Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ≼| OT |≽ La Belle Fantaisie

I

I don't know about this too much. This game has a horrible uncanny valley effect. Characters have attractive faces, but they have weirdly tiny bodies (especially arms) in comparison to head size. It's really weird to look at.
I literally have never noticed nor found the characters here to look weird, physicality-wise. They're just… Athletic and European.

Do I understand correctly that in order to get Perfect for a QTE prompt I have to hit it just as it comes to the last edge of the prompt (the one that is slightly thicker than the others)?
Yes. Or just turn it off in Accessibility settings to have it done automatically.

Only played a little bit, but it has a very weird opening. Almost no facial animations, characters are stiffer than in Oblivion, and the game feels like one of those indie games that want to be AAA with a hamfisted story.
It's an issue with in-game dialogues, but after departing there is almost none (in early hours, idk about later), and in pre-rendered cutscenes animations is ok.

Lune can float. Why would I control the other characters and run like a peasant?
💯

Game does have completely missable/failable side quests. I goofed the one with the chain mine for the guy in the waters area. Oops!

Need more breaking skills. Can't only depend on Gustave
Maelle and Lune are also capable of breaking. Also encourage others to get Maelle's shield breaking skill, I've found it super useful. I have some choice paralysis with Lune, very uncertain where to go with her.

For me, I've put ALL of her skill points into luck, she is level 14 now and has a 22% chance to crit. Pair that with the skills she has that trigger an additional time on crit, and she's already wrecking house.

I finally understand what this is, it's Eurojank French Final Fantasy, in a good way. The first hour can be rough and weird but it grows on you.

Yeah all my party can break now. Lune is very versatile so I don't blame you for being uncertain

I need something potentially spoiled for me, because it's going to bother me if so;
Does Gustave get with Lune at the end? Or does he remain loyal to his wife?
Thank you in advance!
They accidentally see each other naked at a hot spring, then there's another scene where Gustave stumbles around in the dark and accidentally grabs Lune's boobs and she slaps him. That's when they realize they want to be more than just friends.

At the arena now of Gestral Village. Decided to make all of them fight to get xp

And also Just defeated Sciel. Sure as fuck her kit is going to be mental

Game needs a quick retry button à la Metaphor. It would make retrying battles snappier, at least on higher difficulties where you are prone to die more frequently.

It's French Final Fantasy Profile Automata: The Lost Age Fantazio starring Shadowheart from Baldur's Gate 3.

Absolute treasure.
The fact no one is calling this legend of dragoon 2 is a war crime.

This is the LoD combat system but enhanced.

There are these luminas you can pick up that in the inventory says you can consume to increase lumina on your character, but I haven't found how to consume them, am I just too early in the game, also haven't found any way to upgrade weapon at camp. I just got to the Mansion, is that still too early?

Play a bit farther and you unlock the ability to upgrade Weapons, your support items, and adding Lumina points.

Finished the Gestral stuff, now in the cliffs. Damn enemies are hard. Should I replace lune with sciel?

This game gets lot of inspiration from different games but what I like is not so much on the nose about it.....its very much its own unique game.

It's a very unique game. The Prologue felt like the Festival from Chrono Trigger. The Mansion early on made me think of the Mansion from Resident Evil based on layout and the long table. Not sure if intentional but I did think about it.

It's like Xenoblade 3 was storywise. The deeper you go the more you want to keep playing. Akin to wanting to keep reading a good book to find out what happens next.

Give a raise to whoever made the music in this game

It's absolutely fantastic and it blends so well with the environments

It reminds me a lot to Final Fantasy X for some reason

About 5-6 hours into the game, playing it on hard. Hard mode is pretty unforgiving if you aren't good at Parry/Dodge, and what's worse, the timing window seems super tight. I haven't hit a wall or anything like that, but I have died a lot. There have been moments where an enemy/boss does an AOE attack, and just one shots my entire party at full HP because I botched the timing of Parry/Dodge.

Reached 9h in.

It's one of the best western modern games i've played for a long time and the best french release since A Plague Tale.
It's not everyday i'm so proud of my country.

The setting, the characters, gameplay is simple, smooth and yet allows for some fun builds.
The music is great, some tracks are phenomenal. It's a mix of Opera, western & japanese classical & electronic. I just think it loops a bit too much exploring the region and hearing 20 times the same tune... Some silence would be good.

My only REAL drawback is the UE5 crappy stutter i experience EVERY FUCKING MINUTE/FEW SECONDS. ALL FUCKING OPEN WORLD UE4/5 HAVE THE SAME FUCKING STUTTER ISSUE (sorry broken capslock, fixed it now).
How the fuck is this even accepted so widely is beyond me. It simply RUINS a lot of experience. Playing @100fps make these microfreeze absolutely unbearable.
Absolutely NOTHING can be made to save that atrocious engine, at least on PC. I heard PS5 doesn't suffer as much which is ridiculous.

I ran into a small hiccup like 3 times in like 6 hours. Other than that its smooth af without any stuttering for me

Lately ive been in a gaming lull, since last year really. I have bought a lot of games but then barely play them, often retrearing to the same multiplayer games ive been playing for years, just for the sake of it really.

I just wanna say this game has me thinking about it all the damn time and its something I haven't felt in a while, I am super glad I am able to get back into and enjoy a genre that seemed long lost to me.

Can't wait to dive in more today, I even used remote play last night to level grind while the wife was watching tv.

You just don't feel them or your FPS average 40/50. No offense implied. Also G-Sync/VRR make the issue even worse.
Open World UE4/5 "smooth af without any stuttering" doesn't exist.
Shader caching stutter, traversal stutter, it has all the accessories built-in to make the experience atrocious. It's a fact, it's not just my experience or interpretation.
Even CDP acknowledged it was a major issue to fix for TW4.
That engine is cursed. Hogwart's Legacy is the same dogshit, Oblivion is the same dogshit. Silent Hill is the same LMAO dogshit.

my fps is above 90 all the time. I played 4 hours today and only had 1 0.5 sec hiccup, nothing else

Yessss this, I was missing it already. Even on regular difficulty there are some 'hard' enemies hanging around you will only beat if you perfectly dodge everything. Would be nice to just be able to rewind the fight if I mess up and someone gets one-shotted. One of my favorite features of Metaphor, really saves a lot of frustration.

Then you are lucky you don't feel/see them.
Again, no offense implied. I wish i wasn't so sensitive to that shit lol.

I am sensitive tho, but im glad im not feeling it in this one :) People said the pc port is bad before i played the game. Im playing it maxed out above 90 fps, looks and runs amazingly, so dunno where those bad pc port complaints came from

Just so you see for yourself it's not my PC (7950X3D/32GB/4090 here) or imagination : https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?t=13813
This is a global explanation of Unreal Engine 4/5 atrocious issues.
The game is not a bad port in itself.
No Open World UE game is spared by this plague.

Do you play on a G-Sync/VRR monitor as well ? The issue is worse on those.

Well then, i have no more explanation.
Did you experience atrocious stutters on Hogwart's Legacy, Silent Hill 2 or Oblivion ?
If the answer is No, then you're definitely someone lucky enough not to feel them and i'd gladly apply for eye exchange so i can finally enjoy Unreal Engine slops a bit more lol.
