Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

I doubt many people are gonna remember that sensation after today anyway.. what will remain is the direct comparison with the ps4 Pro more than whatever price one person hopes for.
 
I look forward to the moment when it is confirmed to be $499 and everyone will suddenly be like "Yeah, I knew it was going to be $499 all along. I've been saying that for ages now.". :)
 
I'll say it again.

MS knows $499 isn't a price people will like. If it was $499 they would have got that shitty announcement out of the way prior to E3.

Unless they really are that dense.

Console will die at $499.

Especially as leaks have been pretty much contained this year from all the main companies. I agree just put up a price of XXX.... no need to actually put in the price until the actual event.
 
My prediction: It's $399, and there will be a montage of screenshots of posts from this thread shown at the conference, proceeded by an introduction courtesy of Mr. Keighley.

I'm more than feeling that price is dubious because it was heard in a rehearsal. Those things have tight security, and I don't believe for one minute that Keighly would overhear something in a rehearsal and post it. Firstly because you don't just turn up to a rehearsal (you have to be invited) and secondly theres an element of trust/NDA for people who are there (usually unless its like a security guard who wants to lose his job). Someone in his position who needs game companies/developers to support his awards/shows/interviews, and he leaks from a rehearsal... nah don't believe it.

I still think it's going to be $399. MS knows they need to come out of the gate very competitively with the Scorpio.

At $499 I wouldn't bite until a price drop, personally.
 
I don't know what to believe anymore.

I'm sticking with $399 though for my prediction though. I think its totally reasonable for Microsoft to play some mind games like this before their presser, so everyone is pleasantly surprised when the price is announced at the end of the conference.

I also think its totally reasonable for them to intentionally leak this out ahead of time to soften the blow a bit if that is the price.

I just think that Microsoft is smart enough to not launch another $500 console against Sony's $400 console. They got smoked the last time they tried that. They would also give Sony the advantage of being on the market for a year by the time this launches, meaning they'd be able to drop the price much quicker and potentially have a $150 or even $200 price advantage. That and it doesn't seem like their exclusive lineup is going to be able to compete with Sony's over the next few years so they at least have to make Xbox Scorpio the best place to play third-party games for the same price as the PS4.
If this thing is $499, good luck.

With 499 the performance has to be super high. I dont care about 4K stuff as I dont own a 4K TV yet. I would hope that the games run at least 1080P/60. If that was the case I could think 499 would be great as that would be cheaper than building a PC.
