Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

System transfer etc. is done and I've re-package the Switch (1) in the Switch 2 packaging - after 8 years of service.

Feels super nice to finally get some better Nintendo hardware. This was loooong overdue imo.

Although it is very much a 'more of the same' kind of feeling. I don't mind though.

can anyone

for the love of god

see if the new xenoblade game or any of the xenoblade games are 60fps on Switch 2?

It's the first thing I'll be trying on mine. But from what I gather, there isn't any upgrades, it'll be the same with a steadier 30fps.
please let it not be true. @ me whenever you've tried it please.

Will be waiting for your feedback

Finally loaded up Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (I guess the giant download was the DLC whoops)

First thing I noticed right off the bat was that the loading times were significantly improved. I guess that makes sense, because of the system's faster storage. It felt kind of like loading up PS4 games on the PS5 - natively supported, but faster load times all around.

The sad news is that the game still ran at 30fps. The doublely-sad news is that the game's jaggies are a lot more apparent with the larger screen (I only ever play in handheld mode, so people playing this on a TV back in the day probably would have noticed that too).

The good news is that I fast-traveled to an open world area and started a battle with a bunch of enemies at once, and the game seemed to have held it's 30fps framerate the whole time. The OG Switch was usually pretty good at this too, so it's a pretty similar experience, but there were definitely some slowdowns happening when the battles got intense.

Sorry to disappoint, but this game plays more or less identically to Switch 1. But faster loading times are nice, I guess.

Hopefully the game gets a patch that can unlock that framerate.

Okay. Console feels great tbh, huge step up from the Switch. Doesn't have that plastic feel. Joycons are way smoother and so is the new pro controller.

TOTK is such a huge improvement.

MKW is fun so far. Knockout mode online is the best thing that MK has ever done. Justifies the world aspect of the game for sure.

Thanks so much for this update, but I don't get it - why do some games "rawdog" 60fps like Bayonetta 3 etc without a payed upgrade but this game for example still runs at 30? Is it like, they programmed it to be locked at 30 or what? Do we think they might one day patch it and "unlock" the framerate?

Thanks again.

I fucking love this thing. They improved the input lag of Switch 1 across the board. Everything I've tried so far feels much more responsive than it used to. I even like the screen. The back buttons of the new Pro controller will take getting used to but otherwise it's really nice. My weekend's sorted.

Really excited to see how Bayonetta 3 and Astral Chain perform on Switch 2 if anyone tries them.

Night and day difference with Bayo 3. It's practically a new game. Tried a bunch of chapters and it didn't dip below 60fps once. Astral Chain is still 30fps.

Yeah seems some games basically were programmed to say "just run this at as high a frame rate as you're able" which is why some games are seeing massive boosts with the new hardware. Considering that Monolith is a first party dev from Nintendo and these games are hugely loved, I would guess that we're getting at patch. I'd be thrilled to pay $10 for an "upgrade pack" too if they added new content. It'd also give them an excuse to put these out to retail again.

Also, this track is still such a massive banger, so hype

Can't believe target …
Yup. I cancelled my online preorder. Walked in the store and picked up the bundle for my son an hour after they opened. They had a ton of them. If you want one, you can get one. Nintendo made a ton of these things. I can now return my non-MK bundle to Walmart.

Apologies for asking about something that I could just google, but:

Does a system transfer automatically download all of your Switch software to the Switch 2, or can you pick and choose what you want to download?

I'd like to carry my account and save data over to the new system, but I want it to be as empty and uncluttered as possible otherwise. I have so much shit on my OG Switch, and I would really like to just have Mario Kart, Hogwarts, and the GameCube app on the Switch 2 and then download my old games on a case by case basis as I want to play them.

it only puts the games on your home screen. and I think it tries to download them in the background on Switch 2. it doesn't transfer them over. only your save data etc.

at least it did that for me.

Thanks! So will I have to manually cancel a bunch of downloads then? Not a big deal. Just curious.

Bayonetta seem to run at a locked 60 now. at least in the level I tested.

sadly, the way they coded the dynamic resolution means it doesn't react to the framerate or GPU load, but to what effects are on screen.
so the resolution is still crap in many scenes, but the framerate seems fixed at least.

I hope they patch it.

as for Astral Chain, I mean, it's locked to 30fps. I haven't tested it yet, but I assume there won't be much chage without a dedicated patch

It only Loads them on the screen. You then pick which ones you want to download. They come over as Virtual Game Cards.

Screen protectors are horrible. My wife got a screen protector when she bought a new phone last weekend, and they had a machine in the Apple store that applied it perfectly, precisely aligned, no dust or bubbles. Plus they guarantee to replace it if it starts peeling.

That's the only way to go, I'd never try applying one myself again.

for anyone wondering, Deadly Premonition 2 still runs like shit 🤣

I think that game is just broken beyond repair.
it runs slightly smoother, but it hitches every 3 seconds or so (probably data streaming related, I have the retail version, someone who has the digital version should try if the faster Switch 2 storage might fix it)

It switched to shipping now probably won't let me cancel. Oh well, honestly I'm just glad I know I have one without the stress!

Tears of the Kingdom, without the Switch 2 upgrade, still profits from the Switch 2 hardware. no 20fps anymore when using the hand, it seems to be locked to 30 fps now

Putting on a screen protector is definitely in the top 10 worst experiences. But you have to put it on as soon as you remove the packaging, and you need sticky tape to remove the dust.

Waiting on my system to be delivered still, but im reading all over that none of the 8Bitdo Pro Controllers work on Switch 2. I'm hoping they put a fix out because i really don't want to buy a Pro Controller....

For anyone struggling with Portal 2 crashing on Switch 2: put the system in airplane/flight mode. If you're docked, delete your wifi settings.
The game crashes when connected to the internet for some reason. Portal 1 seems to work fine.

Just buy a screenprotector with a Installation tray. I can't do it without it and works perfect.

Walmart knows you all are Fatties.
Mine came with a full stack of cheese and sour cream pringles (my favorite) and a 20oz bottle of orange cream coke (also my favorite)

I call that a win

Just installed Mario Kart World + all my Switch 1 games and I have 136gb free. Looks like I don't need to be in a hurry to find a microsd express card.

Do you think GTA V and RDR 2 will come out on Switch 2 before GTA 6?

Red Dead Redemption 2: Yes. There have been rumors from multiple sources that a port is coming later this year.

No idea about GTA V. There are rumors that GTA IV is coming to all current gen consoles (including Switch 2) this year, but I haven't heard anything at all about GTA V.
