Series X still $600 in Canada. Even with the god awful exchange rate closing in on 1.40x, it's still only 20% more than the US price. The system should be around $675 using a 1.35x rate. PS5 is $650 here as Sony hiked up the price already (that uses a 1.30x rate).

Anymore than £10.99 a month isn't going to keep me subscribed. No doubt it's a great service for some but outside of Halo infinite and a few hours of Forza Horizon 5, I can't say I've played too much of whatever else is there. I usually play an hour of something and drop it.

At least we've been able to establish the fact that people defending Sony triggers you but others doing the same for Microsoft doesn't seem to bother you one iota.
So in essence, Sony fans were at fault when Sony increased their prices and Sony fans are again at fault when Microsoft have increased their prices. It's an interesting one. The actual discourse seems to be going right over your head for whatever reason.

Sony doesnt bother me, PS2 is probably my fave console of all time. I also like Xbox though, and i know some act like thats a crime around here but it isnt. In that thread about Sony raising prices, people were attacking MS over it, even attacking them for NOT raising prices. And thats how it always is on here, Sony does soemthing bad, attack Microsoft, Microsoft does something bad, attack Microsoft.
GHG just try to understand how tiresome it gets. People jumped on me in this thread just because i said i was surprised they hadnt already raised Gamepass prices when you compate it to other services, and how it will still be good value even IF they do raise the prices.
Problem is you get a set of people that are so frothing at the mouth over a few Phil quotes, that shit like this happens in threads

Because the goal is to increase the number of subscribers, not lower it.
Raising the cost of the subscription a little (which today can be considered "cheap") while increasing the quantity and quality of the catalog is better to achieve that goal.

The price of Gamepass is linked to the price of the games as well. The number of first party releases and the cost of these will be higher.
Before this global economic situation, everyone already assumed that Gamepass would go up in price at some point.
My bet is that both games and Gamepass will go up in price. I think the hardware will not go up because it would not be advantageous and the forecast is more than to reduce its price (XSS).

It all depends on the value of what is offered. Balance between catalog and price. Today Gamepass is considered "cheap", when the next AAA first party and possibly the entire Activision catalog begin to be added, the value of what is offered will attract new subscribers more than a "small" increase in the price of the subscription.

Xbox is a very seasonal brand, they sell the most during the holiday season and they don't want to kill their sales both hardware and subscriptions during this key period for them.
There's nothing to applaud, it's a business strategy to reach a goal.
They'll shift their priorities soon.

The statement "I do think at some point we'll have to raise the prices on certain things"is so vague, I'm not sure how you could make more of it than that. All I see is him avoiding making any definitive statements regarding the fluctuating currency rates, obviously there is a limit on what they would be willing to absorb, though it is obviously a higher limit than Sony's.
