Microsoft: The regulators aren't satisfied with a 10 year deal? Then how about... A 10 year deal!?

BTW, so funny that many around here are yieling "someone wants to think in fair competition!" but were completely fine with Sony, being the market leader, was blocking -an in many case still is- crossplatform multiplayer.

Cross platform multiplayer came about because xbox realised the playerbase for multiplatform games on their platform was getting increasingly small. They stood to benefit the most so created a dishonest PR campaign to make it look like anyone who didn't immediately kneel to their wishes was evil.

It was akin to a man sinking his own boat through self sabotage and incompetence and then begging passers by to throw him a lifebuoy.

Exactly. Don't recall MS budging an inch on cross platform play on 360 when PS3 and PC games were doing it

Pretty sure they are skipping 2023 for the first time.
Intially they were going to skip 2023, but recently they said another cod is coming in 2023. Do wonder if the change of mind has anything to do with not wanting to miss this year and taking a financial hit if the deal falls through, and potential step daddy ms won't be able to finance them missing a year. Last bit is just me putting on my tinfoil hat.

One have nothing to do with the other. What these mass layoffs have to do with unions now? Worth MS will be spending 1.2b on severance packages for those laid off.

Companies with unions do lay off people as well, you know that? That’s why I don’t see connection.

User I was replying suggested that high % of this 10k people were from Xbox division. I would like to see link to that breakdown. Or we have got another made stats from this user just to spread his made up agenda.
Then it would make it even less relevant asking what percentage was from xbox if it has nothing to do with unions.

Also wierd that you point out that the 10k layoffs are from different departments and ask for splits yet attribute $1.2B entirely to severance packages. The $1.2B charge to earnings was not all severance packages.

I vaguely remember this, but since I am not a COD player, I must have not cared enough to remember. Is there any more details on how they plan to do this? Google tells me there is still going to be a full COD in 2023 as of early this month, but it also shows me links confirming the above. Maybe they are just planning more reuse but still packaging it as an annual 70 dollar package.

My favorite game last gen was Sunset Overdrive.
So bad you were not so active when Sony bought Insomniac and make it a spiderman line of production factory.
By the way, in that case there were not 10, but 0 years of commitment of releasing games on other platforms.

I played Sunset Overdrive on PS to death - loved that game! 🙄

Sorry, did you actually have a point or are these false analogies all you have?

FF XVII will maybe come to Xbox while Elder Scroll 6 won't ever come outside of any MS' OS/Consoles.
lmao, so it’s epic and based when sony funds and develops spider-man, one of the biggest IP in the world, which has never been exclusive, but evil if MS does it with tes VI, when literally only one tes game has launched on PS day one

I know you are trying to be sarcastic, but they really don't know what they are doing. Otherwise, this would have been smooth sailing, wouldn't it?

Also, Brad Smith is the guy who compared Sony with Blockbuster (dead) and Microsoft/Xbox with Netflix (the killer of Blockbuster), which helped CMA establish that this acquisition is anti-competitive.

And Brad is also the guy that the CMA quoted twice -- and both instances damaged Microsoft's case.

The first statement threw out Microsoft's claim that this acquisition is primarily for King and the want to compete against Google and Apple. His second statement helped CMA discard Nintendo as a direct competitor, leaving only Sony as the affected party in the gaming console market. lol.

So, yeah, Brad really doesn't know what he is doing lol. That's why they are losing this case.
So if they win he should get all the credit right?

Not sure that deal of this size in any vertical would be smooth sailing for anyone. Sorry mate, but I tend to trust real lawyers vs forum warriors in real life. I guess we will see if he knows what he is doing when the deal closes/collapses.

Completely not related, maybe a bit.

But This reminds of these ongoing statements;
- Xbox doesn’t have games while in fact it have shit tons of games
- at XGS every developer is in development hell - while their are not
- Gampass will destroy gaming - while it is actually enable more people to play
- streaming games (especially when someone mentions xcloud) is shit - while lots of people use it (me included) and it is quite awesome, but vr is future but only by Sony others are sh*t
- any game from XGS will be delayed - literally in almost every thread about XGS you have got warriors with the same message (and magic balls :))
- new one - MS trillion dollar lawyers don’t know what they are doing

On this forum Ms is sh*t at everything, OS, Cloud, Streaming, Gaming etc. they lawyers don’t know what they are doing, they laying off people while having big offices and parties (how dare they, they should sell some of their offices to keep those people employed, and disregard the fact that company is pivoting). And of course no one mention about 1.2 billion severance package for these people, remember, nothing positive about MS.

Now conclusion; How the f*ck such a FUBAR company can then be valued at trillions of dollars. And keep reporting profits at levels that would allow then to afford to buy Sony after couple quarters.

Your missing my point. What I said is that now that MS owns Bethesda, there will never be any of their games outside of their ecosystem. Because MS OWNS them.

Sony doesn't OWN Spiderman. They payed for the Insomniac games, of course, but Spiderman games can always appears on MS platforms (and other competitors) in the future.

And no, what Sony does is not "based". It's a marketing deal. Only a fanboy would applaud them for this. It's just that it's less evil than buying an entire publisher just because you have the money and won't try to do it by providing quality content.

Your point is that is that you approve of MS buying exclusives while no one else may?

That would be a cretinous point to make.

Probably cretinous enough to be tweeted by Brad Sams.

What I'm saying is that you look very concern about competitive issues when that affects Sony, but not otherwise.
I have not said a word when Sony bought Insomniac.
See the difference?

Imagine, comparing the purchase of Insomniac, a company that has traditionally only worked with Playstation and only ever worked with MS strictly for one game.

Vs buying a publisher that has traditionally been third party.

Fucking planet do some people live on

Honestly I hope they are just being disinegous cunts because they are being rewarded in some way for doing so.

I say that because the alternative simply means they are thick as two planks.

We can use Bungie if that makes you feel better.

Sure, use the dev company that's essentially a whore 😂

Been tied to Apple. Microsoft. Activision & now Sony.

But if you wanna use Bungie. Sure. Not asif Bungie & Sony haven't both said they're staying 3rd party.

Which is far more concrete than the drivel Spencer spewed when buying Bethesda of "case by case" basis, then made everything exclusive.

Bit of a difference there.

I’m not concerned about MS - ABK. Its already dead, there’s nothing to be concerned about. The regulators follow their rules and are doing their job.

You don’t understand those rules - if you did you wouldn’t attempt such a juvenile false equivalence assertion.

Must be thick as 2 planks of wood. They have to be. There's not way you can compare Sony purchases to Bethesda & Activision.

As for Spiderman which I've seen mentioned. MS passed on a Spiderman game to focus on it's own IP's, they themselves could of quite easily took it and asked Insomniac to work on it as they where independent at the time.
