Wuthering Waves |OT| - Devil May Impact

Oh my God, someone must have let out everything that was pent up in their soul. It's all very simple, if you like the game, play it, if you don't like it, don't play it. Everyone has their own tastes, preferences, priorities, and that's absolutely normal.

Which I flat out said in my post, just offering a different opinion and explaining why I have said opinion.

Yes, it's a long post, but that's how I sometimes think and talk, I get it from my mother as she's the same way. It's just how I am, it doesn't mean I was pent up with anything.

Ive finally built Danjin and it feels like i am finally "getting gud" haha.
I swear, I think I'm the only one here on Gaf whose favorite gacha game is Star Rail. It's the only one I feel invested in like 90% of the story and characters (Zenless is probably around 70-80%, and WuWa's story technically improved once it reached 2.0 but still feels significantly inferior to HSR and even ZZZ). I'm not saying there isn't the occasional fumble (2.1 irked me for being the "pull Aventurine" update to such an extent everyone else just hung around and chilled, and 2.6 was…….a choice), but the highs are insane. I admit, the original Luofu story was eh, but Belebog was great, Penacony in 2.0 and 2.2 was superb (and 2.3 being a nice little epilogue), the return to Luofu in 2.4-2.5 was a significant improvement over the planet's original storyline (and the A Foxian Tale event, with the Ghost Hunting Squad, was peak), and despite my initial disinterest in the new planet's theme/aesthetic, 3.0 and 3.1 have been solid so far.
Youre not the only one, i like the game too, just very frustrated with it and outside of the main story i dont like the direction its heading.

The writing and characters are consistently good there, i was bored by WuWa in 1.0, but it closed the gap a lot by 2.0 and devs constantly keep pushing the bar here.

Borisins, Ghost Hunting and Banana patches were my faves, but we dont get quality events like Ghost Hunt, Wardance or Aetherium Wars anymore. I dont want to feel like a party pooper, but the latest event is an idle mini-game without voice acting and its an anniversary event.

As for power creep, devs rebalancing the units is practically admitting that theres an issue. When i compare E4 Jingliu against E0S1 Castorice or high eidolon Blade against Mydei E0S0 or any other erudition against The Herta, they get smoked (to be fair Herta being the strongest obviously makes sense, plus shes my favourite so i am cool with it) and yeah, i know the difference is a few jades in endgame, its why i save time by skipping the final stage at this point.

I am glad youre enjoying it, but a large part of the community is unhappy for many valid reasons.

Danjin is actually a very good character, she and her mechanics just take some time getting used to. Because her gameplay and mechanics are quite different from the rest of the characters, she scares players away.
There is actually a very good and compelling reason to take complex characters in this game, such as Danjin, Yangyang, Changli, Calcharo and others. Because they really require effort and understanding of mechanics from the player. And the main thing is when you get better, you really feel and see the result.

If we take group - Calcharo + Yinlin + Verina. Although it is difficult, it is very good in teaching and training hands and mechanics.
Here we can train Dash Cancel, Landing Roll Cancel on Calcharo, Yinlin allows us to train Swap-Cancel, and thanks to Verina we learn to maintain a high rotation speed. And all this within one group. Game gives the opportunity to assemble different groups to train mechanics.

So after doing some reading, I think I finally have a handle on the WuWa age rating/censor situation. This is just my own 2c from the various articles and posts I've read elsewhere.

So a week or something ago, in South Korea, they had a special WuWa event. A bunch of CN players traveled and tried to buy tickets to the event, but there was a sign at the gate that said "koreans only" or something like that, and wouldn't let the Chinese players in. CN players complained to Kuro about nationalist stuff like usual, and Kuro didn't respond. Then some CN sleuths found out that the marketing/event company that was behind the event was somehow related to Ganyu from Genshin (I think the company's name was "just Ganyu" or something,) so now CN players think that this company purposely did that trying to start drama.

Anyways, fast forward, the unhinged portion of CN players, as the usual bastions of clear/level heads that they are, decided to mass report WuWa to the CN government agency and Apple/Google stores, talking about the lewd stuff (Cantarella's camel toe comes in here). One or all of them must have hit Kuro with requests, so Kuro emergency raised the age rating and made the 2 changes that they made (Cantarella's camel toe and Fleurdelys's ass) in an emergency patch. The age rating thing was to prevent them from having to censor even more stuff, apparently.

Sadly, they didn't communicate any of this to the players globally which caused the crap from yesterday and now they're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The CN fanbase acting like giant manchildren... what a surprise (not)!

