Mike Straw: “Half-Life 3 is a Steam Machine launch title, Steam hardware set for Spring 2026”

He heels through trolling, I know this guy.

1) HL3 doesn't exist, but if it does exist I hope that Valve makes it'a Steam Machine exclusive for at least 6 months, just because the autistic screeching over most people not being able to play the game will be fun to listen to.

2) If the Steam Machine doesn't come in at console prices - $500 or maybe $599 or less, it's going to be DOA.

Regardless of the HL3 rumours, I pity anyone making gaming hardware in the coming years. Prices will rise and most peoples will wait on the side for this craze to stop.

In that case, my guess would be

dead wink martindale GIF
Yeah, I think it's going to be DOA.

I've used the gaming laptop analogy before, but you can get a gaming laptop with comparable or even better specs for around $700. Take away the screen, keyboard, and specialized laptop components, and that price could easily drop to $500.

Likewise, I can walk into a Costco today and get a full-sized gaming PC with much better specs than the Steam Machine for right around $1000.

Given that, why would I spend $700+ on the Steam Machine? Small form factor? SteamOS? Form factor isn't that important to most people, and the SteamOS "experience" can be installed on practically any PC for for free.

All of these insiders who were saying "December guys!" can collectively go fuck themselves. And if I remember correctly, Straw was among them. No one knows anything and Twitter, Reddit and Youtube were fucking mistakes.

If all these leaks and rumors truly are mole/leak hunts by Valve, I hope the full story comes out some day because it'd be interesting.

The theory is Valve told different HL news and dates to different people so they could see what makes it to the public and trace it back to who spilled the beans.

I hope it's true. Steam would be the ultimate hardware machine. Combined with Switch 2 you wouldn't need anything else to play the vast majority of games, including those playstation games nicely and freely ported by Sony. Thank you Jim Ryan!

I don't really think it makes much sense to tie HL3 to the Steam Machine release.

I do hope it's coming. It won't be exclusive that's for damn sure lol

I've been saying this the moment the Steam Machine was revealed with no price or minute details.

It will just be a part of the hype and come pre-installed on it as a bonus is my guess.

If they do, they could optimize the game by "coding to the metal"... or whatever. :messenger_confused:

Idgaf about half life 3 cuz I don't think it's real, but I would like to pre order a steam machine now while I have the funds to do so.

Let me give you dough Gaben.

Half Life: DRAM

It's the sequel everyone has been waiting for.

Why would you hold off on a HL game announcement (its in universe...Gordon is dead at this point) based on Dram cost?
The game is going to be a pack in sure and that could impact the overall number of available pre-orders for the hardware...maybe I read the OP incorrectly.

First leak was it would be exclusive to steam machine. That is 100 percent unlikely as steam is a PC and nothing is exclusive to any system.

Being a launch title is more plausible, but to be honest it's highly unlikely. They would have shown it by now to hype it up even more.
Who said it would be exclusive to steam box?

Technically it's still December 🤷🏼
Valve tends to go on a winter break starting the Christmas week. So if anything is going to happen, it needs to happen next week, or it won't happen this year. And I doubt that they will start their marketing for one of the biggest PC games and go on vacation.

He also says they are considering delaying the Steam Machine because of memory prices, and Half-Life 3 as a result.
lol, i say BS
how long are they gonna delay it to wait normalization of memory prices, 1-2 years? thing is already worse than a 5yo console.
just cancel and regroup at that point
