440 dollar production cost, both manufacturers made money on consoles 6 months into this generation, something that historically took a console 1-2 years to do. No one said it'll be cheap, but for what you get it'll be worth it but that 599.99 USD is ingrained into people's memories, even those who weren't around still find memes and it comes up in discussion to this about how not to price consoles.

Minimum wage is going up, when I was a kid my average 2 week take home was something like 425, kids now are taking in 800+ minimum in most places they can still hold out a couple paychecks and pay for a console, making sure teenagers can still put a console within reach with their jobs and Sony can still find a great inbetween of those who .


I don't see ANYTHING less than 449.99 if they're being generous, but 499.99 is a safe bet.
