Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Some nice info in the latest DF direct, appears the Switch 2 has access to two (maybe more?) different versions of DLSS. The first being the full featured version we have seen in Cyberpunk 2077, which appears close/identical to the latest CNN version 3.7, and another one that is very lite. The lite version has no equivalent on PC and is extremely fast to run. It is basically what allows Fast Fusion to upscale to 4K/60fps. Naturally nothing in life is free, and this lite version of DLSS is simply not as capable as the regular version, and thus the precision/quality is lower with a softer resolve than what you would expect from DLSS. But it is better than plain old regular TAAU. More information in the video tomorrow.

Edit: Hogwarts Legacy, Pokémon S/V both use the lite version. Among others.

This seems like a great start to ask about a problem i have with my s2.

I happends sometimes, that it just turns off by itself, docked. I have been playing swith 1 since release and with the same settings on the tv etc eith exactly 0 problem, so its not that. But sometimes; baam! It just shuts off, the switch and the controller. I have been gaming on consoles since -86 so kind of a veteran. I know how things works and i have never had any major problem with any console, so this annoys me.

Is it some kind of overheatproblem? Thats seems really odd if it should be i have maybe played 10h since launch, mostly MKW.

Anyone having same problem? This sucks, because it doesn't feel right.

Does it switch off while you are playing? Or just when it is doing nothing? If you immediately take it out of the dock after it shuts down how warm does it feel? Really hot to the touch?

So here's my first impression after 24 hours with the Switch 2:

Positive:

👍 Display is good. It's not OLED, but by no means is this a bad display. I deactivated HDR for handheld use. Colors pop. It has IPS viewing angles but this only matters in tabletop mode. If it weren't for that German guy who did the professional measurements on YT, people would be super happy with it.

colors do not "pop" they are oversaturated, unnatural mess, in a showroom tv style, without any settings to tweak them.
there is night and day difference when compared on an actually calibrated oled tv and handheld. 👎

Darksiders 3 is running at 60fps on Switch 2 now because it originally had an uncapped frame rate on Switch 1. This makes it the only console version of the game which runs at 60fps since the Xbox and PlayStation versions each have a 30fps cap that was never upgraded for the PS5 and Series consoles.

All I want from switch 2 is Hades 2 and the ability to play PS5 remote play/moonlight. That would make me happy. Hopefully it gets hacked soon enough so remote play apps can be ported.

I noticed a weird bug with my switch 2. I hope it's a bug and not a hardware issue.

When Im in a game, go home and close the game. The sound would cut off (no system sounds when navigating) and whatever i do next (open another game, sleep mode etc) the switch would just not freeze, but apart from letting me move around, nothing else would happen. If I select sleep, the screen would go black, but thr switch would still be on as indicated by the green light and only way to get it back on is to hold the power button for like 12-15 seconds and then press it once to turn on. This only happens in docked mode and not very often. The first time I thought my switch died 😆 I can play any game with no issues and nothing crashes or freezes while playing games.
Anyway, anyone else having a rare issue where the switch 2 would lock up after closing a game in docked mode?

"finished" BOTW and now onto TOTK, but gotta say TOTK is nowhere near 1440p, its much closed to 1080p. Nintendo need to remove the dynamic FSR it has too, as its extremely jarring having every cutscene render at the lowest resolution then make its way up. But they couldn't even be arsed upscaling the home menu from 1080p, so chances of this happening are low.

Where my Xenoblade patches Nintendo?

The switch 2 has revived my playing of old games I never finished. I won't need to buy a game for a long time. I even ordered a D brand Killswitch

Something similar happened to me too: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/nint...ing-with-power.1684620/page-57#post-270523724
It's only happened once though. I'm sure Nintendo has a few bugs to patch with a future "stability update".
Docked, and no freezes or crashes during games like you

If you're not playing Mario kart or 2077

What are you playing?
The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero
Vampire Survivors DLC
Star Trek Legends
Picross S8

Basically, the same stuff I was playing on Switch 1 but with a bigger screen

Has anyone gotten surround sound to work??

I have a vizio soundbar and because switch 2 only outputs LPCM, most surround soundbars and inexpensive receivers can't decode it. Any cheap way to get it to work?

I gotta find something to play that isn't Mario rpg, kart! Or super smash right now

Thank me later.

PSA from Google AI in case anyone needs to hear it:

Nintendo Switch 2 game-key cards are designed to be account-agnostic

Here's why:

  • Not tied to accounts: Nintendo has confirmed that inserting a game-key card into a Switch 2 allows you to download and play the game on that console, regardless of the Nintendo Account linked to the console. This means they function similarly to traditional physical game cartridges, where ownership is based on the physical media itself.
  • Facilitates sharing and resale: This design allows players to freely lend, trade, or resell their game-key cards just like physical cartridges for previous console generations. Whoever has the physical key card can download and play the game on their Switch 2.
  • Requires card insertion to play: Although the game data is downloaded digitally, you'll still need to have the key card inserted into your Switch 2 to launch and play the game. This acts as the physical key that unlocks access to the downloaded game.
In summary: Switch 2 game-key cards are not tied to specific accounts or consoles, allowing for the same level of sharing and resale flexibility as traditional physical games. They require an internet connection for the initial download and the physical card needs to be inserted to play.

Can't wait for bravely default remaster and Raidou.

GameChat is amazing. My switch 2 is under a media cabinet fully out of the way and I was able to chat clearly with a friend with perfect audio on both parts. While playing Fortnite. So easy to use and such clear voice quality. Super impressive!

Yakuza 0, Fast Fusion and Bravely Default.
I get people are not fan of game key card but it's crazy to me how much Bravely Default is on Switch 2 getting overlooked.

On Switch 2 the game can look gorgeous even its remaster of 3DS game.

Nvidia broadcast at work I assume.
it's a great tool to get rid of noise.

everything you just named i have on PS5 LOL

looking for more nintendo exclusive stuff even if its for switch 1. my switch 1 library was small but i think its time to stock up
Hogwarts legacy I started on PS5, but time is limited to play at home so it always fell by the wayside.
Hitman I started when I played on PC 'back in the day', but never played much.
No Man's Sky I play since day 1. Been there on PC, PS4, PS5, Series X and Switch 1...the free upgrade just had to be checked out.
And Bloomtown I got on Switch 2 now, haven't played much, but seems fun 😊
