Not really a fan of them due to not being a big first person guy, have to say if they build a library for Xbox/PC then long term it could be a superb purchase in attracting more to their eco system.

Just seems like these purchases should have happened like 3 years before a new console launch because their launch lineup is bare as hell right now.

Between all the teasers and stuff like this I'm mostly thinking that the XSX will be an awesome console in like...2-3 years.

There is no way in hell they make Bethesda games exclusive to just Xbox, especially when the PS5 will dominate the Xbox. They will miss too much revenue, and Microsoft is not that dumb enough to pull that exclusive shit. Besides, Minecraft is still on the PS4.

Minecraft was a different animal and those were different times. It worked out well for them and made them an enormous amount of money just on merchandising alone.

However, this is a brand new generation and they have a mindshare battle to win here so i don't think they will be so generous this time around.

Also, i guess this is why they decided not to buy WB Games? Or maybe they are next... haha (nah)

Xbox could do very well this gen, cheap entry level price point, and if their games release only on Xbox/PC, then they might have a stronger first party than Sony.

Given Microsoft's 'release on everything' plan and Bethesda's 'port to everything' plan, I think the odds are strong that the titles will release on all platforms. The focus seems to be on providing big name titles to sell Gamepass.

Yea Doom eternal a step down.....

This is gonna be huge if they decide to not port the games on Sony hardware.
I'm triggered for what you said about Doom Eternal guys, especialy when you said it was a step down, I will complain and call you out on twitter be careful :messenger_beaming:.

But in all seriousness without talking about Doom Eternal. That's sucks badly for everyone... Maybe no for PC gamer (by the way come join us Sony fanboy) but it's sucks, some beloved franchise are not accessible anymore for a large portion of players, I don't see why TES VI will be available on PS5 now..
Good move for Microsoft, but bad for us.

For the Sony fans asking: buying new first party studios to increase your first party lineup is different than buying timed exclusivity on third party games.

How else were they expected to fight Sony on their level? Fight fire with fire.

Unless, you know, they change their mind and decide not to play nice. Shocking, I know, considering how nice MS has been throughout the years.

We actually see different strategies at work:
  • MS buys big studios with a lot of IPs and established big development teams,
  • Sony buys a lot of small studios and give them new IPs and train them to grow.
Let's not forget something fondamental: if you don't have talent, your IPs will suck ass. We have seen that with Halo Infinite, we have seen it with TLOU2 (for different reasons of course, but I am trying to give a general idea of what I mean).
Except for Mojang, all their studios acquisitions until now were not something you will not call "big studios with a lot of IPs and established big development teams".

Starfield will be ready next year in all likelihood.

Good for MS I guess? It's funny but MS keeps buying devs that I just can't seem to care about.
Don't care for Doom, Fallout is garbage right now, the last good Elder Scrolls was a decade ago... it's an expensive gamble but a lot of people seem to enjoy these games so let's hope MS can find some synergy there and not turn them to dust with Gamepass games.

They dont have to make the games exclusive.
Customers have a choice, gamepass or pay $80 from the other guys.
Easy choice

Even if I always believe that a Microsoft aquisition is better than a Sony one since games will also be available on PC, I would not like this to become a war between these 2 console giants buying all third party studios.
I dissagree. IMO we absolutely need both MS and Sony to make exclusives. I want both these companies fighting tooth and nail for my hard earned money. The last thing I personally want is for MS to roll over and let Sony steam roll them, gimmie a hard fought war so both companies pump out the best games they can to try and gain our loyalty sounds like a great win IMO.

I want MS to give me a good reason to buy the Xbox series X and this is a great start.

Right before preorders go live....straight nuclear bomb dropped. In a way I'm pissed because watch me not be able to get a preorder just like with PS5. 😢

Wow, that's a megaton for a lot of people. I don't like any Bethesda IPs but that's still pretty damn big. Hopefully they're able to do some new and exciting shit.

Jesus. I guess when you can't get exclusives, you just buy the studios.

Interesting to hear the people who say exclusives are bad but this is good?

I am actually somewhat happy for competition sake, but thats true tho. Almost like its only bad If Sony keep their franchises exclusives made by their own studios

Yeah, lets acquire Zenimax/Bethesd and let them continue releasing titles for the competition instead of making them exclusive to our platform, it makes sense
