Rumor: Another Nintendo Direct this week?

A direct about the the current Switch is rumored to be shown later this week, maybe Thursday. This is seperate from the Switch 2 direct which shows on the 2nd. This Switch 1 direct was revealed by someone that first leaked the Switch 2 Direct.

Edit: Confirmed.

It doesn't make sense to me that they would have a Switch 2 direct, where they try to show the new console but the new game announcements over shadow it.

I just don't think the average person is going to be able to digest whatever weird Nintendo thing is here (hardware/OS wise) while at the same time, it's a release trailer for MP4, MK9, etc etc.

Even if it's a 1hr direct, the Switch 2 games and the Switch 2 console, that's two different conversations. People now want 90 second videos.

Why would there be a Direct literally right before an announced Direct? No chance.
Nintendo needs to announce the games it has between now and the Switch 2 launch. Would be weird to use a Switch 2 Direct to talk about a Switch only game coming in April/May.

Another reaosn is that this show might have Switch 1 and cross gen games, while the Switch 2 one might only have next-gen exclusives.

Either way, I imagine this Switch 1 Direct was originally supposed to come earlier.

They should try doing it later. I remember Sony holding a State of Play for PS4 games only in August 2020 right after they had the Future of Gaming event focused on PS5 games in June 2020.

while it doesnt make any sense, it could be to promote some Switch 1 games ( even if they work with the Switch 2 ) since all eyes are gonna be on the Switch 2 after its reveal and will kill any hype for the Switch 1 games.

The State of Play had PS5 games too, plus it was mostly titles that were already announced. I believe Nintendo has games coming April/May that need to be revealed.

That only really makes sense if the Switch 2 launch is further out than we think.

Why would you have a Switch 1 direct if the Switch 2 launch is May/June? Now, if the Switch 2 launch is Q3 or Q4 and you need to fill your release schedule then it makes sense.

What games would even be shown in a Switch 1 direct at this point? I'm guessing mostly 3rd party stuff, unless the rumored Fire Emblem remake is legit.

If Switch 2 launches in June, then Nintendo probably still has first/thrid party games to show for April and May. Not anything big, just small things like the Fire Emblem remake you mentioned or the Kirby Planet Robot remaster or the Prime 2/3 remasters.

So, nothing was announced. But i don’t think Nintendo wants to take away from their messaging. Could it be twitter drop announcements? That makes sense to me.

Or, assuming any new Switch 1 1st party releases will be enhanced on Switch 2, why not just show them in the Switch 2 Direct?

Nintendo seem fundamentally against that idea, looking at things. They'd rather drop whatever they have for the Switch 1 labeled as such than pass it off as next gen titles.

You are likely correct. IMO, it would be best to show them running in the “enhanced” version if this rumor is true.

Unlikely to have anything until the "full" Switch 2 direct

They have will have a full presentation of the Switch 2 in a couple of weeks. It is barely some time for the news to "breath"

This is honestly what I think is happening. It’s just a twisted game of telephone, and some dummy got the dates and content wrong.

Wouldn't be the first time he gaslights his simps. How he gaslit people into thinking that the Switch OLED was what he meant all along when the Switch Pro didn't pan out was masterful.

Hollow Knight was shadow dropped during a Nintendo direct and so was Metroid Prime remastered.

Oh my God! A commercial announced a game?! What am I thinking?! How could I be so foolish?!

Is my sarcasm too subtle? Should I be a bit more direct about it?

Wake up. Go about my business. Get on YouTube. Check trailers for games I'm interested in. Hype accordingly. Go about my day.

But people post smug-ass gifs because a Direct announced a video game. Like, that's some badge of honor for you to be proud of? Think about that. Think about what that says about you and your life. Hint: it's nothing good. Your obsession about a brand and their commercials is strange. I don't know how or why Nintendo fans love to go back and forth in topics with hundreds of posts about some half-assed nobodies on the internet and their sketchy records of guessing at things. Is that fun? How so? I mean, there is nothing wrong with being a fan of something and getting excited if there is good news officially announced about it. But the level of fanaticism and cultism around Directs, leaks, and their predictions seems juvenile and stunted to me. It isn't normal behavior by mature, well-adjusted adults.

I think the last direct was only announced a day away from the direct. But it was rumored long before then.
I was just reminiscing about the Direct where they showed the first TotK gameplay, almost exactly two years ago. They announced it one day before it happened.

I think 50/50 legit but in my mind a Switch 1 focused event makes complete sense. I mean it's unlikely Nintendo will release another major game past Metroid on Switch 1 but there will be plenty of games coming out for a bit.

Nate definitely has sources, but that doesn't mean everything he hears is correct. So we shouldn't take his word (or anyone else's) as gospel.

Nate was right about the Switch 2 reveal date and the Partner Direct last August though.

I actually think Nate works with some 3rd party company that is in advertising and he releases info that “they” want him to release. Nate has been wrong before, but usually is on point.

All these rumors circulating today that MP4 is not at the Switch 2 presentation, and that Switch 2 is only launching w/ 1st party titles seems unfathomable to me.

MP4 would make some sense to be the headline game for this theoretical Switch 1 Direct.

Nintendo’s entire culture is around managing expectations. If they wanted people to be super hyped about a Direct this week, they’d have made sure we were. That there is something relatively minor this week that has still yet to publicly confirmed is evidence of that.

Practically, they would logically want to get the Switch 1 headlines (as few as there may be left) out of the way ahead of April 2nd so they don’t have to take time and attention away from Switch 2 next week. But also because any Switch 1 announcement next week would be widely ignored and overlooked because everyone’s gonna be focused on Switch 2. So it actually does make sense to do something this week and get those minor 2025 Switch headlines done and out of the way. 🤷‍♂️

He used to attend plenty of gaming events so I imagine its contacts he got there. Some of things he's talked about won't have come from advertising companies.

You never put your prize horse in a secondary tournament when you have the option to show it at the main event. But then again we don’t know Nintendo’s plans for BC on Switch 2 and whether or not native upgrades/updates are planned or not.

The general wisdom of MP4 being the big headline first-party crown jewel for launch day like BotW (Wii U/ Switch) was for Switch launch still seems like the most realistic scenario, and of course Mario Kart or something else big as well for the the more mainstream.