Anyway, I decided to get my yandere girl her weapon to make her whole. It took a bit more pulls than I expected, but I'm cool with that since I have plenty of savings for Shorekeeper and what comes next with the anniversary patch.

S Star Rail talk - I really like Star Rail, but the current planet isn't really working for me, for whatever reason I'm really bored by the environment, characters and most importantly, the story. The ending of the current upate seems promising, so here's hoping it'll at least end on a high note.

Holy shit just finished 2.2 story and that was awesome.

indeed it was

Just got the CN focused monthly report. Not much in it about WuWa specifically, but this change in Bilibili's moderation policy is interesting to read about:

Bilibili Enforces New Standards in Gaming Community Behavior

Since the second half of last year, Bilibili has issued multiple statements addressing the need to clean up its gaming section. In October 2023, the platform launched a targeted campaign against malicious provocation and personal attacks in the gaming community. This was followed by a mid-term report at the end of the year, which publicly shared several account bans as concrete examples.

As one of China's most influential platforms for gaming, anime, and youth culture, Bilibili plays a central role in shaping public opinion around new games, especially among Gen Z players. Many developers view the platform as a key marketing and community-building channel, where trending opinions — both positive and negative — can significantly affect a game's reputation and player sentiment.

On March 6, Bilibili released its latest report titled "Special Rectification Data on Provocative Behavior in the Gaming Section," announcing penalties for 5,382 violating accounts, including several mid-to-large-sized content creators. The large-scale action once again reflects Bilibili's strong determination and capacity for enforcement — far beyond a symbolic gesture.

While the enforcement clearly targets toxic user behavior, another focus is to promote more objective and constructive evaluation of games. Bilibili clarified that negative reviews are not being banned outright; rather, the platform aims to regulate absolute, non-objective criticisms, such as those that dismiss entire games or characters without basis, or judge fictional game worlds using real-world social standards.

This move echoes a broader sentiment among long-time users of Bilibili's anime and gaming (ACG) communities. In recent years, the platform has seen a sharp rise in harsh commentary on anime-style games. While some critiques are reasoned and well-supported, many are purely emotional outbursts. For developers — especially those launching new titles — such unchecked negativity can significantly damage the public image of both games and developers, even among casual users.

Those guys can get toxic for sure, wonder if this will have any positive outcomes? I can't imagine how much manpower this is going to take at Bilibili, or if they're going to leverage AI and risk false positives.

I don't visit/use the platform, but here's hoping it curbs some of the gacha wars over there and gets some people to act more civil.

I think they might be going with the second option, as in AI moderation with humans manually reviewing some of those false positives that get flagged.

But, like you said, it's going to take a lot of effort to clamp down on the toxicity that's present in the CN gacha fandom, so I sincerely wish them the best of luck.

imagine not being able to say that games likes concord SUCK DICK, instead having to constructively write a critique about a game that I repeat SUCKS DICK AND WILL NEVER PLAY.

sounds awful

Just checked what's up with the game since I last played it. Man, how can I suppose to get a decent amount of pulls now as a F2P, when they added one of the worst end-game content possible similar to what miHoYo did for ZZZ? Kuro actually made it even worse with modifiers, 90 lvl lock and the same stupid, restrictive and nonsensical team building. What was before all that was bad, but this is just on the whole other level.

The end game is practically the only thing which can get you decent pulls in this game and when it is as bad as it is, what choice do you have as a F2P? And now they're censoring the game... Idk what I'll be doing after seeing all this, but not playing the game at all and coming back a year later to catch on to the story and not caring about any of the new characters seems like... well, makes the most sense right now cuz I'll be skipping a lot of them anyway since I won't have almost any pulls. What a shame, really.

Not sure how true this is, but it looks like Cantarella's censorship is not really a hot topic in JP like it is here in the global community.

Nvm, it might be biased reporting from that dude who lives in JP.
There has been a concerted effort by fans in the US/JP with this news to try to "own the chuds" by everybody chiming in with how unimportant it is, and how it's not a big deal (ironic that they have to make multiple posts to tell everyone how unimportant it is - classic censorship apologist behavior). There are plenty of JP fans bothered by it, and even more bothered by just the precedent that it sets. If it happens once and nobody cares, it's going to keep happening.

For what it's worth, I think the Fleurdelys censorship was the worst of the two, but the Cantarella censorship was on a product that people spent time and money on. That's the real cause of my ire this time, that they can just go in, change a character you already "paid" for at will, with no announcement/repercussions.

Zani's Tags from the test client, have been posted on Reddit- Spectro Frazzle with damage conversion, now officially.

I guess it's not even worth building spectro rover.

That specific resonator is Phoebe.

Unless Zani can be her own character and offer something of her own to the table...well maybe skipping her may come in order.

