Nintendo E3 plans detailed

Where's all the leaks? Mario doing a good job.

I hope nothing gets leaked. We're getting into the danger zone where leaks and rumors will become prevalent.

*crosses fingers*

How can there be leaks if there are no games to announced? ;)

Nah seriously, there are some things going around where I'm happy they haven't (fully) leaked yet, like Mario+Rabbids. I want an E3 with surprises and hype. Nintendo at E3 these past years has been good to great, but I'd be happy if they go one step beyond that and make everyone go crazy over their announcements.

Exactly that ... the direct is focused in 2017 so for example :

Fire Emblem Switch is confirmed 2018, rare to have a remake of a Pokemon game on the same year as the 3rd version and I would doubt Animal Crossing would come out in the same year as the mobile version

I was talking about general 2018 line up not the games that would appear on Spotlight this year.

I'm very surprised Mario + Rabbids hasn't leaked more.

The two announcements where I'm trying to reel in my expectations are Smash 4 Switch and Pokemon Stars.

If those two are announced — it's done, it's over, Nintendo wins the show in my book. But despite the fact both have been heavily rumored by reliable sources for months now, there's still a chance they're either not real or won't show. So, I'm a bit guarded in looking forward to them.

You need to let your guard down 🙂

I wasn't hinting at anything. I was saying to let your guard down as a little humor. I guess it didn't come off well.

REGGIE: "Phew... That was close."

Nintendo going to explain their plans for VR. Going to set itself apart with a 3D slider. Will come with a cheap built in biometric sensor to scan joycons.

Semi-related to the topic: what 1st/2nd party titles are we gonna expect for 2018? (talking about the full lineup in 2018, doesn't have to be shown at E3 necessarily)

"No-brainer" predictions:
* Smash Bros. Deluxe (Q1)
* Animal Crossing (spring, maybe February)
* Fire Emblem (summer)
* Retro's game (late spring or summer)
* Mario Maker 2 (holiday)
* Kirby (any time, probably spring or early autumn)

Hopeful predictions:
* Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC
* Pokemon Diamond/Pearl remakes
* Metroid
* Pikmin
* Remasters: Donkey Kong Country Kollection, Fire Emblem Echoes: Radiant Saga, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time + Majora's Mask HD
* New IPs (of course)
* WarioWare (will also accept a new Wario Land by Good Feel)
* Rhythm Heaven

Fire Emblem Echoes should've also released on Switch. Do a Fire Emblem Collection: Awakening, Fates and Echoes on Switch.

Echoes would have looked utterly hideous on the Switch, unless they spent far more time and money on it than they were willing to.

It's a relatively easy thing to port Wii U games to the Switch, but I'd bet it's an absolute bastard of a job to get a 3DS game looking decent on it.

I think Pokemon DP remake will definitely come next year.

If there was no Stars rumor from Eurogamer, I would of predicted that it would come out this year.

The new movie has too many 4th gen pokemons and I don't think that's just a coincidence.

How much money are you guys expecting to spend during / after E3 on Nintendo stuff?

I'm expecting a few imminent releases across Switch and 3DS, or at least an imminent Virtual Console launch on Switch, and I'm going to have about $45 of eshop money set aside to blow on hype purchases.

Piplup's the only surprising inclusion there- it's not like the Pokémon Company has ever needed an excuse to pimp Lucario out before.

I'm not making any major predictions, but I'd say that we're more likely to be focused on brand new Pokémon next year than we are a Diamond and Pearl remake.

Oh, yeah, I think the time is right. Sun/Moon in 2016, Stars in 2017, DP remake in 2018. Then maybe take a year off and do gen 8 in 2020.

Faint chance they switch them around and do DP this year and Stars next year, but I think the first option is more likely. Sun and Moon were so well-received it makes sense to follow them up.

During the time of E3 i.e. the month of and right after? I'm definitely getting Splatoon 2 and will probably get ARMS and maybe Ever Oasis. I'll splurge on GameCube virtual console if that gets announced.

Probably just on major releases and some indies, though the only one that interest me for purchase so far is BattleChasers when that comes out. Overall I think it will be like this....

Arms
Splatoon 2
Fire Emblem Warriors
Mario Odyssey
Xenoblade 2

If any of the rumor stuff like Pokemon and Smash then I'll get those as well. I have to see how Rabbids is as the intial idea isn't doing much for me.

Either way I'll likely spend a lot on stuff for Switch.

I agree. As amazing and hell of a bargain a "3DS Fire Emblem" collection on Switch would be, it makes no sense.

