Battlefield V projected to be the great AAA flop of 2018

In a massive reversal of the franchise's recent sales trajectory, Battlefield V is projected to lag far behind the other major holiday releases. The report suggests it could be a "meaningful risk factor" for EA.

Analyst predicts EA's 'Battlefield V' will be a 'serious disappointment,' says preorders lag 'Call of Duty' by more than 85%

The analyst said preorders for "Battlefield V" are tracking more than 85 percent behind "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4," which is substantially worse than previous instances. "Battlefield 3" and "Battlefield 4" titles lagged "Call of Duty" by about 20 percent to 40 percent and "Battlefield 1" actually tracked ahead of "Call of Duty" at this point before launch.

"This is very far off the tracking levels of previous Battlefield titles in 2011, 2013, and 2016," he said. "With a release date directly in between CoD and RDR, we worry that BFV could be headed for a similar fate as 2016's Titanfall 2, which got squeezed out by its launch date directly between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare."

The analyst said the 13 million to 14 million unit sales, which he estimates is factored into EA's guidance for the title, is not looking achievable.

"This suggests a meaningful risk factor to EA's FY19 guidance," he said.

I'm a Premier subscriber, so I'm getting it regardless. I hope it's good. If it is, I think it'll draw players. I do think the choice of Ms. Hook to be the CoverGirl was a mistake, though.

It's marketing team doesn't seem to have much faith in this, and i haven't forgotten how that C&C mobile game abortion got more attention than BF:V's little trailer they quietly slid under the proverbial door.

I don't get EA and Activision actions. EA
reveals BF5 the worst way possible then is surprised by the low pre order numbers. Activision announces a trilogy where only the 1st game is on the disc and then delays because of the backlash to include the 3 games.
Is it a requirement to NOT have a brain to work in decision making positions in these companies?
Or are they constantly testing the waters to see what they can get away with?

I am buying it. Too bad people can't see past the reveal trailer, and the same thing happened to CoD Infinite. It looks like a much improved BF 1 which to me, is great. It also has a BR mode in it and this is the one game dev I thought could make an amazing BR game. We'll see. Maybe I'll play the 10 hour EA access and then decide, but Dice, at the very least, always delivers a pretty enjoyable experience.

If they are anything like the company I work for, 90% of people in management positions have no idea what they are doing and survive on their ability to bullshit with a smile on their face

It will do just fine, people like to talk a lot of crap about EA but when it comes to it they will line up in stores day one! Why else would EA be doing better year over year?

The marketing team needs to be fired, the reveal was bad, everything about the marketing was poorly put together and the political sjw agenda is just ridiculous. Pandering to people who have no intention to buy your game is not how you do things in this industry.

Problem is, it looks slot like Battlefield 1. When we saw the trailer my GF was like "is this an expansion for Battlefield 1?"

If DICE would give me a grounded WW2 experience, I would definitely pick it up. But not this shit. BO4 and RDR2 will keep me happy in october.

God damn SJWs forcing politics down everyone's throats!

I don't want no women in Battlefield, I am not making this political because I'm right and everybody else is wrong!!

Battlefield 2 came out in 2005 and that to me is still the greatest BF ever made. It kept the sandbox sensation, the wacky physics and impossible stunts. It had a wonderful squad systems and great maps.

To me, BF3 and BF4 was to COD'ified and I think its a major shame they took the games in that direction. BF1 had no interest to me. What is the point in making an immersive WW1 game that was set in a war about slow trench warfare? It was a completely pointless experience that made a mockery out of how that war was fought.

This looks okay to me, but I just don't see why I'd bother. They are going to fragment the community, fuck over people with their business practices.

I really don't think I got my value out of getting BF1 + season pass early last time, partly because of me not playing it as much as I expected but didn't they also drop the price for that incredibly quickly? I can wait this time, I don't see enough difference to rush in.

Honestly, I miss the bad company 2 days, I enjoyed that more than the recent iterations. I loved destroying the field to take away enemy advantages

Honestly, the contemporary FPS is so generic and boring, I really don't understand why someone would pay $60 for some WW2 game when Fortnite and Quake Champions are basically free.

Fortnite probably has way more appeal to different audiences than some laughably generic WW2 shit too.

There is nothing wrong with having women in a Battlefield game, but showing them as bionic rambos is not the right way to include them in the game. They really needed to tone that aspect down for the reveal.

How possible is it that origin access is heavily skewing these numbers? There is no reason to preorder if you plan on getting it on PC

Well, it will be discounted then. At least there's that.

Exactly. I'll wait for it to go on sale within a year for more than half off if not more. I just bought Battlefield 1 Revolution(all the DLC and Premium included) for $9 on the Xbox marketplace for my Xbox One X.
Nine dollars. The game is phenomenal and I didn't mind one bit double dipping at that insane mark down for all that content and it just recently received the full 4k patch for the X.

Battlefield V hasn't shown me much different from 1 really so I can wait.

Those two games have nothing on BF.

You want 64 players, vehicles, destruction, large scale conflict thats BF. Also not to mention the best graphics and sound in the business.

Now I will agree that a game like Fortnite (and PUBG) are stealing BF (and even COD) customers. BR games are whats popular now and BF/COD style games aren't. Its why you don't see a million COD/BF clones anymore and its all BR clones. Right now BF style game isn't what the main stream want. Its BR/Survival style games. H1Z1 has 12 million downloads on PS4, and apperantly thats one of the crappier BR games.

Its tough to compete when the other game is free and people only have so much gaming time. You can invest 60$, or try Fortnite for free. I can see why many are making that choice.

honestly nobody wants another BF game. They are always the same and they are getting worse. They have never offered anything new and the last good one was bad company 2.

I'm not worried just because the hype machine hit a speed bump. Then 2nd trailer shows that they're already back on the right track.

Did they really backtrack on that? That's awesome.
There is a rumor that the devs nagged Activision to delay the release to include the 3 games, that and the public reaction seemed to work. There will be a day one patch anyway (and probably big, I'm sure the games are in the disc in a "just playable" state.).

You know what's funny? That would totally fly in a bad company 3. Remember? That game that had smiley faces as the grenade pin?

Yup, they wouldn't have been that out of place there. Instead they decided to make a game set in WW2 and misrepresent the conflict.

Or just have the women be men amirite?

Women don't get the benefit of doubt. That's the problem. I doubt anyone here legit hates women but instead of rolling with it (like everyone would have if it the women were men) people cry about misrepresentation of the conflict.

I want it, that's more than I can say about half of the other regular franchises. BF1 was a great shooter.

I'm like you but I feel like we are a minority. I don't have issues with a woman. But a soldier with a bionic arm being a sniper during Second World War looks weird. It feels like they are adding a lot of customization so they can sell a lot of micro transactions.

But this kind of complaint is ignored and reduced to "you don't like the game because you are sexist" ;(

The problem for me is that it doesnt look different enough from BF1 for me to feel the need to buy it right away. I actually was very uninterested in BF1 till I did a free 5 day trial. I was convinced to buy the game right after that since I was hooked. Then they eventually gave all of the DLC map packs free. Plus the failure that was Battlefront 2 and their behavior lately. EA loves dropping pricing when things seem somewhat dicey... even if it is a month after release. Time to just wait.

I have played Battlefield 4 more in the last week than I have played all of BF1 and I have played every game they have made. I am not hyped for this at all and with some other single player games I'm looking forward to this fall I'm holding out on this one too.

I wish they had just made BFBC3, Heres hoping for next year.

Well if folks are going to critically judge an entire game based on a trailer, sucks to be them honestly.

At this rate, at least BFBC3 could be nextgen lol.
