Who plans to cancel something like hardware? Either you do, or you don't.
Anyone doing up hardware would have some kind of exit strategy but that's different than cancelation

I have zero sources and zero knowledge of what is going on. From the outside looking in, it looks like there is a major shakeup happening at Microsoft and things are moving fast. Promoting Judson Althoff, the Game Pass changes and all of the other noise appear to indicate that MS has shifted into a higher gear to get to where they want to be and they are not going to let something like the Xbox division slow them down.
I do believe Jez has some sources but I believe those are limited in both what they can share and when they can share it. I believe it puts him behind someone that might have knowledge of the real inner workings of what is going on. TBH, I am not sure MS knows 100% if they are, or are not, launching their next traditional console any longer. They did "shelf" the handheld they had been working on. This might turn into the same scenario where the traditional Xbox gets "shelved" while they leave it to an OEM (ASUS?) to launch an Xbox branded device. That is when we will know 100% it is over.

I really dont see the point in a new console.
The brand is in spiral, and it has zero exclusives and compounded by the need to never really buy anything game wise.

People are free to discuss as they wish but when a titan of an industry insider like Jez Corden informs us that MS have no plans to cancel any upcoming Xbox hardware it is incumbent on all of us to listen.
Obviously some people will have their own motivations to cast aspersions on Jez's credibility. But for now anyone who is eagerly anticipating exciting next generation Xbox hardware can rest easily.

I believe you, but I'm seriously questioning how that's going to go over at this point with how things have been boiling over.
"Hey, Game Pass is $30 a month, etc snd our games are on PlayStation and Switch 2 but here's our next Gen console for $1000."
Don't see the masses responding to that well in this economy in the US. But maybe the masses are no longer their focus.

Xbox is still a dumpster fire but I wish we had more games like South of Midnight, it's flawed, but trying to be a little bit different, with gorgeous visuals and not too long.

I dunno about cancellations - but at least the Series3DO sounded kind of novel/fresh (as opposed to the last 2 'generation' launches - including the one that just happened this summer) - but that seems to be rejected at large by folks in the know so
Ie. is it really nexgen anymore when all we're getting is smaller and smaller hw increments and stalled software innovation?
Put it another way - if MS again brings a 'this device plays your old games better' - they might as well cancel it instead of burning the money. Unlike their competitors - their audience interested in that is vanishingly small and was too small 5 years ago already.
There is never any plan. Until there is. Corporate execs publicly will always say everything is going well right up until the day they announce the cancellation.

Not disagreeing diversity of this kind is the better part of gaming - but is there a need for a console box for these to exist? MS can keep funding them on other hw ecosystems just like many other pubs do.
The thing that actually gets lost is halo-products like Senua's Saga - but it's not like MS has had much of a track record there for past 15 years.

The reason why so much effort is being poured into maintaining the charade (It is only 4 games) is because there's a 10 -20 Million userbase of very diehard users who all have an absurdly high likelihood of maintaining their higher tiers of GP subscriptions through this. They want to maintain that revenue stream as long as possible while they, over time, restructure Xbox into a far leaner endeavour that focuses on a handful of mega projects.

Kinda hard to trust the dude that threw a fit and long tantrum, when the CMA initially blocked Microsoft's acquisition of ABK back in 2022 and then somehow decided it was a good idea to behave like a manchild over the whole situation. That was a career defining moment for him, when it was revealed what kind of personality was truly hiding underneath the twitter persona and those flashy YouTube podcasts. Hard to take him seriously anymore. I guess the whole slate/Project Latitude situation was just hard hopium for the fanboys apparently. Can't even be an actual man and face his own mistakes with the whole third party thing blowing up in his face.
