Wkd BO 0908-1017 - Beep beep, Reese. I- I- I- I- It floats. Oh , yes. It floats.

Yeah I'm too young and Asian to give a shit about Star Wars

I still maintain that TFA took a dive the second that old man showed up to steal his ship back

Is age really a factor when Star Wars has since its return in 1997 never gone away nor ever relinquished its crown as the most popular franchise even in non-movie years?

I believe I have read that Star Wars has been the #1 top selling "boys" toy brand every year for something crazy like 20 years straight.

I think that Star Wars doesn't generate a ton of fighting in these threads because most of the BO regulars who are big Star Wars fans are pretty positive about the franchise. They are actually excited for new films, and are not bitter fans reduced to hate watching anything that came out after 1983.

Those who don't really care for TFA (Bronson, maybe yourself), don't really care about Star Wars in general. There's also a bunch of us who like the newer films, but aren't super invested in any of it.

There's also no good rivalry for Star Wars right now. Trek fans are reduced to talking about the glory days, hoping that Discovery isn't a complete tire fire, and asking what went wrong with the marketing for Beyond. The MCU and DCEU are probably the two largest genre film fan bases right now, outside of Star Wars, but they are too busy fighting with each other.

Paramount has no chance at catching up to Lionsgate at this point. I wouldn't be all that surprised if Lionsgate increased their lead by the end of the year.

MCU vs DCEU is as much of a rivalry as you can call the Pats and the Jets a rivalry.

Any news on how Spider-Man has held up in China this week and projected for this weekend?

Homecoming fell off a cliff.

20.5M RMB this Friday vs 135M last Friday. So an 85% drop. This weekend should be around $10M in total, bringing Homecoming to around $100M in China. I don't know what a reasonable finish is at this point. $110-115M? Apes didn't help with the drop today, but I think that next weekend is lighter. Either way, the total will be quite a bit lower than the opening weekend suggested.

War For the Planet of the Apes opened to close to $20M on Friday (plus midnights) in China.

I don't even know what that is supposed to mean.

Guess I haven't been a mainstay in the Box Office threads for years.

What part was confusing? People's home countries/towns being put down? Slayven ensuring that he continues to mention Alpha Flight more than the rest of GAF combined? The few posts of Box Office sprinkled in?

Wait, what's the tracking for IT this weekend?

somewhere in the mid fifties?

If it hits 60 at all we're pretty much guaranteed 300mil domestic, right?

As it is, it's kinda likely-ish, isn't it?

I wonder why she's interested in that role of all things. That was one 90s comic series that I didn't read, even though my teenage self was all about similar series over at Image.

Yes, yes, and yes.

I think it will be interesting to see how the rest of Hollywood interprets the success of IT in regards to September releases, "me too" approaches to the tone of IT, etc.

Good assessment. I still need to watch TFA

Star Wars has always been propped up by nostalgia, the films was never that amazing, especially in the writing.

Oh god, that is not good. I might lose my bet now. D:

I'm confused as to how IT isn't going to gross massively over Conjuring 2/Annabelle internationally, when it's going to demolish it domestically?

I'd have thought $300m was a shoe in for IT abroad :(

It hasn't released in as many countries. It'll pass them all comfortably.

So $600m WW is still a go?

I think so. Using Annabelle: Creation as a gauge, it's made $187.5M internationally in six weekends/weeks. IT has made $96.4M in just its first weekend. In the countries that Annabelle: Creation opened in but It hasn't, the former made $58M of it's total.

So backing those out It will pass A:C's accumulated like for like international take in two weeks. Toss in the territories It hasn't opened in, and $300M might be doable. This weekend's hold will probably tell us for sure.

Yeah I noticed it hasn't opened in Mexico yet where Annabell and Conjuring 2 got around $20m. It seems hard to get info on these markets, BoxOfficeMojo still has opening weekend numbers for IT.

Still. $1B franchise here we come! Took Conjuring Universe 4 films lol
