Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Not sure what you're saying here.

It's a translation layer basically, mapping old instructions to new ones. It's kinda like emulation, but not really, they're not emulating a full Switch on the Switch 2.
I was saying the original Switch hardware was weak so it would be tough for the Switch to run games on those original frame rates. It's simply better by default.

This weekend was all about MK world 4p split screen.

It sucks thats 30fps but my friends dont notice these things at least.

The camera is such a gimmick but it added stupid laughs.

The slipstream being buffed is so good, we would yell "give me your air"

I had 26 games installed (a lot of small stuff like Ib and Witch's House but also big stuff like BOTW) and I still had 99gb available.

I decided to not really ever bother with it as realistically I won't have that much installed and I still had a ton of space.
The internal storage should be enough for the first year or so. I'll wait until prices go way down.

Is anyone else seeing the HDR option greyed out and non-selectable in Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2?

I have the console's HDR set to Compatible Games Only and it works with other games as well as the dashboard which defaults to using HDR on my LG C3 OLED TV but Cyberpunk 2077 loads up with HDR disabled. The fact that there is a setting for HDR in the game obviously means the game supports HDR but I am puzzled as to why I cannot select it.

Does the console's HDR setting have to be forced to HDR for all games? If so, then Cyberpunk 2077 has a bug because if a game supports HDR, which this one evidently does, then HDR should be selectable when the system HDR is set to Compatible Games Only (since Cyberpunk 2077 should be compatible, right?).

Someone needs to start a thread for the Switch 2 listing Switch games that are enhanced on Switch, whether by a native patch, or by virtue of the more powerful hardware allowing framerates and dynamic resolutions to increase. Would be nice to have some kind of list I can refer to.

I have a large library of Switch games, around 100, mostly first-party, and while I am working my way through some of them on Switch 2, I keep getting distracted by Super Mario Odyssey!!! Took me two days after getting the Switch 2 to try Mario Kart World and four days before I loaded up Cyberpunk 2077.

Yeah, but if it was actually emulating the Switch that might have been the case. An accurate emulator runs games just like the original hardware did.

I can try to do it later today, I keep watching improvements videos since launch

If you want to (very) soft mod your joycon into a dpad you can use these/this cap. Again, I used this on my Switch 1 and it worked great

I've got a package arriving Wednesday. I ordered one of those, so I hope that's what's coming.

Maybe its time to play bayonetta 3 on this thing. I need to find a cheap copy. I assume its never discounted digitally since its basically a nintendo game

i'm torn between this or the savage raven (skull&co) neogrip 2
The ZenGrip2 is dockable and I'm not partial to grips that have swap in and out parts...but that's just my personal preference. How important to you is it it have the system docked with the grip still attached?

I'm finding that the early offering is reallly shitty. The cheap amazon version I'm using right now will dock if I press down, but then will somehow undock later until I press down again.
Makes me think there is just not enough room in the dock itself to work with most grips.

Fuck man, don't say that 😬
Thing is, even those that are SUPPOSED to be dockable aren't - thank God for user reviews 'cause otherwise, these CHY-NA cheap shite would keep selling, now at least they'll try to improve on them ?
AliE and Amazon are full of disgruntled buyers that bought these so called dock-compatible skins/covers, I don't get it though, haven't these companies tested their shit before actually going into full production? It boggles the friggin mind man...

Anyway, this is a real problem for me since I NEED one NOW but apparently, such a product doesn't exist - apparently, only some 1-piece ones manage to fit inside the dock...

In other news, I got reminded that whenever someone buys a portable system/device (phones/tablets even), the €/$ keep adding up - 10$ here for some fookin' tempered glass, 7$ there for some friggin' thumbgrips, 10-20$ for a silicone skin, 15-25 for a carrying case, 30-90$ for an extra koypad and the list goes on...
I'll be looking at PS5 Pro prices after everything's said and done ffs...

After a few days of "regular use" with mine, gotta agree that the battery life is not good. Very reminiscent of the OG Switch in 2017 (before they launched the units with the better battery). It also seems to take FOREVER to charge, like hours. Compared with something like my phone that can charge in about 45 minutes from fully dead, it's pretty much a "put it on the charger at night and in the morning it'll be charged" thing.

I know it'll deteriorate the battery health over time, but I had to turn off the "charge to around 90%" setting, because the word "around" was doing some heavy lifting there. So far it has actually charged overnight to 72%, then 78%, then 75%, and finally this morning it was 82% - so I think that setting is either broken or not correctly calibrated. With as bad as the battery life on this thing is, sacrificing another 20%-25% charge isn't worth the trade-off to me.

Maybe I'll try that setting again after this gets a few firmware updates.

Nintendo on Switch 2 Launch: No one gets left behind!

Pretty freaking cool of Nintendo

I'm more of a Daisy man myself

Just bought Marvel vs Capcom fighting collection and played it. Boy does playing it on the Switch 2 suck ass, i really need something to grip the joycons. Anyone have suggestions? Preferably silicone if possible.
Doubt you'll enjoy this using the joycons even with a grip.

