out pretty badly. Some of the cut scene dialogue has some really bad direction, like one character talking normally and the other yelling back, as though whoever was directing them did so without any idea how the final scene was going to come together, and the actors clearly read their lines separately. Obviously separate readings are normal in this industry, but usually a director is able to keep their actors informed of things like tonality and noise levels.

Basically, it's standard Bioware level dialogue and VA. No-one's winning any awards for the dialogue, and without talent like Jennifer Hale to mask many of the issues it's not going to come across as the series' strongest entry. It's important to note that this doesn't feel like a step down in quality though. It's like they're meeting expectations but not even attempting to surpass them, so take that how you will.

Im with you and hope for the best, but its giving me huge DA:I vibes...

This is probably one of the worst first hour/opening I've played in a few months so far, lol. I wanted to quit multiple times.

I guess the ea access thing saves me money. Oh well. I wanted to like it.

How similar is it to DA:I? I've seen a few gameplay vids and it's giving me horrible vibes of that MMO gameplay.

I have played through the trial, explored most of the planet available and done most side quests.

And I'm sorry to say it really feels like space DAI to me :(
I think in the end its just gonna be more or less a 1 to 1 translation of DAI in space.

At least the fucking war table seems to be gone, its just optional now if I understand it right.

I've logged another hour and a half. 3 hours total now.

It's getting less terrible as it goes on, but this is still mediocre at best, plain bad at worst. I wish there was more emphasis on the new; all the characters so far are either bland or retreads. Especially the aliens; they're exciting when we haven't seen them before, not when they've become overly familiar.

Why do people keep saying this as if Dragon Age: Inquisition was a bad game? I loved it and thoroughly enjoying this so far

Bad story? Even worse Dialogue? Boring characters? Bad combat? Oh and MMO like sidequests etc. of the worst kind.

But it is okay to like it of course, but the things above are what I associate with the game.

But still a decent game, granted, Origins was better ( I'd argue 2 is the worst one ) Bioware have a great track record, I cannot say I dislike any of their games so far tbh, and I say that after very nearly quitting Mass Effect 1 as well on it's release

This basically, and I'm getting the exact same impressions from MEA.

I can't get over how flimsy everything feels. There's a solid game underneath the floaty animations and lack of polish, but right now it's not screaming quality to me.

Do the main character dialogue and facial and body animations get any better?

From the giantbomb footage... He just seems like the worst unfunny asshole that is like the first to die in a horror film. Not sure I can tolerate him for 30+ hrs.

Yea, Scott is like that, Sara seems a bit more personal imo

Its how I feel too. It feels even flimsier than ME3. Game lacks polish on many fronts. I'm sure I'll get used to it and enjoy the game regardless but it's a flawed game thats for sure. Some might love it in spite of that and some wont be able to stand it.

Sara is definitely more personable and relatable. Her voice actress has done a good job for the parts I've played so far.

Dragon Age Inqusition most be GAF's most hated game who still received top reviews.
I have a love hate with DA:I. I actually enjoyed the characters and the gameplay during the main campaign. However everything surrounding the open world was some of the worst shit I've ever played. Having any of that in ME:A sounds like a good reason to not play it.

My impressions so far, played it for about three hours last night and won't have a chance to dig back in until sunday at the earliest:

Played through the intro mission and dicked around on the Nexus for a while, then hopped into multiplayer, did the tutorial mission, and ran a couple multiplayer matches (bronze, died on wave 6 both times).

Game has its stilted moments with some bad dialog (my face is tired? dafuq) but otherwise it's been a blast to play. I wasn't expecting any side areas in the intro mission, and the scanner feels more like metroid prime's scanner visor than anything. As for combat, it is better than I expected, although I really need to get into the habit of not pressing A to get into cover, because I keep running into cover and then jump jetting right back out of it. Once I get that muscle memory properly adjusted, it's going to be great. Well, that and once I can switch off from the damn starting assault rifle. I've never liked it in any of the ME games, and I haven't started here. Mattock plz. :(

MP is a fucking blast, though. Honestly, even if the entire SP sucked, this would be worth the price of entry for me. I unlocked a couple turian classes, a salarian, and an asari with my preorder/loyalty packs, and I levelled one of the turian classes a little bit, and I honestly was not expecting the jumpjets/boosting to add so *much* to my mobility for this mode. I'm running with a loadout of sniper rifle/shotgun, which I *never* do because I always think I need some kind of assault rifle, but it works so much better when you can literally jump on top of a building to get a solid sniper perch. I really need to get used to the whole hover shooting thing though. It feels like the sort of thing that's fun, but totally unusable in Gold matches.

