Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Anyone have a chance to play Splatoon 3? Any updates or bump to reso?
I played a bit yesterday, it did not receive a Switch 2 update, still 30 fps in the city, but multiplayer (60 fps) has a better resolution as it's dynamic.
Also loadings are so quick, impressive.
Always on HDR looks nice on TV.

Less than 24h after release.

It's not enough to play homebrew or anything, mostly just a browser exploit... for now.

Is it me or the battery life is terrible ? I played like 40min of Cyberpunk and lost like 30%

And somehow the console was charging throughout the night but was at only 86% this morning

The battery saver option is turned on by default - or so I've heard.

It basically charges the battery up to 90% and then stops, maybe that's what happened 😉

Boys, don't take this as "misinformation" but, be careful when docking the thing 'cause I've already read about scratched screens on Reddit.

I'm putting a tempered glass on as soon as I get the thing later today, can't keep stressing out about such things, a screen protector is always a must and it's the cheapest, easiest way to protect...everything that has a screen 😉

BONUS : the HDR being "broken" in portable mode (making things washed out/foggier), it appears that this is tied to the auto-brightness setting and most probably will need some fixing

I decided to grab a Physical game to add and went for Yakuza 0, a game I love and have played before but there is not much else aside from maybe Hitman (I recently 100% CP2077 and own it on everything else) so thats coming today

Also looking at the store, I though Deltarune was a free game? I own the first Chapter on switch so was weird to see it for £20 on here, I did get both Zelda Updates via the Expansion Pass at least

You going to take off the screen protector that Nintendo tells you not to take off before putting the tempered glass on? Tough call honestly because the clarity will likely suffer if you don't, but it probably voids the warranty if you do.

There's a plastic layer on top of the screen. Advice is to put on a protector right away.

That's because it charges up until 90%, then stops charging, as to not wear out the battery too much. I think it goes down to 85% and then charges again, but I'm not sure. It's a guess.
My Switch 2 does the same thing, so it's not that you have a faulty switch or something.

Please Nintendo, at least let us play Switch 1 games "Docked" on handheld mode, it would make a world of difference, especially for the Xenoblade games. At least that, or give us resolution patches

You also have the demo of Street Fighter 6

Why would I take the OEM protection off my good man ? I'll just slap the tempered glass on top of it - clarity won't suffer whatsoever since this is a normal, glossy (i.e , non anti-glare) one.

For 5-9€ these things cost it's a no-brainer, they're literally the best investment you can make for your device, I'll never understand the people that go "raw" with their devices, "I'm always careful with my stuff" - until they aren't and then go back to Reddit to cry about scratched or broken screens, it gets me everytime 😁

TLDNR :
- Everyone should get a screen protector, it's the cheapest investment you can make for your new device.
- Anti-glare protection, yes, can mess up with the clarity AND brightness, especially those "privacy protector" ones for smartphones which REALLY fuck up the brightness and especially the screen clarity, normal/glossy ones though ? nope 😉

EDIT : The Jerry rig everything video shows that the screen is EASILY scratchable (it's the OEM top layer/protection that Nintendo places) but, it's not like that it's easily replaceable, that's why you should opt for a tempered glass, add to that some early impressions from people that already managed to scratch the screen due to the dock and...it's a no-brainer really.

So I played Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2 (portable) and the Steam Deck OLED and the picture quality seemed comparable? XeSS Ultra Quality on the Deck, 30fps cap, mixture of low and some medium settings. Steam Deck appeared to have more stutters, but the Switch 2 dropped fps a bit more. Checking online all the comparisons I see are still sticking to FSR for some reason.

Good showing from the Switch 2 considering the power draw difference.

I'm having fun with Mario Kart. I'm sure they wanted to push the multiplayer at launch, but the console could really use Bananza right now. Need a single player Switch 2 game at launch. Didn't realize it was still over 40 days away.

The title of the thread should have been "now you are playing with power (again)", it's not exactly the Switch 2 is what the Super Nintendo was for the 16 bit generation...(2nd only to the Neo Geo at the time..) and neither is Nintendo in the horsepower race like they were in 2000/ 2001

I downloaded my transfer saves, the update for botw, and the new Mario kart.

