You must be equally as impressed with GT7 then and Drive club isn't even close to the best graphics on the PS4.

Please stop, no it doesn't. I can give you direct screenshots of the PC version if you'd like.

The above side by side is also made using direct captures, you are welcome to add your direct captures to the topic.

Since this is a vs. thread I'll post some of my PC Forza Motorsport shots running on a 4090. No photomode. All gameplay. How anyone can say lighting isn't better in Forza Motorsport I really don't know. But whatever.

I regret buying the premium edition. help.
That's PC on a 4090?? Damn. That's underwhelming. Specially the last one.

Didnt watch the original video

But Forza looks better in the updated video

But both are so close, that "better" can just come to preference

I prefer the lighting in Forza, looks better imo

Same. That's pretty much how I feel looking at the two side by side.

I didnt play GT7 but I thought GT Sport was a marvelous title that looked better than Driveclub in many spots. GT7 is more of an extension of sport rather than a complete makeover like forza 8 is to forza 7.

I posted some GT7 vs Forza 8 comparisons from the same youtuber who did the Driveclub comparisons yesterday. Forza has a clear edge in weather, day time lighting and trackside detail. GT7 had better night time or rather early night time lighting. The video in the OP on other hand doesnt show much of a difference between the two games.

Nothing semi about it, they are full 3d and the pop in is pretty good for fast pacing game with lots of 3d trees. Sure in the background you can find some 2d sprites but trees close to the track and in the environmant are full 3d.

I am very disappointed in how it looks on a 4090 PC

If I am being honest my main reasons for wanting a new 4090 PC were mostly Starfield and this game

Sad Fight GIF by Top Rank Boxing
I understand the frustration over the downgrades in both games, but both games still look phenomenal and a clear leap over their predecessors. I played starfield at high on my 3080 and am constantly impressed by how good it looks indoors. I would kill to play Forza on a 4090 but my wife will kill me if i spend $1,600 after spending a $1,000 on a 3080 just last year.

The footage at the conference was incredible looking (pc version), the monthly stream footage from Series X looked average.

Quoting this post from an older thread. Do you think they came close to this? or is this footage featuring RTGI thats missing from the final release?

We have a different bar for what a 3D tree is. The game looks unfinished. You can spot plenty of instances where they used 2 x 2D sprites to simulate 3D foliage. The game doesn't even support ultrawide photo mode screen shots.

Forza doesn't even look better than Horizon. SMH

Because Forza Horizon is going for presentation. Again, it all comes back to that. Horizon simply looks better because it looks cooler. All of the bells and whistles like ray tracing go out of the window when the game feels uglier to look at than it's own franchise competitor.

Outisde the first one yeah i saw similar lighting, but those where enhanced compared to the final game obv. with all the RT effects running at higher quality. You can notice that in the last gif with the RT reflections which is far more higher rez than the currently in game RT.

but forza 8 isnt uglier. it might not look better in every scenario simply for the fact that horizon is more scenic but i bet when put side by side like that youtuber is doing with drive club, gt7 and older forza entries, forza 8 will outshine horizon. i always had an issue with the lighting in horizon 5 and while it had better GI and trackside detail than forza 7, im not sure if its still true when comparing it to forza 8. that screenshot is a bs comparison.

I like the camera motion on Forza. GT looks so smooth it's more of an airplane feeling. Sound is also waaay better on Forza.

As for color, I never trust any captures online. Games always look way better when I have calibrated them so I will see for myself on my TV before saying anything.

FH5 still has better trackside detail than any other racing game, FM included. FH environments are insane for a racing game, its just absurdly detailed. But FM has better shaders, effects, draw distance, RT and lighting now i think.

Even if it was technically 3D, it doesnt look much better than 2D. Reminds me of GTA(pictures the other guy posted).
It looks much much better what are you on. He just cherrypicked the worst location in a shitty tod setting. Just look at those, which racing sim has trees that looks like this?

This matters more to me. I'm sorry, it always will 🤷‍♂️

I just don't see what you guys see with Forza Motorsport. It feels technically good looking, but not artistically good looking and that's holding it back in my eyes.

This looks cool:

When I look at Forza Motorsport sometimes I honestly think to myself, Project Gotham Racing died for this?

Its a track racing sim what did you expect. The tracks look fantastic for a sim racer, sure not as flashy as FH but incredible for a track based racer.

