It feels like every aspect of the XSX and then this abomination was determined by keeping things as cheap as possible. The XSX is just a black rectangle covering a bunch of shoved-together parts with a big circular fan.

I bet the fan grill is black because whoever they bought it from could give them millions of them for a good price and they weren't about to re-paint the things.

Makes zero sense. The disc version is only there as a stop gap to give nostalgic individuals the pseudo-feeling of ownership. You will have to install to the SSD regardless of what version you buy.

Same CPU as the big boys. Same SSD. Same architecture. This is a 1080p30fps box vs the 4K60FPS that the PS5 and Series X are. They're not setting the floor low.

That's just music to my ears if it were true. But more likely that it won't happen at launch, where the cost of build is at the high end. But I can see a 1.65 TB digital version PS5 within two years, especially around when the true, Next-gen exclusives start to roll out in all of its glory.

No one is concern trolling its a legit question WHO IS IT TARGETING no one is gonna say well let's just get the s or the ps5 esp if the ps5 digital is lets say 399 4 tf vs 9 like get real this thing makes zero sense. Its nothing but a gamepass machine and its just gonna confuse the casuals the ones ms is desperately trying to get. It didn't work for Nintendo it won't work for ms. Its as simple as that.

How you addressing what I said by asking me that question? It doesn't change what they are attempting to do. It is a low entry next-gen console with specs that reflect that - you get what you pay for that kind of thing. It is what it is. Don't drift away from what I have been saying.

As for what I actually think about this strategy? It doesn't make sense to me to offer a console that is lower spec compared to your actual next gen console at a price that could drive people away from getting your high spec console (yes, it opens them to upgrade later, I get that.) There is so many ways this can play out - in favor of Microsoft or the opposite. We shall see.

It's targeting people that want a next gen console......pretty simple. I've got a 4K tv in my media room and a 1080p one in the living room, one with a One X and one with a One. I'll replace them with a Series X and Series S respectively because 4K and 1080p.

This forum has a thread about how you're going to save up for the expensive next gen consoles. Do you think maybe those people will like a $299 next gen console vs a $499-$599 one?

Shame it doesn't come with a disc drive. The price makes it really interesting to me as Xbox is my secondary console, but the fact that is digital only means it will be very difficult to resell it once I'm done with it (everyone still goes physical with games here in my country).

I think Sony will cover that with future digital only users. But I think its kind of a smart strategy, and def I see many users going for the DE if thats the case.

honestly the new feature is probably just to roll up Gold with it. They'll still keep Gold around though for those stubborn folks who claim they "don't want Gamepass" (you laugh but I know people like this.)

Since this small boy will be so much cheaper, this means the very vast majority of xbox consoles will be this 4TF smallboy.

Most developer will only target one main xbox target and one main ps5 target. They will develop and target all their games at this smallboy and then maybe have a patch that offers higher resolution / framerate for bigboy.
Just like current gen. All games are developed for the mass volume product. At best the powerful big brother gets a patch.

So, all games for next gen will now be developed to target 4TF as base and then people with real consoles get maybe a framerate or resolution patch? but still has a game with assets, ai and business logic targetting a 4TF system.
A very sad day.

Well, Gold is already included in Gamepass Ultimate. If Gold is going to be included on all Gamepass tiers, then price of Ultimate should go down, or something new should be added, I guess.

Lol you have no idea. The series S has the same CPU, GPU architecture, RAM setup, and SSD as the Series X. It's a 1080p machine to the Series Xs 4K. It won't hold anything back.

Please stop this stupid argument. GPU scales easily. CPU and storage does not. Series S will have the same Zen 2 CPU and SSD powered by XVA. That's like saying the RTX 3070 will hold back the 3090.

Its all about pricing. Every other consumer electronic device under the sun is price slotted. This is incredibly smart and will outsell the Series X.

That the vast majority of games on the Series X will run at 4K/30. Not 60. Making it a 4K/30 console, not a 4K/60 one.

Again no one is gonna jump in to NEXT GEN and buy just the weakest version its confusing again its that simple its gonna do more harm then good and if the digital version of the ps5 is remotely sniffing around the same price its fucking over before it starts for the s

Already confirmed by SONY themselves that the only difference between the two is the disc drive and obviously price. Not hard drive space.
 
For me,
Looks in this decreasing order :
1. Xbox Series X
2. PS5 Digital Edition
3. Series S
4. PS5 Disc

Value for money in this decreasing order :
1. Xbox Series S @ 250$
2. PS5 Disc @ 500$
3. Ps5 Digital @400$
4. Xbox Series X @500$
 
I thought Sony was gonna win the ugliest console award for sure next gen, but it seems like Microsoft had a dark horse in the race all along.

Indeed. Exponential growth like that is something to be jealous of. Unless you're Sony, I suppose. It seems they have enough growth problems to worry about with that tumor design on the flagship product.
 
$299 is fair for what you are getting in the box but this also makes it impossible for the Series X to be anything less than $499

Edit: Looks like they leaked the $499 price for the Series X too, both are prices many of us predicted and more than fair for what you get.
