Regarding franchises you loved and followed from start but became tired off, which was the breaking point?

I used to love Mario on NES and Gameboy. but I stopped caring about the franchise with Super Mario World and never bothered with Mario. I didnt have a SNES but even later with emulation I did not like that game and Yoshi's Island that much.

Loved also NES Zeldas and tried playing Link to the Past via emulation years ago and stopped when I transported to the other world and reached the first palace there. As for 3D Zeldas, I never was interested and only dabbled for a few minutes

As for Metal Gear, I played the NES game (never finished it), loved Metal Gear 2 on the MSX via emulation, but was never interested as much playing the Solid series. Skipped MGS1,2 not having a PS1 but watched a full playthrough by my friend of MGS3. He played MGS4 before dropping it. He played MGS5 but I never bothered with the series again.

Loved the NES and GB Castlevania games, though I skipped CV2 because I did not get a chance to buy it because we did could only buy a specific number of games. Also loved CV4 and Rondo of Blood via emulation. But SOTN was never a game I was interested that much, though I tried playing it via Bleem, but PC was slow and pirated CD stopped working. Much later I finished Order of Ecclesia, but it was the first and last Metroidvania I liked. Do not have the interest to play another similar game, one reason I stopped playing Bloodstained after being stuck.

When it comes to Doom, I played Doom 1 and 2 on DOS. Tried playing DOOM3 but dropped it, game had not what I liked in DOOM. Never bothered again with the franchise.

Loved NES Metroid and also finished the GBA game and played SNES Metroid (never finished it). But I was not interested in Metroid Prime or Metroid ever since.

Also loved Mortal Kombat 1 and 2. Skipped 3 but played 4. MK 9 raised my interest in the series, but MKX made me lose it again and I stopped bothering with MK11.

Same with SF5. It will probably be my last Street Fighter. But I may continue with new GG and KOF

Loved Resident Evil 1 and 2, skipped 3 and Code Veronica because my PC had become obsolete and did not have a console, watched through RE4, finished RE5 but this was the last game I invested to RE. Got RE6,7 and RE1 and 2 Remake but interest is not as great as back in the 90s.

Pokemon with Sun & Moon.

X&Y was alright because of the novelty, and ORAS was alright because it was a remake of an actually-good pokemon.

Sun & Moon had neither the novelty nor the pedigree. That was when all of the ever-growing flaws of the series became apparent to me. The games are becoming easier and they are removing any and all challenge, the models and animations are rigid and uninteresting, fun things like the Game Corner and the Battle Frontier were removed, they keep adding more and more gimmicks like Mega Evolutions, Z-moves, and Dynamaxing, many of the new pokemon are either overdesigned or unimaginative, the games keep focusing on bland uninteresting stories full of unskippable cutscenes that contain basically no animation, and so on.

I only own Pokémon Sword as a gift from my brother. I had no plans to buy or own it. I’ve played about 2 hours or so and it just hasn’t hooked me.

These games just aren’t for me anymore.

Resident evil 4 killed my love for the franchise. Switching zombies for this infected bullshit and the more action oriented path was my breaking point.

Cod AW. Putting weapons in loot boxes and don't give them to map pack/season pass owners was fucked up.

Atelier series... Never cared before Rorona but I gave a try and enjoyed, then Totori was announced and I bought the collectors edition, after came Meruru and again got the CE.... Then they announced a new saga with Ayesha... I was kinda burnt-out so I got the normal edition... Finished with sacrifice and they announced Escha to Logy... I decided to wait for a discount and I bought it on Psn... Played 20 minutes and quitted, after that I never looked back.

All games are basically the same and Gust releases every single year a new game... So yeah... I am out! Same thing with Neptunia series... Bought the first three and I quitted.

I was really in to Assassin's Creed up until Brotherhood when they basically announced they were trying to make it a yearly release game like COD. I liked 1 and 2, but after playing Brotherhood I realised I really didn't need to play one every year.

I still later played AC3, then took a long break and played AC4, them an even longer break and skipped everything till Origins.

I was almost done with Resident Evil after RE6, but the series has sinced "redeemed" itself with RE7 and REmake 2, and to a lesser extent Revelations 2.

I guess I dropped COD pretty early too. I was super in to the first Modern Warfare and World at War, but after that it just got too monotonous.

