This isn't an Wii/Wiiu situation, in this case I think brand confusion is wanted.
They don't want to give an message that Xbox Scorpio is the ultimate console and Xbox One is garbage.
They want to send the message that all current xboxes are amazing and the best place to play.
That way when someone hear that message and go to the store it will be pleased to know that the amazing xbox they heard costs only $200 and not $400.

Honestly, with how much goodwill the name Scorpio has generated thus far, I wonder if Microsoft has seriously considered keeping the name in place. Beyond the most absolutely hardcore out there, who will immediately be able to associate Scorpios new name with whatever Microsoft ends up calling it, don't underestimate just how easily confused everybody outside of that group can, and will, become.
I guarantee not all those people who have been hearing about Scorpio will immediately know the new console name and Scorpio is one and the same.

Exactly. Therefore both will retain the Xbox One name. The Scorpio narrative will help elevate the Xbox One brand.

I'm starting to wonder if they will just call it Xbox Scorpio.
Not surprised to see Project Dylan (likely) end up at MS. It was Casey Hudson's project before he left BioWare for MS. If it's a Destiny style game it also makes sense for them to counter Sony's Destiny deal.

And Sakaguchi is announcing 2 games but I think they're both on the 22nd as per the other GAF thread, so doubt it's anything Lost Odyssey related.

I think the most intriguing thing we know so far is that Phil is stating that the conference will be more than 90 minutes long. I am really excited to see what they have to show. I am going in with expectations in check, but when the head of the division is saying it is going to be longer than usual, that has mean that they have a lot to show. As I posted earlier, somewhere on Gaf, it could be that they will spend a little more time on Scorpio itself. Not everyone reads Gaf and DF and they probably want to explain to the masses watching what the specs are and what it means to devs and games on Scorpio.
I want lots of games to be shown like everyone else, but I also would not mind a bit of a deep dive into the Scorpio...wonder with the extra time if they will show benefits to Xbox 360 games as well?

I think we need to start thinking a bit outside the box for the naming convention. So far they've given us Xbox 360 and Xbox One which are both pretty unique and unusual names if you ask me.
Think high end, 4K and if it has any sort of Windows integration, it could be something totally crazy.

Sorry for the delay, as always, when I decide to devote time to be social life also decides to throw a wrench my way.
Anyhow, I filled the first train!

I think that's exactly what they want to do. They're going to try and blow the doors off with their E3 presentation. That doesn't send a message that the One S is garbage. It just says that Scorpio is a really good system if you're willing to spend the money on it. But switching the S around from the One S to Scorpio becoming Xbox S is super confusing, just as much as Wii/Wii U. Not a wise move at all.

I hope they can deliver the games. New IPs out the butt that don't end up being cancelled, and sequels to things we don't expect.
