Marvel Games says it’ll continue to work with Spider-Man and Wolverine studio Insomniac ‘for many years to come’

Insomniac is currently working on its fourth Marvel game – Marvel's Wolverine, which is set for release in fall 2026 – following the critically and commercially successful Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Marvel's Spider-Man 2. It's not yet officially known what the studio has planned next, however.

A hint may have been dropped by Marvel Games general manager Haluk Mentes, however, who recently stated that Marvel and Insomniac will continue to work together beyond the release of Wolverine.

In an interview with Game Informer, Mentes was asked about Marvel's philosophy regarding video games. He replied that one of the company's responsibilities is to make sure its IP is made available to the next generation of creators, continuing the tradition set by its comic books.

"We've spent upwards of a decade building the Marvel Games portfolio, and it's been fun watching the tapestry unfold game-by-game and to see players' reactions," he explained.

"There's been a tremendous level of thought that went into the games we decided to pursue. We've almost instinctively operated from this place of 'no regrets', meaning if we projected ourselves 20 years into the future and looked back, we don't ever want to say 'we should've made that game' or 'why did we not push harder to make this happen?'.

"There's a great sense of responsibility at play here – Marvel is an almost 90-year-old creative brand, yet it's as fresh as ever because during all that time, each new generation grew up with Marvel, ultimately became creators and left their mark, and then passed the torch to the next generation.

"We happen to be here now, carrying this torch, and we feel we have a debt of gratitude to deliver for the players and future creators, whose first encounter with Marvel might well be one of our games."

Mentes then noted that when a partner creates a successful product with Marvel Games, it essentially becomes part of the family. He cited Insomniac as the perfect example of this, stressing that Wolverine won't be their last collaboration.

"We also actively seek collaborators that want to take on the same mantle," he said. "As is usually the case, once we complete a project together, they, too, become 'Marvel'. Marvel's Wolverine with our dear friends at Insomniac Games is perhaps the epitome of this philosophy.

"We have been working together for more than a decade and developed such a shorthand across multiple Marvel's Spider-Man games that when the time finally came to bring Logan back in spectacular and visceral fashion, it was obvious to everyone on our team that Insomniac was the perfect choice.

"It was our shared culture and values that brought us together, and we're so proud to continue collaborating for many years to come."

Thats too bad, I only like the first Spider-man (which is awesome).
I'm still very skeptical about Wolverine, because they can still hide all the social bullshit before it launchs.

Good, they haven't missed yet. Excited for Wolverine, looks brutal af, but more excited for Spider-Man 3, hopefully we finally see Green Goblin and hopefully the return of Doc Ock.

What a waste. Insomniac's talent would be better utilized elsewhere. And I do not mean Ratched.

Agree with it being a shame that Insomniac is seemingly now a Marvel games studio. Would be nice to see them work on new IPs at the same time.

(I'm over Ratchet and Clank - loved the series, but I've had my fill)

Hopefully? If you played through 2 you know that's a given. Insomniac aren't exactly subtle in anything. It'll be them and probably Carnage being a guest antagonist.

According to the data breach leak, they have a X-men project in development, no? So, no surprise here.

Yeah, it really is. Unfortunate Insomniac went from making and building their own original IPs to getting relegated into established IPs by a third party.

Can we all just admit that insomniac makes games that are only slightly better than Ubisoft games?

Great graphics, shallow gameplay that gets old after about 5 hours. They use a lot of similar tactics that Ubisoft does to make their open worlds. Repetitive, boring.

Every single one of their games is like this.

Insomniac went from a studio that was about to go bankrupt to one of the most successful and generally beloved gaming studios around due to successfully embracing Marvel IPs.
Not everyone likes what they're doing and scores not even remotely telling the whole story if even a 10% of it even. Scores don't matter cuz modern game journos suck ass. It's also not saying much when you consider what they did with the Spider-Man games, all of which in terms of combat get old after 5 hrs or so. Their Spider-Man games are so repetitive and boring when it comes to combat that I struggled to continue playing them for that reason alone, cuz the first game for example has a great story which I really liked as well as Silver Sable DLC, but open world just kills what these games could've been. If they were more like Guardians of the Galaxy they could've been a lot better and way better paced. I wish they'd continue working with these guys to make more linear story-driven action adventure games than anything Insomniac will come up with.

At the cost of stifled originality and creativity and having every idea needing to be approved by Marvel.

I would prefer 100x original, license free content.
I don't disagree with your wants, but a company with a guaranteed income stream isn't going to take risks they don't have to. Having steady income may even allow them to hire another team to work on non Marvel stuff.

The writing in MS2 is trash and it's one of the wokest games released in the past few years. And ppl have the audacity to say this thing is good and ToW2 is bad and made for "modern audiences" because bad haircuts.

I am not sure why you think people don't criticize Spiderman 2 in this way.

So let me get this:
-Excellent Critical Reception
-Excellent Sales Performance
-Great Overall User Reception
-PS5 System Seller

I mean some of you try way too hard to be edgy.

Imagine trying to picture a good side effect of being the new Marvel Games bitch.

But go ahead, forget the Insomniac past games that will never see the light of day anymore.

But will Insomniac keep working with SBI? That's the question.

I want Infamous back. It's better super hero games imo. I don't like devs confining themselves to established marvel/dc lore/constraints.

Gtfoh with that Spider-man 2 pandering bullcrap. No amount of number you spout will make that social shit any better.

It's nowhere near close, just look at the steam reviews or any other place. And TOW2 is miles better in terms of writing and barely has any "modern audience" stuff compared to SM2.

I liked spiderman2 but a lot of it was chore. There are some things that you can only do so many times in a sequel. like with 2 I did almost zero of the collect a thons. I don't think collect o thons are bad it's just the exact same things we had in Spiderman and Miles.

Let's see what Wolverine is like first.

Said it a million times and i'll say it again, Spider-Man 2 is hands down one of the most disappointing games ever made. A true piece of shit in many ways.

And I say this as someone who has the first game right up there with my fave ever ones.

I mean that's like your own opinion...

The point is, Insomniac went from a studio that was about to go bankrupt to one of the most successful and generally beloved gaming studios around due to successfully embracing Marvel IPs.
Wokeflation at its finest.

They are glad to be working, even if it means churning out mass market friendly slop. Life is not that bad down the Activision COD mines y'know?
You get to eat, it pays for the house and the kid's collage tuition.

In the previous leaks, wasn't it shown that Insomniac makes crap from Marvel games, compared to others? Like Marvel takes more than other licensed games?
