The only ones it wont end well for are the console warriors that care about nothing but exclusive and list warring. It'll likely be very profitable for Microsoft, which is why they're doing it. Locking their games to a peice of hardware that cannot compete with the competition while being sold at a loss doesn't make business sense and hasn't for a long time.
It'll tank their hardware sales for sure but will do nothing but drive up software profits, which is where the money is to be made. They'll still release a console for those that are console gamers but it's clear that console sales are no longer a priority as their strategy shifts.
Sony will do the same with PC releases. Don't see them ever releasing their games on Xbox though because the xbox hardware market share is so small and there is still money to be made for them in hardware sales.
This shift will do nothing but make Xbox and Microsoft money.

Well they just don't have patience. They have everything to turn things with these new games and shift consumers next gen.
Sony is in poor management now, only 1 relevant fp game last 2 years. 1 big aaa per year, no showcase.
I think MS just doesn't want, they want at any cost to make subscription model the mandatory way to consume games.

There are obvious ways to make it cheaper, even Cerny outlined them (make them shorter)
If they do, it'll be a time when consoles won't exist, so like 10-15 years or so, maybe more

Yeah....clearly the pitch for Xbox consoles now isn't exclusives, it is Game Pass. That's what he laid out as the definitive value proposition for Xbox consoles. Buy the game on any platform, but Game Pass is only available on Xbox.

BUT it could go "hmm I could buy an Xbox and get these games OR buy a PlayStation that gets all the PlayStation games AND Xbox games and save myself a lot of money not buying another console and subscription"

If they are working on next gen already, and it has an NPU/copilot AI system built in to the system what would that mean for cross platform games at that time? Games that rely heavy on the bespoke a.i. won't be cross platform and only the more traditional type games would be?

That's the new spin since other platforms aren't allowing Game Pass on them and/or it's not lucrative for those who are open to it. You can only slice a penny so many ways. This is a move since it's not sustainable on its own.

Yeah, I mean, people can already buy an Xbox to play their games and take advantage of Game Pass and they're not doing it. So I can't really imagine them doing it now that the games will be available where they are already playing. If anything, this is just giving them another reason not to do it.

Sony will offset that from the increased user base once XBox exits the console market, as well as the 30% platform fee from all the Microsoft-published games it will be getting.
