What are everyone's thoughts on how they will open the show?

Last year, they opened with the Xbox One S intro/teaser trailer then Phil hitting the stage.

Does anyone think they will do the same, but use Scorpio as the intro video and then Phil hits the stage to talk about it?

--or--

Do they open with a game first? If so, which game?

I'd guess Scorpio and then Phil talking it and the first big game to go with it.

I can see them opening with a big game running on Scorpio with very nice visuals and then when the reveal of said game is done. Scropio box just on the stage talking about the game was running on Scorpio and u can buy it yadda with the design on the screen.

Though, I think they will follow like last year and open with hardware to get it out of the way.

I'm curious to see how they market the Scorpio. Sony took the distant approach to not offend their audience. I have a feeling we'll be seeing every title on Scorpio, which may or may not anger some of the Xbox audience.

They will start with scorpio.

That is a unique take on how Sony handled that. What makes you think that? I honestly never thought of that, I would think if they were concerned about offending their audience, they would of not even released it to begin with it. The people that would of been offended would of been more the hardcore audience which did not need marketing to know the Pro existed.

MS I believe are going the complete opposite with marketing of Scorpio. I think/believe that they will focus the majority of the marketing budget to Scorpio, but still promote the Xbox One S and whatever holiday bundle they will have, but I think 80%+ of MS Holiday marketing budget will be promoting Scorpio.

The former.

Phil intro speech and a big segment on Scorpio.

I think an opening with the first game they want to show running on the Scorpio would be a nice surprise though. Phil could then come out and say that game (maybe Crackdown 3) is just a taste of what to expect from Scorpio.

I'm hoping they open with Scorpio and get it outta the way. Then show nothing but games from then on out. :D

By this fall I'll have had my XBOX for 4 years, the length of a normal gen. I'm more than ready for Scorpio. The system has been announced for a year now and everyone has known it's coming so folks shouldn't be upset if they bought a slim recently. They were announced at the same conference last year. I want to see games running on Scorpio.

The Xbox one s will of course get bundles this holiday but all the commercials and games will be shown running on scorpio and it will get the most commercials

For example I think the shadow of mordor and Minecraft windows 10 edition are S bundles, and Assassins creed and Crackdown/SoD/forza( whichever one they pick) are scorpio bundles

For E3, I basically want them to come on stage and everything they show will be running on Scorpio. Start of with Sea of Thieves. Show off the stunning 4k seas, throw in some crazy pirate goodness, announce a massive open beta right now for Xbox One and PC users, then announce SoT coming with Scorpio at launch.

Then move onto a montage/segment about how Scorpio massively improves Xbox One games. Show off BF1, Forza, Halo, Gears etc and how great they look. Mention that developers are going to do more than just resolution updates and reiterate that developers are free to do what they want.

They are bound to have a segment on MR stuff, I just hope its pretty short.

If MS opens the show with a game, knowing that the main message/thing will be Scorpio, I would think that game would be Forza 7. The other thing, if they do open with a game and it is on Scorpio, usually that tag line that says "All in-game footage", what would be the listed next to it? Since we would not know the new name for Scorpio, would that text say "All in game footage, running on Project Scorpio"?

So, lights go down, Forza 7 engine sounds over the loud speakers, then amazing footage, tag lines mentioned, then Phil comes on stage and says that amazing footage was in-game on [insert name of system] and it will be available on day xx at $xxx.xx price point. Then goes on to show the consumer version of the system and talks a bit more about it. Also mentions that to get a true look for those watching on streams, go to xxxxxx website where we have uploaded 4k versions of all games shown to get a true sense of how amazing these games look on the new xxxxx system.

I want to see Scorpio's release date moved ahead of people's expectations. It would really suck potentially not being able to play RDR 2, Destiny 2, etc. on Scorpio when they launch.

That would be pretty damn cool.

They basically have to not do what Sony did and actually show people tangible benefits, not just for 4k TV owners, but for 1080p owners too. Sony found it pretty hard to show off the power of Pro on streams etc.

I think they'd show Crackdown if they start off with a game. That's the game that needs to be blown out. Forza wouldn't get as much time in comparison

I think that's exactly why they would open with forza. Quick 2 minute trailer to show off how good it looks and the new features. Crackdown needs a good solid 10-15 mins I think. I wanna see multiplayer and single player footage.
Edit: reading again and I think we're on the same page, but I think the game they show before Scorpio (if they do) should pretty much just be a showcase.

The dream:

Phil Spencer on stage, wearing a Battletoads shirt.

He walks up and says "and one more thing"

He rips his Battletoads shirt off to reveal an Original Xbox tee.

Cut to announcement of Xbox Replay, like Rare Replay for OG Xbox games.

When we cut back, his Battletoad shirt is back on. Somehow.

He rips it again to reveal a Capcom logo.

Vampire Instinct, a Darkstalkers x Killer Instinct crossover is announced.

When we cut back, another Battletoads shirt.

He doesn't rip it this time.

Battletoads is announced.

