Moriarty supports the struggle of Black Americans, he just ridicules Colin Kaepernick for protesting

Moriarty supports women, he just makes sexist jokes on Women's Day

Moriarty supports diversity, he just only invite white men on his show

Moriarty cares about transpeople, he just complains about people protesting against professional harasser and transphobe

Moriarty cares about poor people, he just doesn't support policies that benefit the poor

Moriarty cares about removing safe spaces, he just blocks anyone who legitimately criticize him

Moriarty cares about native Americans, he just complains about them for 10 minutes straight when they write something about cultural appropriation

Moriarty cares about polite discourse, he just calls oppressed people humorless sacks of shit when they voice their displeasure with his humor

For all the things that Colin Moriarty claims he is, and all the defenders, moderates and supporters who claim similarly, I've yet to see something that supports this narrative of being in support of oppressed people. His actions speak louder than whatever things he claim to support.

great post. we can close this thread with this.

If all those points that I listed don't tell you what type of person Moriarty is because you disagree with one single point, then maybe you're just looking for a way out to acknowledge what his position is. Besides, he was all indignant and offended from a member of a historically oppressed group wrote a blog article about her feelings and experience on the matter of indigenous culture in a AAA game. The guy has issues and needs to talk to someone. Becoming so angry and offended over a blog article and written by someone who's marginalized, is very alarming. Regardless, stop sticking your head in the sand, because his actions should be a clear indication of how much support he's actually willing to give to marginalized groups and the things he wants to advocate.

The dude spends so much time on correcting and criticizing marginalized people, but how much is he in support of them? How often does he take action to lessen injustices via his own work?

Jesse Williams' BET award speech captures perfectly what Colin needs to do

Lime, you're doing the Lord's work.

Great posts.

I think the more likely cause was to shit on liberals without having to worry about sending away any KF supporters.

He's done tons of shitting before. But it was a day for women to speak out and for men to support them.. and what does he do?

Makes it a point to shit on women.

And the next thing he did was leave his business.. because he wanted to be able to shit on women. This guy isn't socially liberal. He's a literal human Poochie. When no men are on screen, he wants everyone to be asking, "but what about men?" He just joins a long line of supposedly neutral or quasi neutral political flagbearers that only talk to other right wingers or conservatives.

Like, does he even understand that there are multiple women in the industry that can't live in their house anymore? Women that can't stream or do interactive stuff because they have guys stalking them, and if they don't yet, they eventually are? He thinks himself a rebel or someone that "took one for the team" when even according to himself, he's already got stuff lined up. Meanwhile women have to constantly put up with being SWATTed just for wanting to play games live.

He's in the industry as a journalist, he should be aware of boots on the ground workers. Women get doxxed just for being in the credits of a fucking game. Yet he takes the one day women created to get their word out, and shits on the very people that provide him with his living. Because he wants to say fucked up horseshit and whines when people call him out on his horseshit. He cares more about what people that have nothing to do with his existence than those he interacts directly with.

"there are so many people that play video games, so many people that enjoy entertainment that don't have anyone speaking for them".

Man, fuck this guy. This might be the bit that's made me most irate in this saga.

I mean this WHOLE THING started because he couldn't hold back with his hot take on International Women's Day; a day when the industry is trying to make things more hospitable for women.

Cause lord knows most of the games media, the games development industry, and the games community ain't always the best to women. At best they're subject to the same kind of marginalization, pay inequality and discrimination in any other industry, at worst they're getting death and rape threats, being doxxed, having their sexual history plastered over the internet, having the places they try to speak up subject to bomb threats. Usually because they dared make a video about Mario or some fucking troglodyte thinks there's a grand conspiracy involving non-existent reviews and sexual favours.

And so a day comes along when its time to try, as a society and as an industry, to make things less fucked up for women in a field that honestly I'm surprised any of them still have the patience or tolerance for but nonononono Colin's gotta get in there with his sick burn to validate the unvoiced, much neglected voice of the straight white male who just wants to say hahahaha aren't chicks kind of noisy and/or annoying.

Fuck. That.