Played botw for 10 minutes. My battery was already at 75%... What the fuck? That's pretty bad

Nintendo really needs to have a Direct soon to show us what we can expect this year.

Keep us engaged and hyped, Nintendo!
We usually get a June Direct around the 10-17th if previous years are anything to go by, then again it's Nintendo so who knows

If they do anything, probably Aug or Oct.... No way there is a Direct in Just after a console launch

For anyone with an LG OLED TV that are struggling with the HDR calibration this is the reason: Dynamic tone mapping on your TV will be set to 'on'. As you try and make the right symbol disappear the dynamic tone mapping is trying to hold on to it.

I think games look better with dynamic tone mapping on so I just made the right symbol disappear as much as possible and left it at that.

Same thing will happen with any calibration regardless of the game or console if dynamic tone mapping switched on. Like I said though I think the setting makes the visuals nicer and pop more.
I set my Dynamic Tone Mapping to HGIG and it works fine now.

I sold my Switch 1 a few years ago and the Switch 2 lets me redownload my old digital purchases no problem.
I think it's because my S1 was the primary console. You likely wiped or factory reset your S1 which deregistered it.

After looking into it a bit more I would have been fine if say my S1 didn't work and was still my primary console. You can deregister online once a year as well.

I wanna know when Metroid Beyond is out! Really enjoying the Switch 2 so far. Never liked how underpowered the undocked play was on switch 1 and 2 really fillls thet need for me. Still, really wish Banaza and Beyond were launch titles. Feel that both are ready, however Nintendo wants to stagger their games for strategic reasons, which sucks imo.

Gave the BotW/TotK upgrades a whirl today, very nice performance boost. Shame I've already burned myself on both titles.

Also tried out M&L: Brothership, couldn't tell much of a difference from running it on Switch unfortunately. That game could really use a 60fps update that also removes load times.

We may get a dedicated metriod direct. That is a thought.

Very interesting stuff when he talks about Dragon Quest Builders 2. Going from ~8fps up to ~24fps shows that even with the translation layer, the Switch 2 CPU is 3x faster. Since it is a BC game it is not taking advantage of the extra CPU cores either. Seems the Switch 2 CPU is probably ~5x faster than the Switch 1 if properly optimised for the extra cores.

The Zelda upgrades and app sucked me right back into Tears of the Kingdom. The app is great if you missed something and can't figure out what it was. Weirdly, it seems to pull data right of the Switch rather than a server.

Both BotW and TotK are incredible on Switch 2. If you missed them, now's the time.

Just got back with my spoils!! Will wait until tomorrow morning so I can do the whole unboxing thing with my kids rather than have them open it all up and have to go to bed straight away. Can't wait!

Played some old Switch games on Switch 2 last night to test... it feels like Switch 2 is a PC-style upgrade for those games. They just run and load better, even the ones not patched for it. Some games feel completely different at a stable frame rate.

I turned off auto-brightness as soon as I turned it on.
I assume Metroid Prime 4 will be the big holiday title for this year.

Also, my local Target has plenty of the 256gb Samsung memory cards but I'll wait for a 512gb to be in stock somewhere.
None of my local stores had pro controllers in stock so I'll just grab one whenever I see them in stores.

Yes I can see it being an October release with Pokémon in November. And maybe a new Mario/Mario related stuff for the 40th anniversary

EDIT: well I guess I'm blind, Pokémon will release in October, so maybe reverse indeed

As a big fan of the Switch, the Switch 2 is extremely underwhelming. This doesn't feel like anything more than a Pro upgrade, which was needed, but not enough games support it. I tried Odyssey and it wasn't as big for me as the video floating around. There was still a lot of jagged edges. Same with BotW. I didn't waste my money on MKW because a Mario Kart game isn't worth $80, but it also didn't look that amazing.

If you have a Switch 1 like I do, and use it for Nintendo only games, you can skip this console for a good while. It's not going to blow your mind like it will for hardcore Nintendo-only fans. As I said before, this feels like a Pro upgrade, not a sequel to Switch.

What is this even? "Man Switch 2 is underwhelming" *Plays only Switch 1 games*.
