Ubisoft has cancelled 6 games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake

I think that's what happened to the FF9 Remake.

I think the FF9 remake was more likely a victim of FF7.

them having to make 3 pretty chunky games is already taking up a lot of resources, but also it could be werd having 2 remakes that release between eachother.

like, would FF9 be only a single game? would it also be a trilogy? when would it launch? having FF7 remake, then FF7 remake part 2, followed by FF9 remake, followed by FF7 remake part 3 would be kinda wierd lol.

so maybe they are just severely delaying it until FF7 is done.

For some reason, I think this is how it really happened. We're waiting for news about staff reductions. After closing so many projects, it's practically inevitable.

Happened to the FF7 remake once also, before being rebooted.

I have doubts about that, but it definitely got blown up like the Sands of Time remake did the first time.

It feels dumb though. The combat in Sands of Time is bad but that's fixable. It's really telling about the state of game development that they can't get it out.

Serious question with all the losses they've been incurring the last few years are they coming into a cash crunch where they can't finance these new projects?

Ubi is worse than Disney, they fucked up a Star Wars open world game.

I've never seen such a gaming fuck up since Square fucked The Avengers game at the height of the Marvelmania...

I have doubts about that
Just going off the reporting.

Naoki Hamaguchi, a member of the development team, said this was a "sensitive subject", adding: "I've taken over the development side of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Up until now, development has progressed by receiving external collaboration, but from here on out, with production and quality in mind, we're shifting to our in-house organisation. "This company decision was made wanting to control quality as well as keeping the schedule stable."

Funny, I was lamenting the canceling of R6: Patriots recently and thinking how that thing showcased stuff we'd later see in things like the division, watch_dogs and the like, AND those things silently sat in the ubisoft game development pressure cooker for so long.

To kill this remake in particular is interesting, especially since it and the original splinter cell are (or were) cherished releases for Ubi's history. Maybe they're finally realizing they don't know HOW to make those sorts of games anymore nor want to take the time to dust em off and restore em genuinely. Fully expect SC remake to get axed at this point.

Well... fuck it's disappointing for POP
Anyway at this point maybe just ask Nightdive to remaster the trilogy with the usual stuff 4K + modern controllers and I'm good

I understand why people shit on Ubisoft and I spent a few years without playing anything that they released.

However, last December I decided to grab Valhalla on sale. I like the Vikings concept and I used to like Asscreed before they went the RPG route. For like $5 it was pretty low risk.

To be honest I was a bit surprised. The game is pretty big and well detailed, you can tell a lot of resources were spent crafting the world. I'm still not sold on the RPG mechanics and I find it too big (the kind of big that makes me think twice about launching it instead of playing something with a shorter loop) but after about 8 - 10 hrs I wouldn't say the game is bad and I've been having fun. While I'm playing it many comments I've read online over the years come to my mind but I don't think it's a bad game per se.
It's awesome, it's huge, beautiful, great music and art, and fun. Haters like to hate but the RPG ac's have all been great imo.

"For 2026, Ubisoft now forecasts net bookings of around 1.5 billion euros and an operating loss of roughly 1 billion euros. This includes a 650 million euros hit from game cancellations and delays. It previously expected net bookings of around 1.9 billion euros and to break even at operating level."

Very cool.

The fuck? Out of nowhere. I had to do a double take here. But thinking on it, I'm actually kinda glad it got cancelled. I didn't like what they were doing with the leaked footage at all. Not exactly a hot take, but Ubi just sucks at making games nowadays and tackling something as magical as Sands of Time is way outside their depth. I wouldn't be surprised if the Splinter Cell remake gets cancelled too.

Ubisoft can't make a good game to save their lives. Of course they are gonna disband the team that made their last good game in over a decade. They're toast.

I think that's what happened to the FF9 Remake.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: The FFIX remake never existed. I'm convinced that there was just some leak confusion because FFXIV's latest expansion is heavily FFIX themed. The newest dungeon (released last month) in XIV is literally Treno:

  • Creative House 1 was detailed last year. The previously-established Vantage Studios now encompasses the development of Ubisoft's three biggest brands (Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six) and soon the remaining divisions will take on themed groups that cover the company's remaining franchises.
  • Creative House 2 will be dedicated to shooters, and look after The Division, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell.
  • Creative House 3 will focus on live experiences, including For Honor, The Crew, Riders Republic, Brawlhalla, and Skull & Bones.
  • Creative House 4 will feature narrative driven and fantasy-orientated series including Anno, Might & Magic, Rayman, Prince of Persia, and Beyond Good & Evil (yes, seemingly Beyond Good & Evil 2 still lives).
  • Creative House 5 will center on family and casual gaming, including Just Dance, Uno, Hasbro, Idle Miner Tycoon, Ketchapp, Hungry Shark, and Invincible: Guarding the Globe.
Are they restructuring similar to Nintendo with the EPD?

Well done now fucking cancel yourself from planet earth and gaming and we all gucci ❤️

French fucks

Sands of Time remake was all but "done" wasn't it? That's pretty damning.

Anyways, always a good news day when I see modern Ubi in pain.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, bring back 2D Rayman, you hacks.

Similar to Nintendo and SQEX. Specializing based on brands and genre.

I'm a little surprised that the AC and FC people are doing Rainbow Six, and not the shooter / GAAS teams. Other than that, it seems fine.

Looks like CH4 is the art house team for anything creative outside their main brands.

Welp, Ubisoft's dead. They'll be nothing more than a Farcry/AssCreed/some GAAS developer & publisher going forth, maybe some F1 titles if they still make them.

Most likely Beyond Good & Evil 2 is cancelled, and you can kiss new IP from them goodbye. No more Rayman, either. The soul is dead, exactly as could be seen from a mile away.

Square-Enix could be next if they don't push out their activists/venture capitalists investors

Are they restructuring similar to Nintendo with the EPD?

All of that should be taken with massive grains of salt. Until results prove otherwise, best to assume anything that's not among their biggest IP will continue seeing delays and then quietly cancelled, and different units be merged into one another until just a few massive ones working on 3-4 IP remain.

Ubisoft (and almost all other companies in gaming, TBH) does not have nor will never have the developer and game development pipeline culture of Nintendo. So any appearances of this restructuring to Nintendo's should be viewed as purely aesthetical/surface level similarities and nothing more. Until, again, substantive results emerge, which will take at least 3-5 years from the time of restructuring (if you want enough to prove it's not just a fluke).

I remember certain sites being so proud that Indians were making the remake, then they all got booted off it and now it's never even coming out.

Those three are their highest money making IPs, why they had to put them together in order to get Tencent funding. But I'm sure CH2 will provide support in some ways if need be. Would be best to house the gunplay experts in CH2, then have them work as support for CH1.

Ubisoft is such a mismanaged and inefficient company. There was a time when most lovers of the hobby were excited to see what they would announce year after year, but that time has long gone, Ubisoft is just circling the drain trying to stay afloat these days.

Yasuke: I won the war! I am a samurai and haters will have to deal with.

Normal person: I don't care what you are Yasuke. Just shut up and put the fries in the bag.

They couldn't release a remake for a linear game from 2003 that's 6-8 hours long for 5 fucking years. Fed us bullshit just to cancel it in the end. I don't care about another AC game, just seing AC logo makes wanna turn around.

I'd laugh, but I really wanted another Rayman. I knew that they wouldn't even come close to getting another one out.

Never forget Origins and Legends. The two GOATs.