No Colin, pieces of shit like you already have a voice in the industry. It is deafening. That is the problem. You couldn't even go one day without being the centre of attention.

bruh

the problem with all of this VERY GOOD and LEGITIMATE criticism is that you know for a 100% fact if Colin ever were to read it he'd just say "w/e gaf has never like me anyway"

A gigantic racist incharge of a branch of government that is responsible for civil rights enforcement. He's super qualified.

The people who say he's qualified aren't stupid and know exactly what he's qualified for in their eyes: butchering the rights of marginalized people. They want Sessions to efficiently and vengefully go after the peoples they believe are intruding in space meant for straight white males like himself.

Just watching some of the more recent Kinda Funny Youtube content, and it's pretty awkward how uncomfortable they all look. Not sure when these episodes were actually taped, but it's clear that Colin has already checked out.

Yesterday on the live Twitch show they do, Greg and Nick made comments about how happy Colin seemed after doing the Rubin report and meeting with Glenn Beck, etc. It seemed like they thought this turn of events was something Colin needed to make him happy.

Of course they might just be trying to put on a positive spin as not to throw him under the bus, but still... glad that there's no visible animosity.

When can we all accept that Colin is a diet racist at best?

  • Makes disparaging remarks about Black Lives Matter protesting.
  • Attacks "diversity for diversities sake" in games.
  • Supports the extremely racist anti-minority Jeff Sessions for AG.
  • Lashes out in anger and resorts to name calling whenever anyone points out he only has white men as guests on his shows.
Reminds me of an old quote....
If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

There are no words to describe how perfect this post is, especially the bolded.

Colin spoke at great length in a Podcast before he made that Tweet about how refreshing it was to play a game with a strong female lead with absolutely no hidden agenda etc.

Yet, nobody talks about that. He's just a sexist pig.
lol the fact that he thinks there are games with a female lead because of 'hidden agendas' is kind of an alarm bell

Probably not over the tweet itself

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukisoucFIk4

He'd probably just tell Colin he's a shite "comedian". Does everyone remember Cleese's work in Fawlty Towers and Monty Python?

He would over Colin's stances on Black Lives Matter, Jeff Sessions, and diversity. Absolutely no question. Colin raises the alarm sound of racism and white privilege time and time again.

I love how anyone who still supported Colin in this thread has run for the hills as the evidence of his racism/sexism keeps piling up the last few pages. It's beautiful.

BINGO. Even when Colin tries to sound accepting he can't help but spew out racist or sexist rhetoric.

Im not running for the hills. I liked his take on the gaming industry.

His politics are messed up and i've known that for a while but I will miss his take on gaming as he understands the business side of things.

I like how Druckmann handled his leaving. Very mature even though they would massively disagree, they seem to still be good friends.

Fair enough on Colin. In regards to Cleese though, he takes quite a hard stance on what he says is political incorrectness, and even calls out Univeristy campuses. Those views often get others into some hot water. Meaning, is there some truth in what Cleese says?

This video is even harsher in it's criticism https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCj6YNIpqmA and has some jokes in it, that I guess people will come back and at me and say Cleese can get away with because he's a comedian. Which, I guess is true, but his words are still the same words others are saying? Context is key, but not everyone needs to be a comedian to make political statements, jabs, satire or mockery.

The painful irony is "I'm offended because you disagree with me" is usually something the right attributes to that "regressive left" he mentioned, yet he straight up says you're not allowed to disagree with him and he wants a safe space.

The difference of course is when a lefty says it they're at least saying "hey don't say that because it's rude to 100 years of oppressed people" vs "hey don't say that because it's rude to me, Colin Moriarty."

What an awful person.

I exercised my freedom by ignoring this douchenozzle during the IGN days. I see he hasn't gotten any better. Not surprised in the least.

And now he has his freedom to fail he so cherishes. Mazel Tov.

Yo, this is poetry.

Low hanging fruit Colin. The regressive left is definitely a thing, and they are authoritarian and want to police what you say, do, what games you like, what comedians you find funny, what shows you want to watch, and so forth. However, it's a fairly small camp on the left. Not as large as the Christian Conservatives who still campaign in fairly large numbers against pro choice and gay marriage.

