well this is terrifying

The country is totally united though honest guys.

How anyone can look at that Daily Mail headline and think "yes, I agree with this editorial line, the Mail are the good guys here" is beyond me. It's just so sinister.

Well, at least they're honest about their Fascism.

This is why I laugh at the hand-wringing "moderates" when they get upset that I go out of my way to make Conservatives within my realm of influence, as miserable as possible. Fug'em it's war. So either get power and decimate your foe, by any means necessary, or prepare to have it done to you.

Simple: If you believe that the Conservatives/ENGUHLAND are the good guys, and all others are 'enemies'. Enemies deserve to be crushed after all!

I feel like I'm living in Erdogan's Turkey right now, except things aren't anywhere near as bad as Turkey despite how bad things are now.

Vote for May. You aren't a traitor, are you? /s

That was the only acceptable outcome though without involving UKIP and the BNP.

Not only that, but look at Torys then and now. It's night and day. The Lib Dems stopped them going full Tory.

How? UKIP and the BNP got 0 MPs between them. They did their voters a huge disservice by going into a coalition and that was reflected in their annihilation 5 years later. They should have let the Tories try and govern as a minority government

Edit: and yes, that Mail headline is disgusting. As usual.

is there a paper that isn't totally in the bag for the Tories? It looks like everyone has decided the result.

you wonder how anyone can vote for this and then you realise there's almost no dissenting voice.

Guardian, independent and the mirror. Although the mirror will struggle as Corbyn is such a failure. Suspect the guardian will go for the lib Dems again.

Guardian and the Mirror. That's your lot now the Indy has closed down.

Express hard-turned towards UKIP a while ago (mainly because Desmond wanted a knighthood if Private Eye are to be believed) as well.

Speaking of which, I presume the endorsements will be Tories across the board, Labour for the Mirror and Lib Dems for the Guardian and Independent?

Where's that photoshop of Theresa May at the podium when you need it? My Google-fu has failed me.

EDIT: Twitter has provided this, however:

This just reminds me: There is a frustrating realisation to be had where people can love the hell out of something like Star Wars, which warns against the rise and rule of authoritarianism, but they will cheer the actual rise of authoritarianism like nothing else.

I agree with people on twitter saying that all the Mail is doing is accurately conveying the tone of May's speech earlier today.

I fucking detest the Daily Mail.

The day Rupert Murdoch dies will be a good day.

Whether he dies or not there are worst individuals than even him

Four men who don't actually live in the UK basically run it by proxy, by using their newspapers and other media interests as battering rams. And most UK politicians are scared as shit of them and fear crossing them.

Lord Rothermere or to give him his full title . 'Jonathan Harmsworth, 4th Viscount Rothermere' who owns the Mail and other assorted papers

The Telegraph is owned by the Barclay Brothers who in classic villain fashion even own their own small private island and of course the Sun and Times is Murdoch.

Which is why even some sane tories (yes, there are some) were happy that when the hacking stuff was going on it looked like they would finally be rid of having to bend the knee to him. Shame his somehow slithered back in by keeping a very low profile

You may want to consider working for the daily mail. You have a future there :)

I don't really understand UK politics. Is this all about getting a bigger majority? I mean, arent they already running the government? Is it not a bit risky?

Some tories seem to think that EU resolve will crumble if May has a wopping majority, or pushing the next election further out is better for negotiations.

cringing in advance at the oppo they're gonna dredge up on corbs. a junior staffer could do a good enough job on their own with 30 minutes on google.

Oh, yeah. Thing is, their current majority isn't actually too big - enough that a few dozen defectors is all it takes to potentially block May's efforts to pass legislation, and while much of the Tories will put party before country, there are some with enough spine (or are far enough on the fringes) to break rank - or otherwise threaten it. May wants to shore this up, especially as current polls shows Labour - the nominal opposition - lagging severely behind, so it seems like an easy win.

I'm sure this is basically the plan. Get a large majority by fighting on a platform of "BREXITBREXITBREXITREDWHITEANDBLUEBREXITBREXITMEANSBREXIT" (i'm pretty sure that's their actual manifesto), don't engage in any debates so as not to be questioned on policy, then get 5 years of fuck up the country however you want.

Murdoch doesn't own the Mail?

Huh, i didn't know that. I thought it matched quite well with him. To be fair I kinda assumed he owned all the absymal media we have.

It's also just basic political strategy. Consolidate power when you are in a position of strength. Waiting until 2020 is a much bigger risk. Things could have gone south by then.

Yep. Brexit is based on "feelings", there is no substance there whatsoever. Theresa May, who campaigned for Remain, knows the hard wall of reality is inching ever closer.

Already, Turkey isn't joining the EU, the German car manufacturers don't need us more than we need them, the EU hold all the cards, and some people are apparently already regretting their vote.

The original Brexit schedule put the election right when the crap was going to hit the fan. This gives them more years.

The Mail is, and always has been, fascist to some degree. They supported Hitler and the previous Lord Rothermere was a personal friend of Hitler and Mussolini. They are known for bilious editorials, racist articles, salacious and inappropriate gossip and staggering hypocrisy. The Sun and the Times are poor quality (in relative terms, The Times is at least a paper for grown-ups but under Murdoch it has become increasingly dumbed down) and subversive but they are much less malicious and tend to go with popular opinion. There is no doubt they promote Murdoch's personal agenda but he has favoured Labour in the past.

I'm expecting a single piece of card that says "Brexit" on one side and "means" on the other. You just spin it around and that's their manifesto.

Fair enough.

I am ever so slightly less negative about Murdoch now.
