PSP recommendations

Peace Walker
Syphon Filter games (I find them both to be better than most shooters on consoles as well)
Ys 7
Crisis Core
GOW: Ghost of Sparta
Jeanne D'Arc

That's just off the top of my head now

To be fair though the library got really good in these last couple of years.

I remember i wasnt interested at all in getting one by 07/08

Same here. I think all the love really started for me around the time Crisis Core came out. Prior to that I just owned it for CFW. Nowadays it seems like its my most played system, but those first few years I would have never imagined it would have the library it does today.

... people always bitch and complain about PSP games "DURR THIS SHOULD'VE BEEN ON A CONSOLE" but Half Minute Hero is ONE game where it plays perfectly for the handheld it was created for.

Z.H.P.: Unlosing Ranger VS. Darkdeath Evilman is one that hasn't been mentioned yet. Rouge-Like and Disgaea collide!

The gameplay can be a little grindy, but for an NIS title its very brisk, and the humor is great.

I know I should suggest other things but Tactics Ogre PSP is the greatest handheld game of all time. I can't think clearly enough to suggest anything else.

I find the SRPG genre to work so well on a handheld device that pauses instantly in a sleep state (vs the big screen on a console).

I can't wait for SRPGs to use touch interfaces with the NGP, will really bring some life in the genre.

I am sure most of the good PSP games have been mentioned, however I recommend PSOne classics from the PSN Store. PS1 games look great on the PSP screen. If you haven't played some of those great PS1 Classics like the Final Fantasy games, Xenogears, Suikoden, Crash Bandicoot, Rayman, Castlevania SotN, Alundra, Vagrant Story, Wild Arms, Grandia and etc. I find PS1 games much more meatier and they just seem to have higher presentation and production in comparison to PSP games even though the PS1 games are much older.

I have heard Nippon Ichi is working on an NGP game, but it's probably just a port of one of the PS3 Disgaea games

Tactics Ogre is a great RTS fantasy game, if you like Final Fantasy Tactics (which is also available on PSP)

That's TBS(RT means real-time, TB means turn-based).

If dungeons are what bothers you about RPGs, play Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.

FFFFFFFFU man, you're making want to burn the cash I have in my PSN wallet that I was saving for Final Fantasy Dissida 2...

What makes Tactics Ogre so great? I loved the FF Tactics battle system/combat, but I thought the story was a confusing pile of horse shit. Will I still like Tactics?

I don't know about immersive, but I really enjoy Patchwork Heroes and Super Stardust Portable (although it kills your thumb).

The most important thing about the new Tactics Ogre is what it does differently from the original. Instead of leveling up one character you level up entire classes so if your Cleric is level 5 and you recruit another Cleric, he/she is level 5. No more throwing rocks at Denam!

What makes Tactics Ogre so much better than FFT is that the story isn't a confusing pile of shit, and you actually have a good time replaying tough as nails battles. Even those ones that last an hour.

While i agree on Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. I gotta say it's not the same since my friends psp broke. Also i dont have a PS3 to do ad-hoc online.

As a single player game its still fun an addictive but it just isnt the same experience. It also gets insanely difficult.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Best PSP game EVAR.

Followed by Hot Shots Tennis, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, LocoRoco 2 and LocoRoco: Midnight Carnival, I liked Ys: The Oath of Felghana a lot and am playing through Ys 7 now. Persona 3 Portable is good fun as is Z.H.P.

LittleBigPlanet is really good, especially if you haven't played the PS3 game.

The Wipeout games are great. Motorstorm: Arctic Storm is really well done as well, as it plays very much like its PS3 counterparts.

Came here to basically post this.

This game is amazing. I'm not even playing games on my home consoles right now.

So you think it's better than Mother 3?

Wow I need to get this.

Yes.

Is there any way to buy and download PSP games online with a Mac? Last I heard Media Go isn't compatible... is PSN my only option here? I wanna buy Tactics Ogre somehow to play on the Go :(

Sorry, Sony hates Macs. You'll have to either download directly from the PSP or use a PS3 if you have one.

Fuuuu- looks like I'll be downloading directly then. Gonna have to spend a week downloading Tactics Ogre from WiFi :/ Oh well, thanks for the info.

Do you own a PS3? If so you can download it on that, and transfer it over to the PSP.

Yes, I do own a PS3 and recently this is what I used to download games onto the Go. I've since moved to another location and the PSN connection is very slow here. I can play games online usually, but accessing the PSN store is a lost cause. It'll load up maybe one or two ads at the storefront. Everything else loads up very slowly, I can only imagine that downloading will be nightmarish.

I moved to Hell.
Its kind of funny because Xbox Live runs flawlessly here. I use wired for both. Only took me a couple hours to download a 1.6GB demo just today. Actually I think I'm going to try messing with the network settings some more to see if I can get it working faster.

I'm surprised I haven't heard much about the Syphon Filter games given how much they've been suggested in this thread. I'll have to check them out. Could someone elaborate on what makes them so great?

So since we have a PSP recommended thread open. Anyone have a take on Cladun or No Heroes Allowed? I was looking for something quirky off of PSN and these both looked interesting.

skip chains of olympus and go straight to ghost of sparta. i havent played ghost but chains is pretty blah, i can only assume ghost is better.

also try out patapon before you buy. its a cult hit but i found it to be too repetitive.

both are great games if you're into quirky games

I always thought it was pretty straight forward. I was confused with TO at first until I got used to the regional divisions.
