I'm glad it's back to. It's the only site I visit daily. Was looking at eurogamer and noticed an article about gran turismo being uk number 1 and instantly thought of the pal thread. I wanted to know how much it may have sold and so on but there isn't a site with all this information in one place that I can find easily.
Despite all the crap going on I still love this place as a gaming community

I have been on this site from 2013 and can't believe the part I always loved the off topic forum is dead now.

No matter what happened or happens, the community was not rotten and the arguments from people outside who were previously banned, often for being assholes, don't make any sense to me.
It feels like revenge of the sanctimonious previously banned: everyone with a grudge is jumping in pretending there was always something wrong with the community itself.
They offer no sensible argument for their sweeping statements instead referring to "people banned just for saying they hate something" or "opinions should be protected as they are free speech" or the "hive mind".
Gaf was not perfect but there isn't a better community outside at anything approaching the same size.
The site makes a lot of enemies by being hard to join and banning people without giving second chances, and some of those people instead of looking at their own actions, wait for some opportunity to get even because getting a new account to become a resident troll isn't easy, Now is their opportunity.
I hope that there is always a large active gaming forum here or online elsewhere that continues to moderate exactly as gaf has always moderated. Because it is the key. Reddit, twitter, Facebook etc let alone "voat" do not have the key, (unless the key is to allow awful people to dominate discussions and scare away intelligence). Long live gaf style moderation, whether it is here or on a new domain.

Man what happened to this place. Everyone asking to be banned, statements, just pure chaos... I hope the allegations aren't true and that this site can recover from the disaster. It has been the only forum I frequent after I left GameFAQS.
Luckily if people are keen on shitting up the site they cannot spam with new accounts very easily, so it will die down.

All things aside, I can't even imagine having all of this stuff lost: all of the OTs, useful game tips, conversations, developement information, custom soundtracks like G.A.M.E, post your setup threads, pick up posts, etc.
All of that was one of a kind and is unlikely to be replaced anytime soon....
If the site doesn't make it, I at least hope everything is archived. Even if you hate it, this place is undeniably a big chunk of gaming history.

I sure hope all the account suiciders saying posting on GAF is akin to sympathizing with sexual assaulters practice what they preach, aka:
1. NEVER purchase, watch, stream, or otherwise consume any movies or TV shows written, produced, directed, or otherwise handled by ANY writer/director/producer/actor accused of sexual misconduct.
2. NEVER purchase, watch, stream, or otherwise consume any content related to college or professional sports (due to numerous claims or sexual misconduct so pervasive that it is unlikely any team or program is entirely innocent).
3. NEVER puurchase products from, or interact with any company who has an owner with allegations of any sort of misconduct (that would be a LOT of major companies globally).
Those three are off the top of my head. There are far more.

The pleas by some people that other people MUST leave the site sound increasingly shrill. I Imagine they are trying to ddos or find any other angle as well.

I have no place else to be. When the forum went down the worst elements of gaming, hordes of gators and white supremacists, emerged out of every nook and cranny of the internet to dance on our grave. It made me realize what a treasure gaf really is. I just hope things can go back to normal eventually.
All the other gaming forums I've been too are either really shallow or full of trolls. This place is far from perfect, but it had standards. I don't think there's anything else like that out there.

That's the point. It was simple. I don't think there are many of those out there. The layouts on most of the others I've been to are insanely convoluted.

Whoever looked at other Gaming forums after this closed down, just to find a place to have meaningful discussion, would quickly realize that nothing compares to this place. Because it took up so much of my browsing time, you really begin to take for granted how nice it's been to have a well moderated place to discuss games.
I can't believe that people threw out places like 4chan for video game discussion. Besides how disorganized and unfocused the discussions were, it was filled to the absolute brim with trolls. I can't believe people would dare make the comparison that this place would ever become a sliver of what that is. It would close down if it got to 1% of the junk you find elsewhere.

Unfortunately, that's not actually true. When you consume a product by an otherwise reprehensible person, they don't get to tell how to feel about it or in what terms to express it. Neogaf's moderation rules have been irregular at times for no apparent reason other than it suiting the owner at that time. The good ones were great, but the lack of 'receipts' and otherwise lack of being able to even discuss odd behavior by said individual are were things get weird.
You can consume the product, talk about certain aspects of it, and then proceed to completely destroy its creators. You can't do that on a message board, if it is not permitted.
There is a difference between watching a product by a known offender (of something) after it's been revealed and the person having been shamed for it, and being an accomplice to a cover-up for what you know is wrong, with the offender being convinced he doesn't have to change a damn thing. That's the reason the mods bailed, all of them, as far as we know.
And the lack of acknowledgement, the burned brand, and the good people already having moved, is why a lot of us are moving too. If you can live with being a willing accomplice, that's up to you.

I disagree entirely. I found the moderation in the site to be nonexistant, with them only stepping in when things would get really derailed in some threads. Otherwise they all signed into modbot and would just close threads. The site is very self policing, though that can be seen as good and bad. I could've gone my entire time here not ever knowing who Evilore even is, and I still don't give a shit. Step down, don't step down, I don't care, no other site even compares to this place as a aggregate. Where was I supposed to go for my anime/manga discussion that's not filled with giant avatars and signatures and funny colours? I honestly don't even know where I would go to discuss video games, the main sites like IGN and...I don't know of any others are cesspools(and thats putting it lightly). The sheer volume of users here meant there was always someone to talk to about something. Unless this site truly disappears within the next few weeks in terms of the community I love, I'm sticking around because I don't care what the invisible server owner was accused of doing. This is a totally different medium compared to something like a director that is a rapist or something and watching his movie after the fact. Yea man I'm totally an accomplice ROFL call the cops dude I'm sure they'll love to nab me.

I agree with the politics, but it really bothers me when people go to an insane degree to police them. Guess what, most of those movies/tv shows you go to watch are filled with terrible people that profit off of them.
At the end of the day you have to look at the big picture. I think keeping this forum alive and the community together outweighs any of the bad.

I'm so glad GAF is back. I looked into some alternatives, but none of them had what I want from a site like GAF does. Even when it was down, I habitually clicked the GAF link every time I pulled up my phone.
