I am a health care worker so I can take the vaccine now. But I am not in the high risk group at all - young, good BMI, and healthy. So don't want to take up the spot of whom actually needs it.

But, at the same time I don't want to be the one spreading virus to anyone! I work around a lot of vulnerable people so it's best if I got vaccinated.

But then like video games I don't care to play them day 1 as it's always best to wait for improvement and playability patches to come out later. The vaccine has been rushed out so who knows what side effects and what if it turns people into zombie? Maybe wait and see?

My first reaction is no, wait and see. The short and long term side effects are anyone's guess at this point. Especially if you're not in the 'at risk' group.

But since you are a health care worker and probably do have regular contact with people that are in the 'at risk' group, it might be better if you do. In this case I probably would take it myself. But this is one of the only cases I would make an exception for.

Really depends on if you think the potential side effects are worth potentially protecting those you come in contact with.

How's that for a non-answer answer?

Also a healthcare worker and getting mine next week. Anything I can do to protect the oldies!

If you're a healthcare worker, you have to take it. PERIOD.

Now, If I have to choose, I'd take the "Moderna" vaccine simply because it doesn't require special storage and transport conditions, so the risk of getting an injection full of nothing (because of mishandling or poor transport conditions) is nonexistant.
 
I will be waiting for a while, but I'm pretty sure that I had rona in late Oct so I think I'm already resistant to it. In your case being around sickness so much, I probably would.
 
I work in a Hospital myself. We got bumped to near the front because of how we move all over the campus. About half of us got it. The other half is waiting and seeing. I've got some other health issues that I don't really want to upset at the moment as I have been fine lately. So I passed on it. The others have had soreness, fevers etc but haven't turned into a zombie yet. So far so good. But I can tell you, I heard people in certain positions saying they won't take it. So I'm kinda leaning with them at the moment.
 
Yes, you should take it if you are a healthcare worker. The odds of you dying are low if you are young and healthy, but you could be one of the few who get a heart infection and get fucked for months. And you could one of the even fewer who get fucked forever.
 
you're more likely to catch it because of your line of work so might be a good idea to get it.

its extremely unlikely you'd die from covid but you could get other issues like lung damage or lose your sense of taste. only reservation is the side effects from the vaccine which seem to be inline with other vaccines so it's probably fine.
 
Definitely wait and see since you're young and healthy. The WHO doesn't even know if they'll protect you from infection anyway.

Like almost everything else, the mainstream media has distorted the truth. The experts they rely on are unopposed because those different points of view are suppressed/mischaracterized, there is no collective agreement on the dangers of this virus despite what they may say.
 
You are a healthcare worker - Take it.

It does not mean you can't still infect others, but atleast you are immune for a good while.

Being a healthcare worker, this should be an obvious decision.

As with any other new technology, avoid being an early adopter if you can.

Edit: because I just know someone is going to be pedantic about this – I mean mRNA tech specifically.

Health care worker here. Ended up getting the Moderna shot on monday. Just a sore arm.

Only reaction ive heads of locally was a CT tech who got a fever the night after.
First shipment about 600 pfiser and ran out.
Second shipment came last friday from moderna of 2k for our hospital.

I probably would of waited longer to get the shot if it were not for the new strain being here. Just to see more data on mrna tech.

There is no evidence of the vaccine preventing the new strain. I just felt like i needed to do more to protect my family.

Your first statement was that you're a health care worker. Getting the vaccine is the right thing to do. There's plenty to go around for the most vulnerable groups.
 
I'm in the same position. I applied for the vaccine and was approved today. Not sure whether or not I'll actually do it.

People are lobbying to go first. Even when it gets rolled out at healthcare facilities, lots of the management staff that aren't ever seeing patients all lined up and got it immediately, and there was not enough to get everyone.

If you don't want it, don't get it. There's about 320 million other people willing to take your place.
 