I know people are doom and glooming this game, but I can't wait to strap back in.

Why do people keep saying this as if Dragon Age: Inquisition was a bad game? I loved it and thoroughly enjoying this so far

People say this because while plenty of people liked DA:I a lot of people also didnt.

I loved ME 1 - 3 and loved the first DA but hated DA:I. My fear was they would turn ME4 into DA:I in space. If thats the case people like me are disapointed.

There is nothing wrong with liking DA:I and being glad this game plays like it. But it cant be hard to understand that plenty of people also didn't like that game and structure (MMO like side quests, tons of filler etc). Other problems people like me had was not liking the story, finding the characters uninteresting terrible combat.

Granted the Combat looks better in this but if the rest of the game follows the DA:I structure its prob not for me. At least not till its like 60% off or something.

I've played up to the trial cut off point being the type of player to really faff about a fair bit, reaching the cut off point at about the 7 hour mark. I've not really encountered any quests that were on the level of inquisitions "collect 10 stag rumps and mark these 5 supply caches" so far.

Aside from things like scanning dead colonizers when I encounter them randomly (they aren't on the map) and sending their ids back to the nexus, I've yet to encounter a quest that didn't open with an attempt to have a proper story hook, e.g letting you chat to a npc for a little while, rather than having them just say 2 sentences and send you on your way with a map marker.

It's inevitable however it'll end up with lots of sessions that are less exciting than the main story times given the focus on exploration it gives off so far. Depends on just what about inquisitions design you didn't like if its "DA:I in space" to you.

True, i get that, but DA:I reviewed well and lots seem to enjoy it, as did I, I didn't realise that a lot hated it as well. For me only the Witcher 3 beat's it in that Genre/Setting

Bioware gets an incredible amount of shit around here. It's unreal.

Game has some flaws, a bit of jank.... I'm loving it. It's Mass Effect. It's not DAI in space (although since I loved that game I'd be ok with something similar). Every animation isn't crap. Every bit of dialog isn't crap. Everyone needs to calm down. If I had to base my opinion on the first few hours of the original Mass Effect game, I wouldn't have liked it as much as I did after playing the entire game.

I brought DA:I on the strength of a particular review, it wasn't a bad game per say, but it was really, really dull.

Wait, what? I just watched a bit of Cohh streaming and they've got the table back from DA:I with timed missions you don't take part in?

Will have some impressions and a benchmark video (for anyone interested) running on a GTX 1070 FTW / i7 6700k
later today.

Edit: oops wrong thread.

Very good point about the og mass effect. I hated the start of it and almost gave up on the game, only to continue it, and reply the game like 5 times and it be one if my favourite games ever. So there is that. Hopefully it gets better.

Exactly, go back and replay ME, it's really slow and anyone remember the texture pop in?

I very nearly quit ME about 7 hours in(on Feros I believe), glad I didn't, but this is not a bad game in any regards from what I've played so far

Yeah, I can agree with you there. There's one thing that I don't know if I like yet about MEA though, and that's the fact that it feels like Force Awakens. Like, the structure of
the Habitat 7 mission mirrors ME1's mission on Eden Prime
to an almost worrying degree. To be fair, if MEA ends up feeling like a rehash of ME1, I feel like I'd be okay with that, but it ended up hitting plot beats with eerie similarity, like
comparing the lightning storm at the remnant building to the prothean relic and your first glimpse of the reaper
. I don't know. On one hand, it feels familiar and almost like comfort food, on the other it feels a little lazy, narratively.

I'm hoping that now that I've gotten past the opening scene and prologue that the game starts shining to the point the animations and dialogue become smaller issues in an otherwise excellent title.

This game improves on past Mass Effect games in most ways and so far I like Sara more than I like FemmeShep. She's more optimistic and relatable compared to the grizzled tough ass soldier that Shep was -- Which I don't find as interesting. We have enough badasses in video games.

So I'm a filthy european. Game will unlock on the 23rd here while the US unlock is on the 21st.

Will I be able to unlock it at US time with a VPN? How does origin deal with that?
