Dragon Ball FighterZ - Characters, Specials, and Stages Discussion

Yeah, it is. Well, Golden Frieza is basically just a recolor, but in case anyone was thinking that this game's artstyle won't allow them that kind of "model swap" freedom, yeah it does.

I'm personally praying that we get some crazy transformations in this game.

Honestly considering how some characters are, the idea of transformations will be something that is at least slightly prominent with some characters. For example: Let's say that if we get the chance to see Zarbon as a playable character. While you can do a few fun things with him, you can definitely enable him to have his transformation that would not only drastically change his appearance, but also give him more powerful attacks for a limited time before reverting back.

The question though is how many of these moments would we actually see considering that it doesn't feel like this is going to be that prominent if we aren't going to have the usual "transform to get stronger" like we have seen in the past. If we are going to have Sayians just start at their peak, there isn't that many other characters that do transform outside of Frieza and my previous example of Zarbon. If anything else, I'd wager we would see a case where it would be like "Sol" and "Order Sol" where you can have two separate characters, but to show them at different points where they can be rather different. In this case, that would give Goku and Vegeta their ability to go Blue while also allowing Gohan to do his "Ultimate" appearance.

Honestly though if we were to see a transformation that would be similar to Sol's Dragon Install, that would be a special kind of hype that would get people all the more excited for early 2018.

I was saying dont expect alt costumes. Sol Bad guy having a vastly visually improved dragon install with a new model isn't super shocking seeing how he's the main character of the series so of course he is gonna get some extra love. That shit is still all hand animated they did double the work for one character

Ky got a bit of special treatment as well being sol's series long rival

Well complex costumes might be tougher obviously. (17,18, great saiyaman)

But changing a belt, removing a logo, changing a hair color, adding a scarf, I think it's within the realm of possibilities........

None of Vegeta's moves have him transform during the animation, so it shouldn't be too hard to add a SSB install super for him. Goku, as I already mentioned, can go SSB for his install super, but swap the SSJ3 transformation in one of his supers for Kaio-Ken. I honestly don't see the problem.

I was more so referring to how they do SSB Vegeta and make him more than just a skin. Goku can get new moves and Kaioken, but what can they do with Vegeta? His SSB is basically just SSJ Vegeta with blue hair.

I feel like you can't have one SSB without the other, but if we get them as separate characters instead of just transformations, then Vegeta feels kind of wasted. I guess I can see them as just transformations that they'll show off later, but I kind of feel like they'll be separate characters. I don't know.

Well, Goku had new moves for SSG and SSB in Extreme Butoden, and that was before SSB Kaioken and further new material for the forms. They could probably make some attacks based on specific segments of existing battles even if he didn't really do anything iconic.

Welp, in preparation for this game I wanted to watch DBZ and a few of the movies. Finished Kai today. I also watched a few of the movies (Cooler 1, Broly 1, Battle of Gods, and Res F). Boy that was a ride. I'm definitely gonna start Super and OG DB but not for a while. I don't wanna burn out. Glad I won't be going into this game with no knowledge of DBZ. What a fun series.

I honestly want this game to kill MvC.

Capcom needs to learn a lesson.
They'll co-exist, but one won't kill the other in the FGC (especially when you factor in the combined efforts of Capcom's CPT & Disney's money). Otherwise Injustice 2, GGXrd, & Tekken 7 would have already killed SFV.

So character reveal or trunks trailer at EVO?

Ofc everyone hopes for a new character but it will probably be the Trunks trailer.

Don't get me wrong, still hype but not as much as a new character.

When you do watch Super. Since you watched Battle of the Gods and Res F. Just start on like Episode 28 of Super.

Since you saw BoF & RF already, just skip to Episode 28 of DBS. Most of the first 27 episodes are recaps of the two mentioned movies.

I also officially just got caught up on all of Super! It was a lot more entertaining than I expected, especially considering all the negativity it gets.

200% on-board for more Super representation, especially Merged Zamasu

Sol's transformation is pretty drastic, but seeing as the SSJ transformations are little more than hairstyle alterations, I feel as though they shouldn't have too much of an issue with them? None of the actual animations need to change that much. Still though, unlike the Budokai series, simply swapping the model's hair out probably wouldn't work that well.

Like SSJ3 for instance, I suppose they would need to do a bit of extra work animating his hair to fit on all of the animations, since even the character's hair is animated on a by-frame basis in Xrd :

But that's still a farcry from the 2D animation method where they'd have to use an entirely different sprite to show a minor change like SSJ1 to SSJ2. So at least it's a real possibility. Yeah, it's probably going to be a bit more rare, but there aren't many characters that go through full animations like that. So hopefully the ones that do will be able to go all out. I'm kind of imagining a sort of Dark Phoenix situation for would-be characters like Garlic Jr., Zarbon, or Broly, where their larger forms are so much more ideal than the regular forms that they probably wouldn't even bother implementing the smaller ones.

On another note, this is the reason why i'm so excited to see 17 / 18 in this game. They always look like shit to me because the games are usually incapable of animating their hair or clothing correctly at all.

And to a lesser extent Trunks....

But Xrd's animation style does a reallllllllllllllllllllllllly good job of capturing hair (and clothing) in motion.

So I feel like i finally might have an acceptable version of my favorite character X_X

Yeah, I think the one thing that isn't open season with this artstyle are completely different outfits. With all the little minute animation detail put into these characters, something as simple as 18's Red Ribbon outfit vs. her casual one would be alot more work than one would think.

Will do. I think it's weird that they did a recap of the movies in the show instead of vice versa, but w/e. Less I have to watch.

Do you guys think they'll limit themselves to the DBZ anime, or will also browse the movies for roster ideas?

Because I really want to play as Toppo from DBS.

If you factor in negotiations, I wouldn't expect the base roster to go further than the DBS Future Trunks arc. There isn't enough to go on for Toppo as a playable character, yet.

In short, Toppo is too new for the base roster.

At the very least, we'll see Broly (because it's Broly) as far as movie representation goes.

Toppo (I want him too!) is probably too new, though. At the most, I'm thinkin Super content will go up to Goku Black before we start talking DLC or Expansions.

I hope to see other characters outside of Z for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck with mostly Z for the base roster.

Super representation will probably just be Hit and Black.

Other characters besides them is wishful thinking IMO.

GT (Ugh) ones will probably be Pan, SSJ4 Goku or SSJ4 Gogeta.

I definitely think we'll see Super characters. It's the current series going on and it really does have some interesting characters to draw from right now.
