Don't agree at all. I really like keeping track of versions for smaller apps, and for developers it can be helpful for users to know what version they're on. Apple shouldn't be designing for FB and Google's practices, because that's a race to the bottom.
It's not just FB and Google, though. A lot of the bigger developers do that crap. For example the Uber app is at version 3.261.4, Snapchat is at 10.17.5.0, Pandora is 1708.2 etc. Like what does that shit even mean? Version numbers used to have significance (and still do for smaller devs), but these days more often than not it's just an arbitrary number.
I don't feel too strongly about this one way or the other, just pointing out why I think Apple removed it from the updates screen - because it's meaningless clutter much of the time. It's mostly used for support purposes, and for that use case, it's still listed prominently on the app page.
