And they want me to go into work tomorrow...

Midtown manhattan... in a giant building that 100% has cases of it everywhere. From the international parties thrown on 70th floor or from everyone in there anyway.

I'm thankful I've been alright so far... but work was suspended for two days already. I guess we're considered "essential business." I have my reservations on that being true...

I've blocked out the news a bit .... the woman would encourage me to go to work cuz that's what men do and all that shit but... she's sent me on suicide missions before...

I listened to Cuomo's press conference. Sounds like you guys have it BAD there. Way worse than Chicago. Have my brother (well childhood friend...but basically my brother) in the city doing plumbing. He says a lot of his coworkers are out sick with fever. Not a good thing.

No one wants to frame it that way because the media oversimplifies everything and that would naturally get turned into "Trudeau cares more about the economy than lives." I stopped watching his press briefings, he's the stereotypical politician that's very adept at avoiding tough questions and using a lot of words to say nothing. You learn more listening to the various premiers.

  • FDA approval for an indication means that it can only be marketed for that particular indication (ie. Bayer can't claim hydroxychloroquine is effective against COVID-19 because it has not been tested for COVID-19, only Malaria)
  • The buck stops with the doctor for off label use which is the case with COVID-19 - they can do this generally with any drug on the market
  • Very first human clinical trial for treatment of new indications with existing drugs go through phase I in many cases - this is with a healthy population to demonstrate safety
  • Search of clinicaltrials.gov indicate 1368 healthy volunteers have been dosed with Chloroquine or some cocktail containing chloroquine over the course of 24 different clinical trials...some dosing going up to 1000mg
This does not include the multitude of Phase 2 - 4 clinical trials that have also been carried out.

Basically, human use formulation of Chloroquine has been extensively studied for independent and drug cocktail use. It's not some experimental medication that has a shoddy safety history that's being administered.

man you kidding me? I'm about to ask for a lay off and hopefully a good lay-off so I can get unemployment and keep my benefits and cruise this shit out.

I kinda need to make a choice now... otherwise I'm doing the whole gloves and mask thing tomorrow. Done that already... it's maddening. Then you got to undress in the fucking garage and toss your shit in a bag. Driving in is your only option and for some fucking reason you still can't park anywhere. To then risk your car being contaminated by the driver in the parking garage who gives no fucks anyway. Then let's not forget that the streets are the land of the living dead with only homeless... shit is fucking crazy.

I don't have enough drugs to think about this right now ...

So how many cases do you guys think we really have : 10x, 100x, or 1000x the official worldwide count? Given how the governments are reacting, 1000x wouldn't surprise me.

My city declared calamity state a few hours ago. We've only had 2 confirmed cases so far though, no idea why they did that... maybe they have a lot of confirmed cases to reveal?

It kinda feels like Trump wants to take the Chinese approach - just go back to "normal" and let whatever percentage of the population die because losing 2% of the world sounds better than shutting it down and facing such long-term economic issues.

I can see the.. I don't know, truth? in both approaches.

Shutting everything down, locking people in their houses/etc will 100% stop the spread of the virus, as it will burn itself out.

However, does the US have the ability to just shut down the whole country like that without causing worse casualties due to the economic/social/etc fallout from such a shutdown? Our population isn't China, and isn't going to bend over and take it (even if it's in their own good).

I don't know, there isn't an easy answer.

I think(or hope) he's just flexing his muscles but doesn't plan on going through with it. I think he knows or at least his advisors would tell him if there's one way to cost himself the election, this is it.
 
We are leading the charge here in NJ!

But it looks like North Jersey mostly, aka: NYC suburbs/commuters.

Down here in South Jersey my county had about 10 cases and the county next to me maybe 14.

Things are pretty much business as usual. I work for a DoD contractor so I'm working. Roads are full of cars.
I went to Walmart on Sat and got some food. Sunday went to Home Depot and the pet store.
I ate a bunch of shitty food Saturday night and woke up at 3am sick to my stomach. Thought I had the Shanghai Shivers...but just had to take a massive shit.

My guess would be a max of 10-20x in places with honest reports. 100-1000% more would put the overall case fatality rate way too low to bother with the policies being implemented. 100x would put it between 2-4 times worse than the flu (CFR of 0.2-0.4) . 1000x would make it make it significantly less dangerous than the flu (CFR of 0.02-0.04).

There's no controversy - some folks decided to ignore the (likely) label "Not for human consumption" and took it. The only issue is a bunch of people on this thread don't believe in personal accountability and responsibility and are looking for someone else to blame because "orange man bad"

For the people bitching about this - tell me right now the amount of tylenol you can take before you get sick without looking at a label or googling it. Also tell me how many pills YOU can take before reaching that amount. Point I try to make is, there are labels and directions for a reason. If you ignore those labels and directions, then the problem is you, not a public official that told you to take tylenol.

Edit: if there was no label (which I highly doubt), then there's some blame to go around.

So i am watching the conference and what the media says is like bizaroo world on what Trump and his team actually says. Do people actually listen to them talk or just make things up?

Welp I guess everyone is going to twist Trumps words saying he is going to drag people from their homes and force them back to work.