I think stuff going forward could be planned to be released on both Switch and 3DS with relative ease, but going back to "up-res" existing assets and refactoring dual screen shenanigans is quite the task.

Pokemon Stars is not gonna get announced at E3, the pokemon company just does their own announcements whenever they feel like it

All due respect but I don't think past precedent alone is the best argument for anything. I mean, you easily could have said a few months ago, "Nintendo would never port a Mario Kart game, they'd just make one from the ground up." Pokemon Stars itself, if it's real, is an unprecedented scenario. First Pokemon third version to jump between console generations, and most importantly, the first mainline game on consoles. If there was any one Pokemon bomb big enough for Nintendo to convince TPCI into dropping it at E3, it'd be that one.

That said while things are getting tight, there have been several cases in the past of games getting announced the week before E3 and then getting a full blowout at the show proper. So it's true that anything can happen, but I don't think an E3 unveiling is that unthinkable.

I just dont think it'll show up at all. Its one thing to say nintendo would never uproot our expectations but the pokemon company is a big enough deal for them just announce it whenever. Especially now.

I dont think the stars rumor is bunk but it being revealed at e3? Naaah

That's fair enough. I definitely think whether it is or isn't announced then, it probably will have a good presence at the event. ORAS and Sun/Moon had significant E3 presence despite being announced prior.

I predict Pokemon Stars is real but is 3ds/2ds only. It's going to cause some major angry reactions.
I hope and expect to be wrong!

The "pattern" with 3rd versions barely exist anymore as is. Instead of Grey it was B2W2, instead of Z we got literally nothing. All bets are off on what they actually follow SM with.

This is how I feel as well. We can't predict what the Pokemon Company is going to do based on history.

They've already said that Retro has hit a big enough team size to work on two full size projects simultaneously.
But if Retro has problems with Tanabe and he said two years ago he has no clue what Retro is making then there's no reason to believe they're making Metroid Prime 4.

I don't see them making MP4 at all.

What was the latest news that we've had on the Retro Studios and Nintendo fronts respectively, regarding the next entry in the Metroid series?

It seems to me that Tanabe does want to make a new AAA Metroid Prime game. Problem is, he can't seem to find the right team and budget to do so. Which is part of the reason we ended up with Federation Force...

It's sad, because at least on GAF, people overwhelmingly want another First Person Adventure Metroid Prime by Retro starring Samus.

I mean, sure. They usually like announcing things by themselves, but if they've taken so long what's <1 month to improve Nintendo's e3

Both great points and part of what I'm getting at. A lot of traditions have been broken lately by both Nintendo and Pokemon so we can't rely on those alone. It's true TPCI make their own rules, but at this point in time given how tight things are getting and how much of a showstopper an E3 announcement would be, it's not unthinkable for them to recognize the benefits of taking that approach just this once. Rockstar are famous for never showing up at E3, but Sony managed to get the PS4 port of GTAV at their conference.

Didn't this turn out to be a misinterpretation?

Yeah IIRC Miyamoto's quote was not that Retro could work on two project simultaneously, but he was hoping that theoretically it was something that could happen... or something. And I think a guy from Retro even addressed that, saying that they can find the time to fit in development assistance with Mario Kart 7 between DKCR and Tropical Freeze, but there's a difference between that, and doing Donkey Kong while developing MK7 from the ground-up by themselves.

The reason why Pokemon was never announced at E3 was because Pokemon was big enough that an announcement at any time would steal people's attention. They don't need to be lumped with dozens of other announcements at E3. Unless they -really- want a Pokemon game this year I just don't see it.

While that's true, things are starting to get tight. If they announced it in April or earlier this month that'd fit in with being an announcement that grabs attention in a clear time on its own. But late May/early June is when publishers start to get announcements they don't want drowned out by E3 out of the way anyway. Either way it's going to be surrounded by other announcements, but at least E3 proper is when all eyes are thirsting for a showstopper.

Yes, that was Michael Kelbaugh, president of Retro Studios. When Tropical Freeze was announced and everyone thought they were surely developing Metroid Prime 4 in conjunction, he stated that Retro can do a big project and a small project at once, but not two big projects together.

This is a reasonable position, but I feel you. Smash switch plus Pokémon stars is an incredible lineup and will definitely draw eyes if shown at e3.

Oh, I see. Thing is, if you're expecting Retro make a new IP, then who do you expect to work on MP4 (As in, a proper followup to the Metroid Prime trilogy)?

I am expecting that somehow Nintendo's has helped Retro's development team to create two games simultaneously to streamline their projects and give us more love in the form of games.