When SF6 released 2 years ago I bought the Switch version of two PowerA Fusion Wired Fightpads although I had no Switch.
They work perfectly on PC and of course also with the Switch 2.

Ideal controller for all 2D fighters, GB, GBA, NES and SNES games.

You know what's the worst thing in all of this ? that the charging itself (via the Dock) takes more time than the actual play/screen time.

When you have a portable that lasts 2 hours and somethin' max but the charging takes almost triple than that...yeah, we have a problem.

Mind you, when charging it via the USB port (i.e, not via the Dock ) it takes about 3 hours.

they are both dockable, i'm just not sure how comfortable the zengrip is, i already have a skull&co neogrip for the switch 1

How the hell did Nintendo regress on this after 8 years? Insane.

they can't win, when the original switch was announced people were complaining that we don't need handheld mode. now that the console is more powerful people are starting to complain that it gimps handheld mode

This new pro controller is so fucking good. It just melts in your hand as you play... feels perfect. Love the d-pad too.

Mario Kart World is good and all, but I spent the entire day yesterday playing BOTW with the same feeling of awe when I first played it all those years ago.

I'll openly shit on Nintendo for thier shitty behaviour, however I have to admit I'm absolutely loving the Switch 2. It's such a joy to play.

If its anything like their ZenGrip for the Switch OLED then it feels great! Unfortunately you can only order from their site and it doesn't have any reviews yet. Also, it's a bit more expensive than Skull & Co.

I'm personally going to get the ZenGrip2 since the first one I got felt great. Maybe wait until customer reviews first if you are unsure.

OLED wins on battery life in dark content. Battery drain can vary a lot based on what's shown on screen.

LCD is more efficient than OLED in bright scenes. Battery drain with LCD us consistent regardless of the content.

So a high-nits OLED HDR display would reduce Switch 2 battery life even further with bright games like Zelda.
Good thing this screen is not high nits ;). Zelda is helped by raised blacks / bit too bright overall picture but even that one has a mixture of areas where brightness of the highlights is higher than the brightness of the rest of the environment. With HDR and the Switch 2 display to drive 450 nits or more (if the screen even could) the backlight would need to be driven as high as possible JUST for the highlights.

IF the screen was mini LED based / had lots of small dimming zones yes it would help a lot, but a single backlight / edge lit screen trying to drive high nits HDR content in a very small spots on the screen (Zelda does not have super bright section constantly taking lots of space on the screen) would use peak brightness for the backlight constantly.

Overall, especially considering this is not a machine designed only for those games, OLED would drive a better bargain battery life wise. You are thinking of a perverse version of mega bright neon Tron here.

Holding the bottom (rounded) corner of each joycon in the palm helps. As does resting the middle finger under the ridge below the triggers. But I was thinking pop sockets on the back might make for an ingenious solution. Although would interfere with the dock perhaps.

Heads up: there's a grip on AliExpress for around 10 euros that is pretty fantastic. Its the one by "Dobe" that also has game card slots on it.

Dirt cheap and feels sturdy and comfortable

So since Verizon sucks balls and backordered my order from 6/5 even though they took my money and gave me an order number that first day, how is stock today in local stores? I cancelled my Verizon order and will just try to hopefully get one this week locally.

I tried Rune Factory: Piczle Cross and can confirm that it runs a lot better and higher res on Switch 2 than Switch 1. There might be like one other person who has played that game, but the info is now out there.

Battery life :

It averages at almost 2 and a half hours with CB2077...

...what I really find unacceptable though, is the fact that the ROG ally only manages about 1 hour and somethin' minutes, how are these systems considered to be "portable" ?
The SD appears to be better but, battery life is the biggest problem with portables.
External battery.

The more powerful the portable system becomes shorter battery it will have especially for high demanding games.

People demanding more power on portable systems but that's the price.

For me it doesn't matter because I didn't buy system like Switch 2 for it portability.

Or try this:

Battery tip from Nintendo Prime: Retrain the battery to improve battery life due to the possibility it has been sitting in a warehouse for ~6 months. Turn off the 90% battery limit setting if you have it on. Play until the S2 completely dies. Charge up to 100%. Do that a few more times. And now you should be getting the rated battery hours of the S2.

Haven't done this since 2014

Been playing the hell out of the system and haven't been able to replicate the overheat warning/shutdown. Some people said it happened when they were playing and downloading which I was at the time but I thought the Switch paused downloads when playing online connected games, it was MKW but in free roam.

Anyway, it's something to keep an eye on.

50% screen brightness, which is pretty unrealistic in most scenarios. At 80-100% brightness battery life is around ~2 hours.

Rog Ally was/is pretty terrible, the X basically doubled battery life.

Have your noticed the system gets pretty warm? A friend with one was concerned for his when playing the welcome tour because apparently you take it out of the dock while playing that.

No, but I have grips on mine so I'm not touching it directly.