We don't know if the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine can stop transmission. All we know at the moment is that this vaccine is very effective in preventing Covid-19 disease; it's about 95% effective / able to prevent Covid-19 disease. No vaccine is 100% effective. You might experience fever, chills, muscle aches within the first 24 hrs

There's a lot we don't know, but if you're high risk, it might be worth considering. Although I'm highly skeptical of vaccines and especially one that has been made in only ten months when this process takes 1-2 decades, I am considering getting the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The only thing that's truly holding me back, is my irrational fear that there's something in it that could make the immune system go haywire even though it's only a vaccine

I think it's also important to consider Pfizer's criminal activity in the past. It's worth looking into, but despite all that I still think the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine might be worth looking into. Maybe not selecting right away, but worth considering and researching

Not entirely sure, this is all brainstorming. I'll probably wait a bit longer and see what the data on that vaccine will tell us in the months to come. But I'm trying to figure out by February if it's worth taking a vaccine just in case. I've had some pretty intense bouts with viruses in the past 4 years so I also wonder if my memory T-cells would kick in to help with fighting the SARS-CoV-2 virus in my body if I were to contract it. I'm pretty sure I've had some exposure to at least a few serious coronaviruses over the past four years, maybe even SARS so maybe my body can handle this new one? I can recall at least four times where I was battling some kind of tough virus so hopefully Covid-19 is not that much tougher and it's not going to cause significant damage. It's difficult to judge where this virus stands among the rest that we all are exposed to each flu season. There's information coming from all sides so it's tough to say with certainty how one might handle the SARS-CoV-2 virus
 
Meh, I passed on the vaccine and just got covid instead.

They say folks who got the vaccine can't donate convalescent plasma because they don't know if the antibodies produced would be effective compared to the natural antibodies made by the infected.

They say folks who did have covid should still get the vaccine because they don't know if the antibodies made by natural infection are effective.

WTF? Does anyone know anything?

It seems pointless to vaccinate young otherwise healthy folk if all it does is reduce their serious complication rate from 1-3% to 1-2% but they can still transmit an infection (but have an even greater chance of being asymptomatic while doing so and thus not realizing they are infectious) but not vaccinate old people who have a 10% death rate from covid and we know the vaccine can reduce that by 90%.

I've not seen any proposal that a room full of vaccinated (and/or previously infected) people can ignore social distancing, travel with impunity, and take off their masks. I've not seen any proposal that says you should NOT get covid tested if you had the vaccine and then develop the low level generic symptoms associated with the cold/flu/covid. Are we going to lower the sensitivity level of the PCR tests down to 30 cycles or so to reduce the positive rate as well?

Seems to me that no one really knows if the vaccine will change anything, no behavior changes are forthcoming, and it is just gonna be pandemic life forever.
 
I'm a healthcare worker. i was hesitant about getting it but i've made my mind up i definitely want it.

Do a bit of reading (not social media!) on how it was made and you'll realise it's not a conspiracy. the work on it didn't just start in 2020. it's been in development since 2005 after the 2002-2004 SARS outbreak which is also caused by a coronavirus. SARS is "SARS-CoV-1" and COVID-19 is "SARS-CoV-2".

When COVID-19 started to fuck shit up all they really had to do was finish off the work and do safety trials. With modern tech it's not so crazy to get it out this quick.

Katalin Kariko is the biochemist who worked on it all those years ago. You should read about her. She has also taken the vaccine.
 
That depends on a person. If I'd be unhealthy / older / working in a hospital and therefore at high risk of experiencing serious syptoms I'd go for it, but since I'm not I see no rush and I'll wait a few months.

Yes.

The smart thing to do is tell everyone you know to take it. You however shouldn't. Just observe the situation for 6 months to a year and then take it if it's 100% safe. I am not an anti vaxxer, If the government forces me to take it, I won't object. But if it's not mandatory, I will wait.

I am still in my late 20s and very fit though so the mileage may vary. If you are a fat slob who eats cheetos by the boatload, you should probably take it.
 
Just take the vaccines and tell us which superpowers you got.

Just dont end up being the "Bells Palsy Man"

Even better if you are about to make some kids.... take it and then get pregnant. I want to know how it looks like in 9 months,
