agree, the PS5DE seems a last ditch addition to price it right, possibly the BOM going too high.

Makes no sense to mess up your output volume with how PS5DE is to be made

The disc drive itself doesn't but I'm surprised you don't understand the REASON why it would be $399 and $499, especially in a time where digital software has continuesly outsold physical.

They make a lot more money from software sales on a digital console so they can bring the initial cost lower.
 
Just when I thought I was out because of the 3080, they pull me back in. Insane price and nice convenient form factor for transport. BOUGHT

Most developer will only target one main xbox target and one main ps5 target. They will develop and target all their games at this smallboy and then maybe have a patch that offers higher resolution / framerate for bigboy.
Just like current gen. All games are developed for the mass volume product. At best the powerful big brother gets a patch.

So, all games for next gen will now be developed to target 4TF as base and then people with real consoles get maybe a framerate or resolution patch? but still has a game with assets, ai and business logic targetting a 4TF system.

All PC games are targetting my 980M on my laptop as a base... even though devs have admitted that they target the high end and scale down to run on concoles, you can keep your broken logic
 
Crap I missed it. I thought it was similar size to SeX but white with the big disc on it.

I didn't realize it was a fraction of the size too. Nice.

And again, 4 teraflops targeting 1080p have a greater perfomance than 10-12 targeting 4K.

MS has put more power into the Series S GPU than what actually needed. Ironically, in some regards could actually be that the PS5 and the Series X hold back the Series S and leave it with so much underutilized power.
 
Way to go raising the next gen baseline. I guess it's irrelevant to a company simply after an install base without interest in furthering gaming tech.

That controller looks hideous. The lack of color (Aside from the face buttons) makes it look like it's made entirely out of candy or some shit. it needs the usual black analogs/dpad.

What the hell were they thinking with the black grill?

These things are going to explode because everybody is going to try and hide the vent next to a wall, blocking airflow.

Really hope this things fails and fails badly.

I want to see ZERO support from developers for this.

"We decided not to support the Series S as 4TF compromised our vision for our game" is what I want to see happen over and over.

When you see this small thin console sitting next to the ginormous PS5 it will look sexy af. I'm getting both but PS5 is a lot uglier when you consider it's bulbous size.

the reason would be to encourage people to buy digital over physical which has a greater margin. But as you point out, digital is ALREADY outselling physical (and growing) so they don't need to slash the price to incentivize that behavior.

this looks just like an xbox one s but with black grill. So it looks fine to me. (It atleast looks better than the SX)

the ps5 however looks like playskool mock-up

How do you know whats going on inside? Also, its probably the traditional design lime the one series. One X died for this rebrand.

Well yeah, that is the reason, that's what I implied. Even if digital is outselling physical, the goal is to bring in even more profits and what better way to do it then to introduce a console at a super enticing price point. Surely a $50 difference won't entice people to go all digital when they can just spend $50 to get one that does that AND have a disc drive. This is why I see it being $399 and $499 (PS5)