I also dropped Battlefield after BF1. I felt BF1 was a bit of a step down from BC2-4, so I wasn't as hype for whatever followed. Then what followed was yet another WW2 game right on the heels of CODWW2. The WW2 setting got me less than jazzed, but then the self rightious PR move to shame anyone who pointed out the historical innacuracies of a British Woman with a bionic arm fighting on the front lines as sexism didn't help either.

I gave the beta a shot anyways but I didn't really find anything about it interesting enough to play it over one of the older games.

Assassin's Creed. Played 1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, 3...tried Black Flag for about two hours and gave up. I think the overall premise hooked me with the first game and then I just liked Ezio.

RDR2 made me not want to pick up a Rockstar game again. Fight Night Champion and FIFA 12 made me not want to buy an EA game again. MGSV made me like the whole series a lot less. I was tired of GTA games after SA. There have been other series that I stopped buying games from, but nothing that caused ill feelings like the above mentioned. Oh, Mario Party 6 killed the series for me.

Pokemon.
Used to be there day 1 with every entry but over time the lack of a true evolution of the formula as well as all the many small annoyances that never got improved just made me lose interest. Last one I bought was X/Y which was OK but nothing special. Didn't bother with the other 2 that released on 3DS.
Had my fingers crossed that the Switch release would finally be the one that forces them to do something on a different scale...... but nope it's basically and HD 3DS game.

Fire Emblem.
Can't say I was a fan since the beginning but I enjoyed several of the games over the years. But Three Houses quickly had me go from hype about a Switch Fire Emblem to disappointment. I don't really like the direction the franchise has gone and how big of a focus all the activities outside of combat have taken. I liked the franchise best when it was mostly about the turn based combat with some brief but fun interactions with your crew in between fights, now it seems like classes and conversations and running around school doing side activities is half the game. I sort of wish they'd just made it a side franchise and still made a few "core" entries even if they are less frequent (sort of like Persona and Shin Megami Tensei).
Also the art direction has gone from retro anime to modern anime to weeb anime and now it's just ....ugly anime

Not from the start but I got into Final Fantasy with VII and and quit around X. It was around this time that they started misusing the IP and announcing/releasing FF games by the bucket. I lost interest after that. Also FF's style of exaggerated anime fantasy doesn't appeal to me anymore.

I gotta say I wasn't a fan of AC2 to begin with but one particular mission turned me off the game entirely.

I'm talking about the mission where you need to free some thieves from their cage and escort them back to the starting point. So basically a form of fetch quest, which is fine...

Until I realized there were two more cages of thieves spread out, meaning I had to repeat the same boring process two more times for the mission to be over. What utter disrespect for a player's time.

I didn't buy the latest Tomb Raider game, and I've followed the franchise from the start (I even played the infamously awful Angel Of Darkness back in 2003).

It just didn't look like Shadow Of The Tomb Raider was going to provide anything new after Tomb Raider (2013 reboot) and Rise Of The Tomb Raider except story... and I must admit I find 'new' realistic Lara a little boring compared to the quippy 'Jane Bond' vintage Lara.

Although Uncharted has stolen some of its thunder I do still really enjoy the Tomb Raider series and will be really keen to see a next gen iteration. But maybe 'realistic' out-of-her-depth Lara has had her day, time to reboot the reboot?

Assassins Creed, once they started pushing hard after they struck gold with 2. I bought Brotherhood, and then cooled off until AC4 as a launch PS4 title, probably would have skipped otherwise. It just started to feel like a churn after 2 came out.

I don't stick with a lot of franchises, even if I love them. I guess it is in part because I don't mind replaying games that I enjoy, and my desire to play a good game is stronger than my desire to complete the storyline or play an entire series. Shelving or selling a mediocre game shouldn't be as big of a deal as gamers make it out to be.

Resident Evil...the straw that broke the camel's back was probably RE6...but I was pretty meh on RE5 too. I've even come to lovehate RE4. As good as it is (and it is fucking amazing) it set the series on the path that eventually led to its downfall.
MGS4 was decent but I fell off the series after that. It peaked with MGS3 and nothing since has come close.
Devil May Cry starts at 1, ends at 3, with nothing in between.
Dead Space 1 and 2 were incredible but I've still never touched DS3. Don't need to. Fuck EA.
He played MGS5 but I never bothered with the series again.
Nor did Konami.

