Dragon Ball FighterZ - Characters, Specials, and Stages Discussion

And the two recent Dragon Ball movies, both of which were pretty well-received (especially Battle of Gods, which is considered to be the best movie by many)?

To be fair, I don't think any of the DBZ movies are "good" but my personal opinion was that both "Super" movies were terrible.

Gohan's Anger is still my jam when it comes to Faulconer stuff.

Really looking forward to what Arcsys has in store for this game's OST though.

Budokai soundtrack so good ;;

Are we at the point where we argue about Japanese OST vs American OST?

Because no one is gonna convince the other side about anything, especially when both sides are adamant that the other is the worst thing ever created in life.

Yeah, that's just how it is with Dragon Ball. A lot of people came to it at different times/iterations and like what they saw. Some people prefer the more adventurous arcs in Dragon Ball with Goku and friends/enemies being well developed characters, and others like the senseless constant doomsday action of DBZ where being a cocky whiny prince who loses most of his fights is considered cool.

People just come to it for different things.

You........you hated Battle of Gods?

Bruh......

Yep. Only part I liked about it was when Beerus hit Bulma and Vegeta went off. Hated everything else about that movie and still do.

That said, I do like Beerus and Whis in Super, just not that arc.

I feel the same way, BoG might be better than most DBZ movies, but it doesn't mean that it's necessarily good.

Yeah I didn't like BoG either. Found the whole thing trite through and through, even Beerus at the time. It was only later on in Super did I really start to enjoy his character.

Loved RoF though!

For some reason the only thing I remember from the OST is the music that played when Beerus and Goku go underground during their fight in Battle of Gods and Goku goes Super Saiyan.

I'm sure the LA dub kept the Japanese OST and I looooooved it. Same with other stuff like Genkidama > Spirit Bomb.

I always found it funny how they "forgot" Super Saiyan was meant to push hair upwards on Gohan in the cell saga. Its just his base hair but yellow. Super fixed this with the RoF saga.

One side is right though (The one that doesn't like cheesy rock ruining a serie)

Bruh I feel the same way...

Wasn't a fan of the movie but the more I watch super the more I like beerus and whis

I liked RoF a little more but I wasn't too crazy over that one either

For once we have another argument against using the Faulconer OST, other than "Kikuchi is better" (which is factually true by the way).

And that is: Ishiwatari is a better rock/metal musician than Faulconer anyway. If you're gonna go metal, might as well choose the better artist. I don't know if Ishiwatari's style will fit DBZ that well, but I know it's gonna be quality anyway.

Still in the Dark, folks. Still in the Dark.

Nobody puts the effort to put the intros and ending stingers or looping/ending where necessary to maintain the flow in these OST overlays. It's just "play song til ends, repeat."

Gotta do it right, y'all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct-brtaD5nI

Is Faulconer the one responsible for the garbage non stop rock music in the US version ? We got lucky in Europe.

The perfect example of this is the short Vegeta fight in the Broly movie, where they understand the value of silence and insert subtle theme at one point. That was incredibly well done for showing the despair of the moment.

yep
the way its edited into the scenes is extremely amateur too. Cant have a scene without inserting track 005 again! I feel the only people who are ok with this are fueled by pure nostalgia and nothing more.
I cant think of an edit that is more tone deaf than the DBZ dub.

not really; I remember other cartoons from the 80s/90s that were also scored like that. music never ever stopping

ok so Faulconer is responsible for the music itself, but not the non stop part

I remember the manga explaining they were in a low power state of SS (something they practiced in the HTC) which is why their hair didn't change shape

I'd rather have them spend money on the game content instead of licensed music TBH ...

Especially when the guys doing the original music are godlike...

I agree. Plus I personally like original music in games. Hearing music from the anime or any other source feels cheap to me. The only game that made it work was sparking neo.

I'm so glad dubbed anime replacing the music isn't a thing that's done anymore.

It was a really shitty thing to do back in the 90s.

I think this was so the jump to SSJ2 was more dramatic

Goku's SSJ2 hair isn't that drastic a change, and of course Vegeta's is even less so

Another good example is when vegeta loses his shit after Cell kills Trunks. The moment Cell breaks through the smoke and strikes down vegeta was completely ruined because they kept playing butt rock through the whole thing. There are some tracks i did like from the original funidub score, but they never understood that silence has it's value too. They just figured music always had to be playing even when nothing is actually happening.
