This Place Pretty Cozy Now

Darkmakaimura

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Neogaf sure has changed.... for the better.

Looks like people are able to speak their minds without fear of retribution.

The traffic is a lot less than it used to be, though, but on the other hand it feels a lot more cozy here.

I'm digging it.

That's the intent, glad you like it and thanks for supporting the site. The traffic is steadily improving, too, and at a healthy pace where we can keep the good community vibes intact as we rebound.

Glad you can see it. Traffic is less than before sure but more efficient and it's growing day by day. I'd take GAF today than GAF from two years ago and more because it was a shithole basically. You can also tell that the majority knows each other

I'd also like to thank you for being a gold member because it supports the site

Posting/traffic is less is probably due to the improvements in the forum where people can click on the various "Like" and no need to actually post something. I would hope that even though traffic is less, engagement is higher because of the improvements.

Members engages in almost every thread with good discussions. Even with the reaction system. I might enter a thread wanting to post something but there's someone else that did it for me. So, I'll hit him with a like because i agree or that's basicallt what i wanted to say

In terms of activity, we've gone from 500 posts per day in January 2018 to 4,000 posts and 5,000 reactions per day now. We've also steadily climbed in visit duration from 2 minutes to nearly 5 minutes now (vs 15 minutes at our height). That's an epic improvement in such a brief time frame, especially considering how most forums are dead or dying. Because our activity levels before the Great Tantrum were so high, of course, it's comparatively "slow" but I'm not concerned as our trajectory is headed in the right direction and quality of discussions is high and with a great community atmosphere.

Oof

Yikes

^Those were the kinds of posts driving much of the traffic before. They have been replaced by the reaction system, so effective traffic is much higher than raw post count indicates.

I actually used to be part of the group that would attack Neogaf and complain how it was run while assuming everything bad that happened was the owners fault until 2017 happened. Starting from that point I saw it transform back to how it was beforethe years of decay.

I know that 2017 caused false allegations to spread, and caused many developers and staff in employed industry to avoid posting on gaming forums, but I think in the long run the split was the best thing that could have happened to this site. Once they added the new coat of paint changing the old site design, we really were in for a fresh start.

Remember when 46 people in a row would just type a period after a post they agreed with? And how a thread would be created and get to page 2 in 7 minutes?

What I like now is that even the most annoying members (to me) aren't on an ignore list. There's no need because there's no ruleset in place that says I have to eat their shit anymore.

Do you ever regret the old Email rules for registration or do you think it was useful for the time? I know you guys recently changed it so every email works, which has helped a lot for the sites activity imo.

I lurked here forever but never really posted till the split. Really love this place now and feel comfortable enough to post and engage in conversations.

This forum is the best its been during my membership which has been a minute. I think when leadership has a clear tone about what they're trying to do people respond to that, new or old members. 👍

I'll take quality over quantity any day thanks.

The way I see it, we had a bunch of crazy loud nutjobs who were running around screaming outrage this and cancel that, and then they all suddenly threw a massive collective tantrum and left.
And now that we have some peace and quiet, we can actually hear one another and have proper conversations.

quality of life improvements and competent web master really helps.
also allowing to speak your mind with out getting banned for duration pending.
even with differing opinions people engage in a discussion and go about their days.

I like it a lot. I'm not very familiar with what went down years ago. I just know I like to talk about video games, read what others have to say, learn something new and have fun along the way.

I feel like traffic has picked up quite nicely recently. Also, this place is better than it has been in years. I finally signed up after lurking for 20 years.
Yeah I'm an old-timer here. I think this is my 11th or 12th anniversary this month but iirc I was here before that even but with a different account I can't even remember anymore.

It really does feel like the screaming children tuckered themselves out and fell asleep so now the adults can talk to each other in peace.

It was the best option I had back in the day to give value and scarcity to free accounts, which helped with user accountability (no pun intended). It did its job. We have many other tools and systems available now though so it's an outmoded idea I was happy to leave behind.

GAF is my daily visit both at home and at work, it's been that way for 10+ years now, the difference is that I'm posting a lot more comparatively (it takes a while for me to be comfortable online).

So yes, I agree that it's a cozier and more open space than before. Still my favorite online community!

SO fucking cozy. I love it. There was too much bloat and shovelware before.

Though id love an uptick in game release and discounts/sales threads. Even if its just one thread to aggregate each month. SO much flys under my radar these days, before I used to be well aware.

I feel so, too. So far, it has been pretty good here. People here seem to be cool. You can have discusions with them, have fun with them. Dare I say it, but in the last couple of weeks, I could feel a glimpse of old legendary GAF around here.

If you read the Ban tab, the only time someone gets banned (aside from spammers and account suicide people) are people who go hardcore with personal insults, console warring, extreme discriminatory views etc....

On a scale of 1-10, it's like you got to be an 8 to get a warning, and a 9-10 to actually get banned.

On Reeeeee, post a few messages that are a 2/10 on the scale and you warned. A 3/10 is a temp ban. And anything that resembles a 4/10 is a perma ban.If it's a thread involving gender issues, decrease each of the above a full point as sensitivity exponentially increases. lol

On this site, you can have whatever view you want, just don't be an ass about it. Of course, if it's something disgusting like you upload animal sex pics or something stupid that will be immediate reprimand.

I was aware of the drama after years of reading the forum, but did not take it too seriously; it just went over me at some point. Then I suddenly decided to sign up and I think the forum is great, with many different people and voices being allowed to voice their opinion on matters. If your intention is not to annoy others, I think the place is as good as it can get when it comes to video games (and the rest)...

Banned for forum whining and disruption, previous history of severe infraction. 5 years.

I got permabanned a few years before resetera was a thing on gaf in a thread that said all game villains where dark skinned for saying it was ridiculous. Some of the mods back then were the worst kind of people. Glad I came back.

lol i had an account here from back in the day like between 2007 and 2012 is when I frequented here. I started posting again here this summer I missed most neogaf activity for like 7 years including internet/social media activity I stayed off the internet for a long time. interesting hearing about this resetera episode neogaf went through like neogaf was attacked by thanos and his henchmen and many users were killed off

Welcome to Mos Eisley

This place is definitely more enjoyable now. The people here for the most part seem somewhat normal where the "other place" is kinda like the twilight zone now. That place will implode from within eventually at the pace they're going.

Since GAF has distanced itself from Resetera to a degree it's a lot better, and if we need another purge so be it because this forum has had more success in the past two years than the previous 13.

I've been a member for about 7 years, but I've only posted regularly in the past year. I think the place is great. Back in the old days, it was so crowded, you couldn't have a discussion. Posts flew by so fast, any comment you made was buried pages deep in a matter of hours. Lots of low-effort, one-liner posts. Lots of clutter and noise. The SJW mods didn't help, although it took me a while to catch on to how toxic and repressive that stuff is.

Anyhow, GAF is great now. You can have discussions. You can recognize individual people and begin to learn their personalities and posting styles. There is free speech, with reasonable limits. You can say what you think, even if it's not politically correct, even if it might hurt someone else's fee fees, and even if everyone else thinks you're an ass. It creates a free-wheeling, easy going atmosphere, just like a game forum should have. It's got a good diversity of opinion. It has a wide range of topics being discussed, with a lot of different perspectives. I like that it has a lot of people who've abandoned Reeee. Those are my people.

I'm also really pleased that it's rebounding so nicely. Good to hear about those stats and the trajectory. It's nice to be a part of a forum that is growing in such a positive direction. Congrats to all who hung in there and helped out.

just came from era bout a month ago and sweet titty fuckin jesus is it sooooo much better