Still, you know what you're doing. Put out that tweet and sit back and watch people lose their shit. That's not really the new thing to do, people have been doing it well before you Colin!

Edit: I should actually ask, does anyone on GAF actually identify as being part of the regressive left?
Not sure. My history of voting in Canada has been based on candidates and their platforms and not their party alignment.

Two months ago, just for fun, I took a Canadian political alignment quiz where they asked you like 70 multiple choice questions about various topics and how you view them, how important it is and what you would do, etc. I scored 91% Liberal Party (Left).

But I'm against policing everything. :p

Am I regressive? Am I doomed?

Just saw his Twitter feed post-announcement that he's leaving. I can't imagine what was wrong with his upbringing, plus, living with someone like him who is so super toxic... Christ.

Is that quiz still active? I'll take it! I did get schooled ealier I'm probably better to say authoritarian rather than regressive. If you're against policing everything then I'd say that is not authoritarian at all.

It might be good to remember he complained about London no longer being an English city and being pro-Brexit. He is an old racist.

Simply voting for Brexit isn't enough for me to class someone as racist, and that is from a remain voter and someone trying desperately to get Scotland back in the EU. This tips into the collectivism I am not fond of. Many voters to leave the EU might be racist, but everyone of them? Nah. I'd need to see a lot more damning evidence of Cleese to feel comfortable just calling him a racist.

The kindafunny guys all clearly like him, as do a lot of other gaming personalities, so I'm sure he's fine person to person.

Moderate liberals who want to politely discuss things with the far right and who seek no significant structural change in government and society should be called the regressive left.

Because a thread full of people who clearly dont like him, dont really know him and are squeezing any possible negative meaning from every word he has said, on twitter, isnt making anyone here a little biased.

He has said countless statements that are blatantly racist or sexist and can't be explained away. Are you denying this fact?

"don't really know him" is such a weak defence. dude is a public figure

If you are refering to your post of bullet points then yeah, I deny it. But honestly Im not here to defend Colin, Im trying to defend sanity at this point.

I just want people to step back, see how crazy this has become and think what are actually trying to achieve here?

I'm not sure how different Canadian policies are to Americans. Maybe Canadian liberals and conservatives are different.

It's strange coming back to this thread after hearing the rest of the Internet's take.

It seems like the only people criticizing Colin are professional games journalists and NeoGAF. It's weird.

The kindafunny guys all clearly like him, as do a lot of other gaming personalities, so I'm sure he's fine person to person.

I guess, but knowing someone has toxic views like that would be off putting to me. If someone has a total polar opposite political leaning as I do, I find it too difficult to be friends with that person. It'd be especially difficult if they were like him, a straight white dude and me as a minority seeing his subtle racist/sexist, stupid, typical 'white dude jokes'.

Definitely not nearly as toxic as this thread. On the reddit people who don't agree with Colin are sad to see him go and wish him the best, not fading into oblivion

Or maybe, and just go with me here I know it might sound crazy, there are wildly varied opinons everywhere on an issue that touches on something as divisive as modern politics, and "the internet", or "Reddit" or "GAF" are not singular minded entities. Nah let's stick with the "GAF is an echo chamber but this reddit channel or my carefully curated twitter/facebook accounts totally aren't" approach.

"The Internet" as a whole is a poorly moderated cesspool where people can more easily look at the political positions and behavior of someone like Colin and be like, "Eh, it's fine" without backlash. That's probably the difference.

Different strokes man. I have friends who have an absolutely brutal sense of humour. I have other friends who cant stand these guys. Its swings and roundabouts and you are never going to be friends with everyone. People are more than their political leanings, and clearly the Kinda Funny guys have a deeper friendship than that.

I listened to him on various podcasts for 6+ years, and so did many others.

So this narrative of "We don't know him." doesn't fly.

The reason this thread is 99 pages is because so many people are disappointed that someone they used to like turned into what he became.

People change. I have also listened to Colin on various podcasts for years, and I have wildly different opinion's compared to most here. So go figure.

Also its no one's right to be angry at someone for changing. People change, the World has definitely changed. Accept it and move on. Dont be angry at someone because they arnt what YOU want them to be. Where does that negative energy get you? Just walk away.
