It has everything to do with marketing and headlines. PS5 would take the backseat in headlines currently in the US. Sony doesn't want that so that is why they are rescheduling.

This delay was unnecessary. They could've easily done the event on the 4th, and had a brief moment in the middle to address the George Floyd death and protests, declare their support for justice and peaceful protests, and then carried on with the show. Even have a moment of silence for the victim while at it.

Crazy to think they would delay the entire event though, I mean it's not being held at a live venue so there's no risk in that regard. They weren't even probably gonna stream it, or if they were, still upload videos, right? I mean c'mon.
