Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

A backhanded apology and continued shit talking. Don't think this is really what the thread was reopened for.
It wasn't smart of him to post this today. This won't improve his relationship with MS. Plus he went after developers (Luke Smith). How is that smart?

But it definitely made for more entertaining E3. So I'm glad he did :)

Microsoft really should have excluded the UHD Blu-ray player like Sony. Sure there are some that will use it, but I feel like the majority will not. Almost everyone I know only streams their movies these days. This could have lowered the cost at least by $50 I think.

If they are trying to make it an important part of a media center, including it is a big plus. Some don't want both a console and a separate player as it's annoying clutter. And hard to have the one s have 4k playback and remove it from a higher tier product.

The only thing I found odd about the whole thing was I've never seen him to "leak" anything before.

I don't know if it was a planned move to lessen the impact of the price announcement. If it was I think it was pretty worthless to do it mere hours before the reveal. Should have done it a week ago.

The One S should have excluded it as well. The majority will never use it to play Blu-ray movies.

Vs after it's announced? Lol. A scoop is a scoop. He obviously weighed the pros and cons and the scoop won out.

I apologize and take what I said back.

I'll eat my crow now

It was definitely smart, especially since he probably did his due diligence before unleashing this info. He likely increased the coverage of his youtube platform from this alone amd further establishes his status as a very credible industry journalist. So big victory for him.

Luke Smith went after Geoff's credibility with his post. Any response from Geoff is fair play.

Saying the truth is more important than how popular you are.

VS commenting on MS post and replying to Luke Smith. My remarks about him being stupid had nothing to do with the original prediction. I'm glad he was right. It restored my faith in humanity :)

$499 was a safe bet. More powerful than Pro so it wasn't going to be $400 or below and anything more than $500 would've looked bad. I mean it's not even a safe bet but common sense.

Not that I'm questioning him or anything, nah, nothing like that, just saying this was ludicrously easy to guess.

I actually heard that the UHD disc drive is only about $15 more than a regular Blu-ray drive. It wouldn't have made a huge difference, and I still think it's a shame the Pro lacks one.

Shilling himself for easy PR wins. There was no inherent benefit to gamers or to Microsoft to leak the price five hours before the show. None. He was the only person to gain from this. Now we have dogshit "he's trustworthy" and "he's a legend" riddled in this thread showing that he now has people in line behind him for future "BREAKING NEWS"

Still a bit harsh, but now I definitely need to see that interview!!! So once again I'm happy he did.

The conspiracy theories never made any sense if you thought about it for just a few seconds. Why would Geoff destroy his cred for some one-time marketing stunt that only a few forums and websites would be privy to, just a few hours from when the thing gets revealed? Where's the big marketing payoff in that? Why would Geoff agree to such a stunt when everything we know about him points to a principled, upstanding guy?

And it is not like the price was outrageous or anything like that. The console has a liquid cooling for christ sake. Any notion of this thing being anywhere near $400 should have ended when DigitalFoundry confirmed that fact back in May during their exclusive first-look at the thing.

If MS are openly rehearsing with the real price they probably don't mind, it wasn't an internal memo.

Opening this back up for a bit for anyone who'd like to, say, follow up on any of their emotionally charged console war cognitive dissonance Keighley shit-talking from earlier? ;b

Skepticism's encouraged, and you're under no obligation to believe someone's tweet in and of itself, but Geoff's a class act, y'know? Memes or otherwise. And he's part of the community here too, and waded through a lot of vitriol directed at him and his professional credibility to personally confirm his statement in here.

Tyler, the question is : to what end? I think we know the answer to that . It's not like we were going to get a falsified price directly from Microsoft a mere 5 hours later. Many of us here in the community huddle together awaiting to be surprised so it's shitty when an amateur PR stunt takes away from that.

He may be nice, but his marketing schemes compounded with his selective brown-nosing does nothing for his credibility.

You were waiting to be surprised at $499?

Ladies and gentlemen, we have achieved price point spoilers.
