It's impossible NOT to be nitpicky about this, considering it's a remake of one of the best games of all time (it's still in my top 3) but: I just reached the castle, and... I don't love it.
It's obviously a fantastic game that's a lot of fun to play, but every change I've encountered, both big and small, came across as unnecessary or annoying, and I'm quite sure that's not just because I'm an old fart who doesn't like change.
If anything, the changes have made me realise how well everything was balanced towards player agency and fun in the original game, as most of the changes in the remake just feel... immediately less fun. They feel like they were done merely to be different, without having thought about how they upend the delicate balance of it all. Like, cool, you can walk and shoot now, but they've made all the enemies more aggressive to compensate. So in order to compensate for that, they've allowed parries. Awesome, but they're pretty OP, so they made the knife breakable so you don't go Sekiro on everyone's. But because a broken knife sucks, they've also included kitchen knives (!?!?!) so that we can still have the parry even when our main knife is broken. Etc.
Like, the core of Resi 4 is still here, but despite this remake's grandeur and graphical fidelity it's definitely a worse game than the original, design wise.
