The Messenger

Ok, I bought this and it is great. I mean, REALLY great! But, I must suck as I keep dying. It is my fault but it is so frustrating. What are your all thoughts on the game? I'm really pretty early but I wanted to throw the controllers at the TV. (could be the crappy dog-ear controller).

EDIT ***playing on Switch docked and undocked****

One of my favorite games this gen. Absolutely phenomenal sound track. Gameplay is so smooth and satisfying.

The humor is actually really well written and funny.

Don't skimp on the free DLC pack. It's short but so so good. Amazing final boss.

I actually backed their next game on Kickstarter.

One of my favorite games this gen. Soundtrack is killer, and I absolutely love the idea of swapping between 8bit and 16bit.

You should keep an eye on the prequel that's currently in development. Although it plays completely different as it's inspired by Chrono Trigger.

It's a frustrating game but it has a lot of charm to it too, admittedly I'm shit at it however I intend to get back to it I once I've finished Ghosts, Control DLC and Battletoads.

Axiom Verge is another I feel like this about, can't finish it because I'm shit but recognise it's quality.

That demo for backers is coming out soon. Pumped.

I would conceive as many off spring as possible with The Messenger if I could

Totally tickled that retro indie itch, and was playfully well aware too

Talk to the shop keeper a lot, trust me

Randomly tried this on Gamepass and ended up loving it. I'm usually not big on Metroidvanias but this one really surprised me. The music is just incredible too. All around fantastic experience.

That JRPG homage looks solid. I'm dying for a new one of those with some actual meat on the bones a la the golden era.

From everything I've heard, these guys might be the devs to do it.

Definitely my favorite game of the gen. Glad to see more people digging it. The dialogue is so outstanding, and the gameplay is just the right level of difficult. The game's far from easy, but when you get your patterns down, it never seems unfair.

And the soundtrack. Just.....goddammit the soundtrack. Probably my favorite OST to date.

It's like a 6/10 game. Fun at first, but woefully inconsistent. Except for the soundtrack, which is consistently awful. One step short of Crazy Bus music.

It looks interesting, and I'm definitely interested after playing The Messenger. But I really hope that one day these developers do realize that SNES had more RPG's than Chrono Trigger
It's supposed to be a prequel to The Messenger IIRC

Chrono Trigger kind of fits the motif in a RPG that'll likely have heavy elements of time travel

Really can't understand, with all the great masterpieces this generation, someone puts this game at the number one.... And i'm saying this in a nicest way possible, don't want to be a "graphics whore" or something like that.... Did you play other games this gen?
I mean, i simply adore Slay the Spire but i cant put it in front of, lets say, God of War....

Im with you there. I am actually not a huge fan of CT, I know I know don't shoot me, but I will try anything this dev puts out to check out their spin and writing.

Fun Factor > Polygons and Triangles.

You had one job...

With that i agree.... I was more thinking about that metroidvania gameplay we've seen too many times vs all the inovative games we have out there.... But, like i said, i respect peoples choices, dont mean to be rude.....

I cant think of game that starts out 8BIt and is linear, goes to a new art style in 16 bit roots, then turns into a metroidvania, besides The Messenger.

Man this game is something. I must've picked it up in some Steam bundle and didn't know what it was, but saw it as Steam Deck verified so installed it on a whim. It's really really good. I hate how so many games that go for this retro aesthetic make them stupidly hard. This game is challenging but doesn't break your balls either. I got to the part where everything changes and I'm kinda lost but this is a legit gem.
