2. total software sales for each system, which system sells most software until jan 2021. If we don't figure out totals we can Wash this one

3. Company that comes out with the highest rated exclusive content on their platform between Sony and MS by jan 2021. All exclusive titles released still have their meta scores posted and the platform with the most higher rated games wins. Also we need to define exclusives bring on pc as well is not exclusive.

Bonus if second one doesn't work. First to 10 million global sales.

Well number 3 is obviously laughable and not even worthy of consideration.

Where are Gamepass subscriptions factored into this?
 
There will be exclusives, but I think for the most part they are going to be released on all platforms. I think the intent of the move was because of crazy backlash on 343 Industries
 
At this point, I feel bad for that Axel Gneiting (the guy at id who made comments about scaling down..).
Looks like he didn't get the memo.... poor guy.
 
I will say that Sony's exclusive line up does look pretty safe and to be "more of the same".

However excited people may be for Horizon 2 or God of War 2, I doubt the hype is really going to be quite as high as they were for the first games. They'll sell well, but I don't think they're going to move systems in quite the same way.

Also God of War having a 2021 launch tells me it's very much going to be more of the same. A 3 year dev cycle potentially in the current AAA climate doesn't suggest it's going to be breaking new ground.

I don't think Sony are going to buy a Capcom or a Konami like some are saying, they rely too much on their gaming business being profitable in the presence to risk being in the red for an entire generation. Their strategy for the PS5 appears to be timed exclusives, exclusive third party content and releasing sequels/similar games to what worked with the PS4, I don't see that changing in the short term.

Theres little chance they offer these games on PS5. Ask yourself this... If Sony can afford to lose software sales to drive console sales, couldnt MS afford it? Thats the argument i keep seeing. That this would hurt software sales.
This whole purchase is to counter the "no games" argument. Putting the games on ps5 just puts them right back at square one.

Secondly, most PS fans say they won't buy an Xbox to play xbox games as they aren't true exclusives and they will just play them on pc. Well the other side of that is... they can still sell you the software without putting it on PS5 because you will buy it for pc.

I could maybe see gaas type franchises as it would allow MS to continue to make money after the initial sale. But no other types on PS5, maybe a few on switch.

They will get 7 hits if everyone of them is an absolute success, but I am not surprised you jump to conclusion when it comes to spinning for Playstation also those titles would be over the length of the generation, in which time GamePass will grow to anywhere from 25Mil to 30Mil subscribers.

Also Sony is not Nintendo stop trying to compare yourself to them, they are a completely different eco-system they don't really compete for the same audience that Sony and MS compete for. If Sony doesn't change soon it will end up like Blockbuster there aren't enough fools in Europe willing to spend €70+ on a single game when they can subscribe to GamePass for a whole year for 2 and a half PS5 games especially those in Easter Europe.

Crazy acquisition. I really hope they don't make future projects exclusive and lock everyone else out. They did the right thing with Minecraft and it payed off. Let's see how consumer friendly they are in the future. With this acquisition, Gamepass is almost a must now.
 
The takes I've been reading about online/serviced based titles staying multiplatform and anything SP focused being Xbox/PC only makes the most sense.

I imagine the caveat will be for those though that they have to be cross platform. Microsoft want the best experience for Game Pass subscribers and more players in those games is obviously going to be much better then having some dead game be exclusive.

I do think this may open up Pandora's box on videogame publisher and developer consolidation. Much like how the music industry went through it some time back and the movie industry is kinda going through it now. Isn't this the biggest VG acquisition ever?

Whether or not media giants like Disney, Comcast, Viacom start eyeing a publisher or two remains to be seen, but I think ATT will decide to stay in the game and Sony will start looking an acquisition or two. Other big publishers like EA and Activision may look to gobble up something as well. Nintendo will probably be BAU. It will be interesting to see how things play out.
 
Microsoft isn't playing around this console generation
even if you don't get a console from them, you can stream it from cell phone or tablet or do game pass for the PC.
I'm excited for this next-gen era even though the launch titles are lackluster

I don't this was extraordinary circumstances period. Microsoft is not buying other publishers. They had a console launch to save after the halo disaster. A bad start and they get steamrolled big time. Call it a hail Mary but it is what is a move to get people to pre order series consoles and sell gamepass subs. If Microsoft was out buying publishers like this while in good shape you would have a point.

Yes it has changed and the most recent X1 era was the most disastrous for MS gaming IP. They ran their biggest franchise into the ground and the most successful new IP a Microsoft first party created was Sea of Thieves. Gears is okay but it's just more of the same with nothing creatively interesting. Forza (Motorsport and Horizon) are exactly the same story.

Sony in the same time regarding highly successful new IP:
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Bloodborne
  • Spiderman
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • God of war reboot (meaningfully different to the OG so I think it's fair to count it)
Plus the sequels to existing IP were far better received than the Xbox equivalents (Uncharted + TLOU being prime examples).

Microsoft sucks at nurturing first parties and developing new IP. The most recent generation was the worst. My de facto assumption then is that the same mediocrity is going to spread to any new first party studios until evidence comes suggesting otherwise.