The technique is used similarly in FM 2023 with different foliage assets. Which is why i stated it was semi 3D, not all foliage in this game is completely 3D. You just cherry picked shots that showed an abundance of them. Also, please use spoiler tags for an array of large images.

I mean I am a motorstorm guy so yeah, I want cool shit like this over boring shit like sim racers.

LrwH18u.gif

i also want more colors in these sim racers, but honestly, its not a fair comparison. its like asking forza horizon to be more grounded and photorealistic. its just not what either game is going for.

Forza is doing a pretty decent job with more colorful tracks than other sim racers and way better weather effects than horizon for instance.

Hopefully this puts things into perspective. the lighting model isnt just technically accurate, it is just in another league in terms of fidelity. The UE3 quality brown/warm day time lighting in forza horizon games has always bothered me. When the color is slightly more cool or neutral, it doesnt have the light bounce ive come to expect in games like HFW, Cyberpunk and i guess now forza 8.

No spoiler tags for you. 4090 @ the highest settings possible.

With that said, nit picking on foliage in a racing game is stupid. This is the least of this games concerns.

The trees on Maple Valley looked better on Forza 4, more rounded. In Forza 8 you can see the crisscross pattern of the leaves sprites which can look a bit shit.

I wouldn't go that far. But yes, I agree. The cross pattern is very apparent in F8.

They made a lot of cuts to make the Xbox One games hit 1080p60, but Xbox 360 Forzas already had 3D trees swaying in the wind, 3D crowds and some other stuff.

Oh you found some 2d leafs how cute. You act like all the trees and foliage are 2d and the same as FM7 which is hilarious. And you call me blind but miss all those 3d trees in your own shots that cover 90% of the environment. Just look at you how you tryna downplay the 3d foliage. And whats the point of the floating car, the game has bugs is it the first time you see something like that in a racing game? Also sinds you find everything shit in this game and it makes you sick apparently, name one other racing game that has better foliage than this that isn't called Forza.

I'm not really talking about spectacle though guys, more visual flair. I guess I just want a little extra oomph to the game's style, which in turn would add to it's visual flair. I will attempt to compare Motorsport to other games of it's type to make it a fairer comparison.

Ride 4 is a good example of another game that makes me ask 'why can't Forza Motorsport look and feel like this?'

It's another game that makes me feel like I'm looking at a movie at times.

???

There are no planes, crazy explosions, turbo boosts, etc, in Ride 4. That was your and SlimySnake SlimySnake 's issue with me comparing it to Horizon. Now I am comparing it to another sim-like. The only apples and oranges thing here are bikes compared to cars, but that should have no relevance on why each game looks good or doesn't.

What else are you looking for?

Bruh the only reason it look like that is because of all the motion of the helmat cam in replay.

I've put a hundred or so hours into GT7. Love the game. I do think Forza looks better so far overall. But that's not to say GT is by any means a less than great looking game.

Two things:

1) First Person feeling more visceral/engaging because they're adding motion and screen shake to it is no excuse for Forza. Even car games do this in first person. Project Gotham Racing had these kinds of touches and it made the game feel even greater to look at.

9xvhzo4q694z.gif

2) Here's a snippet of your requested third person gameplay of Ride 4 and it looks just as good.

Again, what more are you wanting here? Forza Motorsport is lacking that extra kick in regards to it's presentation.

This is what im saying. Sure some more motion and animation in the cockpit would look good.

Nah this looks very basic in comparison to the other gifs and vidoe's.

I'm not crazy about GT7s visuals, I thought they half assed it from Sport. It's got a great HDR implementation and good car models/lighting. But it was disappointing.

Forza being a next gen exclusive though is probably even more disappointing, the bump just isn't that great. Plus the game seems average at best.

Turk1993 Turk1993 I just want to say, I don't hate Forza Motorsport. I just want better for it. I want those subtle touches to be added to heighten the presentation. It's the little touches that really elevate a game to be something I can look back on fondly years from now and say on this forum 'you can really tell that the developers put their heart into this game'. Whether that's some screen shake and subtle motion blur in first person, to sparks on the pavement, etc.

When the right game hits all of those notes you will feel it when you see it. It's like hearing a song played really well and efficiently vs hearing a song played with conviction and soul to it.

I remember when I first saw the Forza Horizon 5 footage and Microsoft Flight Sim at E3 years ago and both blew me away. That was one of Xbox's weakest E3's in years, yet those games left an impression the entire showcase. That speaks volumes, especially with one genre(flight sim) being a genre that I never, ever, truly cared about.