Fallout 2 to 3: turning the game from a isometric turn based strategy game to an action centric FPS ruined all interest I had previously in the franchise, which has lasted to this day.

Silent Hunter IV to V: too much problems that I care to elaborate on here. Ubi ruined a great sim by going the casual route.

MGS 2: when Kojima began to go batshit insane.

I have largely stopped playing the ubigame in all its various guises (AC/Watchdogs & Farcry) I can't say they're bad games, but unfortunately despite their overall competence, the narrative hooks just aren't there for me for some reason.

There's too many for me to mention; I think I have grown tired of a lot of franchises, and I think a lot of companies rely too much on the established ones - there is no risk, no innovation. Sometimes I tried desperately to glorify a new entry in a thoroughly milked-out franchise, say The Legend of Zelda, because I didn't like to admit that the series' high point was decades ago for me. I think I don't even care about a vast majority of video games coming out these days...the real excitement died out years ago. I don't allow a brand name, or the attempts to cash-in on nostalgia to hold power over me anymore. If there are solid attempts, I'd commend them, otherwise they won't get my attention.

Pokemon. Played first generation, than gold. After those, i lost my interest completely. I stucked with first generation pokemons so i didn't like newer ones. And bored from same gameplay going on for decades.

Assassins Creed. Played 1 and 2(full Ezio stuff). Bought 4 but didn't play it because i never get used to being a pirate in a AC game but will give that and AC: Odyssey a chance. I think they should change this series name and move on.

Prince Of Persia. Played PS2 trilogy? and it was above God of War for me. My memories of wall running and time reverse still fresh. Didn't like colorful new reboot or Forgotten Sands so i dropped it at the same time with Ubisoft. Such a shame for a great series.

Pro Evolution Soccer(PES). Matchmaking takes so long. If you are winning, opponent unplugs its internet cable and there is no punishment for that(zero ranking points for both sides). You can't buy a player you want, it has to be random. Gameplay great but i can't play it offline anymore so these things put me off, i don't even want to try it for free.

Football Manager. It got too complicated and harder for me. I just want to transfer Messi to my local team and win Champions League thats all. But i can't anymore. Didn't bother after 2011.

Sony's walking movie simulator type games. I thought uncharted 2 was soo cool after playing and seeing, then U3 and U4 just felt gave me the meh feeling. That's probably why I'm not too crazy for the last of us part 2.

I don't know i tend to return to series i was burned out on and enjoy them again (Assassin's Creed for example)
But right now i'm super done with Yakuza/2D indie Metroidvania clones.

Madden for me. I owned everyone from 1995 on the Sega Genesis to 2017 on the Xbox One. Haven't bought the last 3 and have no desire to play it anymore.

CatLady

Selfishly plays on Xbox Purr-ies X
Borderlands, they are all pretty much the same and get boring & repititous after a while. Didn't buy 3 and don't intend to in the future.

Gears of War . 1,2,3 were great and had a blast with them . Once that story arc was done I was done as well . Didnt play Judgement , bought 4 for like $15 but didnt play past a couple of hours. I tried 5 on Game Pass and it reminded me of the original 3 games, which is a good thing , but not enough .

Mortal Kombat, after Deadly alliance. It took until MKX to get back my interest. I used to be obsessed with the series when i was younger. MK11 has been a blast playing through.

Same. By the time the one in ancient Greece rolled around I no longer had any enthusiasm left. I feel like each release failed to iterate enough to make me continue paying attention to the franchise.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
This one pisses me off and it will piss everyone off.

Breath of the Wild. I am still playing it on Cemu, but so far I am not enjoying the shitty horse controls, stamina, and holy fuck do I hate the weapon durability.

Maybe Zelda has passed me by.

But I aint giving up that easy.

Rockman X.....the 5th game was a letdown after 4. Then 6 came along and when I played that:

Miserable piece of poorly designed garbage. I did try 7 and 8 at a friend's house when they came along. What a fucking shame. Ah well, still love 1 through 4 and the classic Rockman games.

Sun & Moon were the first bad Pokemon games. Real bad. Horribly bad. Damaged my interest in the series.