They will start with Scorpio so they can show off games running on Scorpio. Like they did last year running on XB1 S. Also I don't see them saying "These games are running on project scorpio", only to announce the console name at the end. That's just silly.

Edit: If they don't end on the Scorpio price, they will end on Crackdown. We know nothing about the game and the cloud stuff has serious potential to blow people away. It's the only thing I can think of that they could show that really steals the show.

I like your thought process.

So Phil would say "After our E3 presentation, we will upload 4k versions of all games for those watching at home. In addition, since we know not all future Scorpio owners will not have a 4k TV, we have uploaded what games will look like/perform for those that have a 1080p set". "In addition, we will have partnered with Digital Foundry and we will be posting footage of select Xbox 360 BC games running on Scorpio with DF showing performance improvements for games running on Scorpio". You can replace "Scorpio" with whatever the name of the system will be.

In the end, to your point, unless MS streams the conference in 4k, there is no way for home viewers of the conference to really see the jump that Scorpio can provide, so they MUST provide direct feed 4k/down sampled 1080p for viewers at home, as you said, Sony already crashed and burned trying to show HDR and 4k Checkboard at the PRO reveal, so MS cannot make the same mistake.

That would be a damn good idea. Letting all the 4K footage appear at the same time, gives people the chance to see what it looks like. If MS can give a convincing reason to upgrade because of 4k, then people will do so.

Mostly just excited to learn the price and release date of Scorpio. But I'm kind of hoping we will get a refined Kinect, only available as an add-on, that ditches the camera, or uses a more basic one, and instead is mostly a microphone.

Im actually saying screw it, I will now firmly believe its launching before D2

Its launching with Shadow of War and Madden last week of August, incentive to get sales on the two big sport franchises, big fighting game and Forza launches in its familiar window

my thought from other thread

Interesting. The One S launched in August, maybe its sales during that period were good enough to try again with Scorpio rather than the usual November launch.

And if you think about it, given what Scorpio is setting out to do, it makes sense to get it out early before the big winter releases so all of them can be shown off on a system people already own.

They will probably copy how they rolled out the S, that won them like 4 months in a row NPD or something. Release the 2TB version first then 1TB later on

Maybe it'll open with Phil on a screen discussing the next step with Xbox, only to have him enter the stage and say that the Phil on screen is being rendered real-time on Scorpio.

Hee hee

Do you reckon Microsoft gives any time to Fallout VR, or will that be Bethesda only?

I've thought the same, since fallout 4 vr was mentioned in the Scorpio reveal video @ e3 2016. If it's as incredible an experience as it's being boasted, it would be a potential killer VR app to launch with.

The stage is in complete darkness, you hear a car revving its engine then pulling away, building up speed, you hear it brake and it starts to slide, you then hear the Kudos noise, the screen flashes a P, more Kudos noise, a G, even more Kudos noise, then finally an R.
Well, a man can dream haha

Failing that start with Crackdown 3, starry night on the screens, camera pans down onto the city "huh, i can see my house from up here"

Also,

Xbox One X

Xbox One Two or we riot!

Dammit, I can hear the Kudos sound effect in my head now

They released Phantom Dust for free before E3. I thought that would take up a small spot in the presentation but clearly not anymore. They also said there isn't going to be a full Halo reveal and I also thought that would take a spot but not now. It has also been mentioned that there won't be a Gears sequel in 2017. This also clears up some room. I expect to see Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, Forza and some Minecraft from a games standpoint of existing known IPs. As far as new announcements, I have no idea and I like it that way. Microsoft lost its way half way into the 360 generation and just started to recover a few years ago. Essentially all the issues or gripes with the platform have been fixed with the exception of first party games. Now is there chance to show they are willing to take risks on long lasting first party franchises. It has been awhile since they have done that.

As far as hardware goes I do expect something similar to last years E3 in which the hardware is shown off early. This clears up time for games which I think is important for Microsoft to gain any traction this E3.

That's just my two cents for now. Can't wait to see what actually happens...

What's the general consensus as to Scorpio's release date? I'm thinking there's no way they could wait til Oct/Nov with all the games dropping this fall. Plus, wasn't there a comment by Phil saying something to the effect of they were ahead of schedule with Scorpio? I realize that could mean anything or is just PR speak, but it gives me hope.

Would it be crazy to think Scorpio could release as early as August?

Mid to late October. I can see an October 17th release date

He earliest imo would be September. August is too early. The big heavy hitters aren't dropping at that point.

I want Scorpio to release as early as possible. I think September is the earliest, tho I would love to be proven wrong. I just want it out by the time all the big games come out this holiday.

Same, if they manage an early September release it would be awesome.

I think the conference kicks off with a short Scorpio intro, Spencer going on stage stating that the following game is running off Scorpio. The first game - State of Decay 2. Show ends with Crackdown 3 running off Scorpio followed by the release date and price. My prediction is August 22nd. $400 for 1TB, $500 for 2TB and Shadow of War digital game download bundle. Also expecting a $500 2TB Crackdown 3 and AC Origins bundles in November.