I really hope SK can clutch in for Zani like you said M Mayar

Most likely She will have a budget version of the build without Phoebe, here most likely the question will be - how much DPS loss will be between the optimal and non-optimal groups. But no one will take measurements now, everyone will wait for the release. Since the test version is constantly being patched, plus it can be patched right before the release, it will be a waste of time at the moment.

I don't want to hear such words again, especially from the person who made Brant S2. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It seems to me that Kuro's strategy on banners, especially if you look at all the latest banners. They are no longer trying to sell one character, no, they sell them in pairs. If we take the same Cantarella, now it's her banner, but in fact, you are not pulling Cantarella, you are actually signing up for the fact that you will pull the DPS that will come out later and will reveal her potential. The same will happen with Ciaccona, again, you are not pulling Ciaccona, you are actually signing up for the fact that you will pull the DPS for her that will come out later (I think we all understand who it will be). If we are talking about the optimal construction of groups, banners come in pairs.

While I do understand that from a business perspective, I honestly don't like if that becomes the norm.

If they paired a 5-star with a 4-star, I could accept a higher frequency more easily, but constantly dropping 5-stars that pair with each other...

Regarding anni: I came across some posts where in PGR Anniversary Kuro usually offers a 100% rate 5-star selector.

I'm curious to see if they'll pull something similar on Wuthering Waves.

I'm out of town for a couple of days, so I'm doing my dailies and events on my phone (Samsung S23), and honestly the game's pretty well optimized.

Got the FPS locked at 40 with FSR upscaling on, so the phone doesn't get pushed too hard. It runs and looks better than I expected. Kudos to Kuro for making the mobile version very playable.

Let's see how it will be on release, I sat and figured in my head from what is currently available. Most likely we will see budget Zani + Mortefi. Why do I think so? Since we do not have Phoebe and that is we cannot generate and buff Spectro Frazzle, we will need to get out due to some other mechanics, if we look at the second icon on Zani profile we will see there -Heavy ATK Damage - here of course everything will depend on how much she really relies on this mechanic, but if strongly then - Mortefi. Taking him into the group we firstly get - 38% Heavy Attack DMG Deepen for 14 seconds with his Outro Skill and plus if he is S6 his Resonance Liberation gives on top - ATK of all team members is increased by 20% for 20s. But I do not have access to the test server, I can not check this, these are purely my thoughts =)

Works with a controller too, when I was on my trip, I took a Dualsense and synced it up via Bluetooth, it was great.

Yea about that... (2 new character leaks, supposedly both 5*)

Didn't know that. I have my Switch with me and also the Pro controller, but I never tried to pair it (pro controller) with my Android phone. Will give it a try to see if it works with WuWa. Cheers!

Is the gatcha in this game agressive? I want to play it but I don't want to suffer.
Here it is not so much a question of suffering, but of self-control. Here everything depends to a greater extent on the psychology of a person and how much he can control himself and not rush to extremes. For example, I have been playing this game since its release, my expenses on the game at the moment are 0$. Do I have all the characters? Of course not. Am I worried about this? No. I have characters on my account that I like to play, and I am completely satisfied with this =)
I dont think i can get Cantharella. So who is next on the Banner Zani?
Ciaccona, according to rumors, there will be no reruns in this patch.

Just finished a quick WuWa session and you were spot on Pejo Pejo . It immediately recognized the pro controller.

Glad I decided to bring it on my trip even though I was not really planning on using it, since I'll mostly be playing an adventure game (VN) that I've been meaning to finish for some time now, lol.

Thick Thighs Save Lives Thick Thighs Save Lives does your world map perform sluggish as hell on PS5 Pro?

I'm testing out some games on the Pro, installed Wuwa and while it performs a bit better than base (it's sharper), it still drops frames left and right.

It's still insanely bad optimized.

Yeah opening the map lags on my Pro as well. You kinda get used to it, but it does suck...

Plus there's lots of fps drops still when in combat in the overworld and even in some of the instanced events. Hopefully they'll fix these perf problems, but I'm not holding my breath.

That said, I have put like 100h in the PS5 version on my Pro so you eventually get used to it. 😅

As a person who played Shadow of the Colossus on PS2, on average 15-20 fps. I have no idea what all these people are writing about, the game runs smoothly like a piece of butter sliding on a frying pan. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

P.S - It's a joke of course, but in general, there are still problems with optimization.
But overall I've gotten used to them and don't even pay attention.

I'd say that out of all the big AAA gachas it has the best monetization (e.g. limited banner weapon guaranteed at 80 pulls; you can buy 2 character dupes from the shop once you pull the limited character, etc.).