- Tomb Raider 3...even though there was another 2 sequels on the same console, that was when I had enough. Especially that first "jungle" level looked like dog shit.
- Twisted Metal 4... didnt even know what I was playing anymore.
- Need For Speed Pro Street... jesus...
- Mortal Kombat Armageddon... mosh posh of shit on top of shit. Luckily they were smart to pause for a moment and recalibrate.

Halo ended at Reach.
Sadly i cant argue with this. While i may prefer the the general gameplay of 4 over reach, reach was already the climax of the franchise. Then MCC broke at launch, halo 5 happened and finally halo wars 2 came and went with practically no traction.

hell honestly with MCC being fixed i find myself playing reach and 3 the most of the series.

assassins creed: played ac2, brotherhood, and revelations and couldn't get enough, then when 3 came out it was a glitchy mess that had very dumbed down free running controls.

cod: loved 4 and modern warfare 2, but after a while i realized it was the same game that they just reskinned every year and sold at a prrmium.

Far Cry
I loved the franchise as long as it was innovative.
Played the fuck out of the first one (2004), played many hours of the second one (Afrika) on my 360, but stopped half way through Far Cry 3, because I was tired of climbing towers and sweeping outposts. All in all the gamedesign wasn't my beloved Far Cry anymore but funny enough it became the blueprint what everybody thinks of, if someone mentions Far Cry today.
But after many years of absence I somehow am interested in played FC5, but i haven't been able to bring myself.

Assassin's Creed
Somehow pretty similar story to this franchise. Liked ACI, loved ACII but never finished it because of a corrupt savegame on my 360 near the end.
I bought III for the PS3 but disliked the characters and scenario and stopped playing pretty soon. The AC formular became boring to me when I played BlagFlag. Last AC I played was unity because the Ps4 had no games but I wanted to play something at that time, but it wasn't worth my time and money.

Battlefield
Battlefield was huge.
We played the fuck out of 1942 back in the early 2000s on Lan parties, later BF Vietnam with it's awesome soundtrack and atmosphere. When BF2 dropped I even bought a new graphics card for the game and later when I got internet, me and my buddy skipped school for playing BF2 all day long. Never played 2142 except for the demo. Later we continued to play Project Reality, an awesome, if not the most awesome, modification for BF2 (which now became the standalone game Squad ).
With BF3 for me and my friends a new era of onlinegaming begun, at least we thought that, this game was just jawdropping. Hundreds of hours played until BF4 released but this felt like BF3.5 but more unoptimised. With this game I lost interest in the series and didn't play Hardline or BfV and probably never will play a BF again. Gameplaywise it just became too much IMO. There is no tactical gameplay no more, just choas and way too many and wastable vehicles. For me there are better alternatives like Squad, Arma or Rising Storm.

Tony Hawk
Not much to tell about this series.
Spent my childhood / youth with 1,2 a little bit of 3 and Underground 1, with Underground 2 it became a goofy mess and then Skate was released.

CoD
CoD, United Offensive, CoD2, CoD Modern Warfare and CoD Black Ops where just great games. With MW2 they lost me, because more of the same and now I'm not interested in the series anymore. I played the new modern warfare alpha, it was fun but I have the feeling, that I've seen everything and don't need the game. For the campaign I borrowed the disc from a friend and played like an hour, but when I wanted to continue the next day there were server issues and I even couldn't play the singleplayercampaign no more. I tried a few times and I felt it to be unnecessary, that the game won't just let me play the campaign, that I said fuck it and uninstalled the game. I guess that was CoD for me as well.

Resident Evil - Never played past Code Veronica (didn't finish it).
Assassin's Creed - Never played past AC3.
Final Fantasy - Never completed XII. Haven't played any Final Fantasy since. That's likely to change in the near future.
Call of Duty - Haven't played any since Ghosts.
Need for Speed - Lost interest after Most Wanted (2005).
Street Fighter - Never played IV and V.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey: live service with pointless guests with objectives kilometers/miles away from each other to make you waste time.

Tekken/Soul Calibur: switching from individual endings to a meh story mode trying to copy Mortal Kombat.

Final Fantasy 13/15: Basically westernizing

Various other games going open world/live service: Dinasty Warriors comes to mind but that are many others.

Pokemon Sun e Moon: stagnation
