Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

Can anyone remember a time that GK has 'confirmed' something that turned out not to be true? He has a solid record IIRC. He doesn't shoot his mouth off like some twitter commentators.

Keighley did his job - and he was right. I applaud him for that. Great work.

Now, Microsoft really shat the bed. I didn't think that they'd do it for 3 years straight, but here we are.

Geoff is truly a class act. The fact that he waded into this thread of shite and STILL was able to laugh at that Doritos Pope/congress image speaks volumes. Good on EviLore for offering the opportunity for doubters to apologize. Lord knows I would have just banned a good bunch of y'all, but that's just me.

Opening this back up for a bit for anyone who'd like to, say, follow up on any of their emotionally charged console war cognitive dissonance Keighley shit-talking from earlier? ;b

Skepticism's encouraged, and you're under no obligation to believe someone's tweet in and of itself, but Geoff's a class act, y'know? Memes or otherwise. And he's part of the community here too, and waded through a lot of vitriol directed at him and his professional credibility to personally confirm his statement in here.

It never made sense that he would play along for a pr stunt and put his credibility on the line

Exactly. All the silly conspiracies saying he was in on it... Make no sense. Would you ever trust him again, even if he said "lol just kidding, Ms asked me to".

Also, there's no way that someone in his position would leak the price right before unless he were absolutely certain; once again it would destroy his credibility.

This is too much crow for a day.

This has probably been said already, but this definitely wasn't a "insider leak" type of thing. Judging how Geoff was talking to all the Xbox figureheads, this was definitely a planned move intended to soften the blow.

Since the X is for their hard core demographic, it makes sense to spread the news here first. I don't view this as a personal victory for him as the mods say, but good on Geoff for being in the position to be able to do it.

Not a trolling question: How much does playing 4K Blu-rays add to the cost of the X? It was enough for even Sony not to include the feature in the Pro, so I'm wondering if it really is a big factor in the higher price.

I didn't really follow this whole saga, but people had actually decided Geoff was either wrong or click-baiting? Nah, dude doesn't do that.

Still, as someone said a few pages back. Show looked like $399, but it's actually $499. X plays UHD Blu-Ray though? That's the only thing that makes that price even remotely palatable, and then only to those that were in the market for a player anyway - and that segment isn't nearly as price sensitive, but that just makes them more likely to have a comparable, or better, PC.

lol so many of you look like such clowns....why on earth would Geoff make people question his integrity just so he can be some sort of scorpio marketing shill.

I can't even tell when people are serious or not. Some of these posts should be studied when cognitive dissonance is being taught.

Why on Earth would Geoff leak the price in such close proximity to the event, when he hosts a show that people like Phil Spencer do him the courtesy of turning up to. Why would he risk fraying that relationship to confirm something not months, weeks or days, but hours in advance?

It still doesn't make sense to me.

Never doubted Geoff, but did in fact doubt that the console would launch at that price. I thought it was simply MS having told everyone (including their partners) that it would be 499, and Geoff letting us know.

The price makes no sense to me. But to me, a lot of things don't make sense about this generation for them.

I'm glad it was reopened to allow people to hopefully apologize for assuming he would stoop as low as to hurt his credibility just so some company can do a 180 bomb announcement.

Geoff I'm sorry I ever doubted you! :) In this fight you destroyed Microsoft. Although I still think it wasn't the best decision to bet your credibility on this :)

Xbox One S has a 4K Blu-ray player so those in that market can buy one of those as I did. In my mind, it'd be better value to buy a Xbox One S and PS4 Pro than a Xbox One X based on what I saw today.

Also on the topic of this thread, I'm disgusted. It goes without saying that a lot of self reflection should be going on right now.

Geoff, he's the best. I shouldn't have doubted. I really didn't doubt him though, I doubted ms would be so silly.

His word is canon, he is the pope after all.

Top of the line 4k dedicated players are several hundred or more. They are better at what they do so apples to oranges kind of thing.

Most likely because MS wanted the info out there pre show so that the price announcement didn't take all the air out of the show. I'm guessing MS wanted to give pep the bad news in advance. Sometimes people should try using common sense, although I know it's often lacking on here. Especially when the news hurts somebody's feelings about their favorite piece of plastic.

... It wasn't a fight against Microsoft. He was reporting gaming news, which is his career.

The only people turning this into fanboy wars are people like you.

Microsoft really should have excluded the UHD Blu-ray player like Sony. Sure there are some that will use it, but I feel like the majority will not. Almost everyone I know only streams their movies these days. This could have lowered the cost at least by $50 I think.

Anyone expecting $399 despite all of the hints, indication, and facts were setting themselves up for disappointment or an opening to Troll. Assuming XBOS is $250 this holiday season, twice the price for 4.6x the performance is fair and expected with what we know. It would have been great for this to be $399 but it wouldn't help the sales gap no matter what the price was.

I can understand them wanting the conversation about price to be over by the time the conference started.

The thing is though, that the conversation was always going to be about price no matter if it were $399 or $499.

I don't think he ever wanted to go against Microsoft, he just published a scoop like every journalist would love to do.
If he "destroyed" someone in the process it would be those fanboys who didn't want to accept the reality and started attacking the messenger. That petition thing was pathetic.