This is the best time to start, btw, as the next patch will be the anniversary one which usually means lots of freebies.

Also, you have a few more days to get the best yandere girl...

Last edited:
Generic Generic If yandere girls aren't your thing, then the next banner will be Shorekeeper, who's the best support healer in the game (plus her Black Shores story arc is really good too).

She also has this cool MV which was what got me into starting the game on PC instead of waiting for the PS5 version which released a few months later.

Reminder that Wimpering Wastes resets tonight at daily reset.

I don't really care for the mode, but I was able to get all but one of the asterite rewards in the "normal" resetting zone. Didn't even try the whale zone.

So again a bit of offtopic, but I'll be giving HSR a fair shot, since I like many of the characters in the game, and I hear that Penacony story arc is good. Already have several decent 5* units, and a bunch of stamina that I've saved up from fuel overflow, so the early game is kinda a breeze. Going to try to get Castorice before her banner leaves (need about 60 pulls to guarantee her).

I really like Zani and was planning to pull. Until I discover she's Spectro eww, I already Jinshi I rather save my pulls for other DPS element I don't have yet

Oh man, I'm def going to try to pull for Firefly whenever she returns as she's the best girl. Right now I'm a bit bummed out that Acheron's banner rerun is happening at the same time as Castorice's, since she's one of my favorite characters. :lollipop_pensive:

I mean look how cool Raiden Bosenmori Mei is...

Acheron's story goes interesting places in 2.2, I'll say that much.

Although I guess since you're playing catch up, those numbers are kind of meaningless. Well, 2.0 is the opening act, 2.1 is the middle act (honestly, the one stumble of the Penacony arc, Aventurine is interesting but 2.1 spent way too much time on him over almost everyone else), and 2.2 is the climax with personally my favorite cut scenes of the game so far, plus a few moments that legit got me teary. 2.3 is sort of an extended epilogue.

Personally, Sparkle is my favorite Penacony girl, she's such a troll, I love her.

QQ8c9vy.jpeg

But Boothill (also introduced in Penacony) became my favorite HSR character. Not only is he really cool, but his non-profane "swearing" is legit hilarious and yet still makes him sound cool most of the time, the English voice actor plays it with such sincerity and energy, it just works. He also carried 2.7 for me (which is the infamous Rappa update, she's okay I guess, but the update itself offered nothing for the story or worldbuilding mostly).

and I hear that Penacony story arc is good.
I hope you like it, I personally think this arc is not the best, and quite boring (Annihilation Gang - history, this is one of the worst and most failed PR campaigns in Gatcha game in the history in my opinion), it starts quite fast but then as the plot develops very abruptly loses its grip and becomes uninteresting. They then tried to somehow unload and levelup the story by adding the following stories (Rappa), but the basic story is quite weak. Well, and I wish you good luck figuring out all the references if you haven't played Honkai Impact 3rd. :messenger_grinning:

Someone posted ion Reddit, a boss fight from a test server, the quality of the recording leaves much to be desired of course... But it gives an idea of the fight. Group Zani + Phoebe+Shorekeeper.

Version 2.0 (the first part) of Penacony might be the best patch in the game. After that it devolves into bad writing and forcing characters into the story because they had banners to sell. The Adventurine/Acheron stuff as a prime example, even though I like Acheron. By the end of Penacony you feel ripped off that you wasted so much time on it. Just my 2c anyways. Still isn't as bad as the endless Luofu wanking, but it wasn't great. I think Belobog had the best overall story, but the new area is shaping up to be somewhat interesting.

One thing that HSR just added that I would love for this game to add is a filter that lets you auto select/destroy artifacts that have stats that nobody in your roster can use. If we could do that with Echoes to help inventory cleanup, it could be so nice for me. Hopefully the anniversary has some nice QoL for us.

I completely forgot about the color slider in 2.2 update.

What settings are you running?

Currently settling in 10/70/70 and looks pretty beautiful on the Pro.

The Infinite one? You should give it a try now after the reset, the mode used to be hard, but theyve continuously made it easier and i think they might have went too far with the latest one because ive had a harder time clearing the normal ones than the infinite one today.

Makes me wonder just how big of a damage drop-off Zani will have without Phoebe.

Should be set differently on each screen. But to answer 20/63/50, i really like how the game looks with contrast cranked up while playing, but it makes menus difficult to look at.

What's this color slider thing?

Also, looks like Kuro at least put up a notice about Fleurdelys' censorship. They're still gonna censor her, but probably add a diaper instead of just MSpainting the texture black like it is now. No news/word for Cantarellatoe though. That's probably gone for good.
