Honestly considering how some characters are, the idea of transformations will be something that is at least slightly prominent with some characters. For example: Let's say that if we get the chance to see Zarbon as a playable character. While you can do a few fun things with him, you can definitely enable him to have his transformation that would not only drastically change his appearance, but also give him more powerful attacks for a limited time before reverting back.
The question though is how many of these moments would we actually see considering that it doesn't feel like this is going to be that prominent if we aren't going to have the usual "transform to get stronger" like we have seen in the past. If we are going to have Sayians just start at their peak, there isn't that many other characters that do transform outside of Frieza and my previous example of Zarbon. If anything else, I'd wager we would see a case where it would be like "Sol" and "Order Sol" where you can have two separate characters, but to show them at different points where they can be rather different. In this case, that would give Goku and Vegeta their ability to go Blue while also allowing Gohan to do his "Ultimate" appearance.
Honestly though if we were to see a transformation that would be similar to Sol's Dragon Install, that would be a special kind of hype that would get people all the more excited for early 2018.
Sol's transformation is pretty drastic, but seeing as the SSJ transformations are little more than hairstyle alterations, I feel as though they shouldn't have too much of an issue with them? None of the actual animations need to change that much. Still though, unlike the Budokai series, simply swapping the model's hair out probably wouldn't work that well.
Like SSJ3 for instance, I suppose they would need to do a bit of extra work animating his hair to fit on all of the animations, since even the character's hair is animated on a by-frame basis in Xrd :
But that's still a farcry from the 2D animation method where they'd have to use an entirely different sprite to show a minor change like SSJ1 to SSJ2. So at least it's a real possibility. Yeah, it's probably going to be a bit more rare, but there aren't many characters that go through full animations like that. So hopefully the ones that do will be able to go all out. I'm kind of imagining a sort of Dark Phoenix situation for would-be characters like Garlic Jr., Zarbon, or Broly, where their larger forms are so much more ideal than the regular forms that they probably wouldn't even bother implementing the smaller ones.
On another note, this is the reason why i'm so excited to see 17 / 18 in this game. They always look like shit to me because the games are usually incapable of animating their hair or clothing correctly at all.
And to a lesser extent Trunks....
But Xrd's animation style does a
reallllllllllllllllllllllllly good job of capturing hair (and clothing) in motion.
So I feel like i finally might have an acceptable version of my favorite character X_X
Well complex costumes might be tougher obviously. (17,18, great saiyaman)
But changing a belt, removing a logo, changing a hair color, adding a scarf, I think it's within the realm of possibilities........
Yeah, I think the one thing that
isn't open season with this artstyle are completely different outfits. With all the little minute animation detail put into these characters, something as simple as 18's Red Ribbon outfit vs. her casual one would be alot more work than one would think.
