Let’s face it, GTA 6 is going to be a locked 30fps

I played GTAV on my 360 at release and according to benchmarks it ran like shit, I couldn't have cared less because at release the game was fucking amazing. RDR2 ran at 30fps on my One X and it's an absolute masterpiece. I think it's totally fine if GTAVI runs at 30fps as long as the game itself is good and it's not Shadow of Mordor on the PS3/360.

They will maximize the double dipping.

2026:
Current gen console release
30fps on PS5/XSX
40fps on PS5 Pro

2027:
Next gen console release
60fps on PS6/Xbox Magnus

2028:
PC release

2029:
Nintendo release
Switch 2, low res 30fps

2030:
Next gen handheld release
PS6 Portable

2031:
Ray-Tracing definitive edition
Next gen consoles, 30fps

2032:
Path-Traced definitive edition
PC

2034:
Path Traced Ultimate release
PS7/PC, 60+ fps

2027 next gen consoles 😂😂😂😂😂😂

More like 2030 my friend

The crying on the PC version is going to be awesome. Especially since they are also going to demand Max Details too. That's going to require a decent machine; Zen 3 and a 3060 not going to cut it.

This is a 10+ year game. They need it to age well.

(I do think GTA V is going to stick around because of that. Which R* might be ok with as long as they keep buying Shark Cards)

LOL. I'm PC first but I am not waiting. Launch PS5 at cinematic 24FPS it is.

Rockstart knows their shit when it comes to optimizing games so my bet is that Prochads might be in for a sweet 40 to 60fps mode.

Now, base console lads... yeah. :goog_relieved:

Doubtful, but I think a 40fps mode on the Pro would be doable...But it's R* so they probably won't bother
If there's a 40fps mode on the Pro, there should be one on the base PS5 too. It shouldn't be that hard to scale up or scale down graphical elements to get that. Not like the Pro is a generation ahead of the standard model in performance.

I think most think the game will be CPU-limited due to all the stuff going on. If such is the case, then the slight CPU performance advantage the Pro has over the base console might allow it to reach a more stable 40, but I doubt it.

Yeah that's a given. The real 60 FPS experience will be saved for the next-gen remaster (and obviously PC) where Rockstar will push it as a major selling point alongside upgraded visuals.

If visually and technologically it really feels like a generational leap over what we have now I'm fine with. Otherwise I can just wait to play it on future hardware with better performance.
I hope they at least offer a 40fps mode though.

I think R* will want to keep a certain level of quality and IQ. The base consoles will already be pushed to their absolute limits, I just don't see them doing any other mode than 30. And that's 30 with the expectation of lots of drops too

Ever since GTA 6 was shown I was longing 60fps mode. I struggle so much playing anything at 30fps now and I'm craving playing this game.

I struggle with the amount of tech going into this just how they are going to hit 30fps, let alone anything higher. The CPU is going to be pushed to its limits. The Xbox series S and PS5 CPU's aren't really that much different. Even on the pro, we may get some enhanced visuals only.

I also think Rockstar see no benefit of doing a 60fps mode when they can resell the game later.

I'm not sure if I can hold off for a next gen version so may just have to lump it.

Thoughts?
Its gonna be delayed to 2027, and ofc current gen gonna be 30fps(maybe ps5pr0 version has target 40fps?, man can dream).
On a positive side u wont have to wait very long for pc/nextgen console version if current version launches sometime in 2027 :D

We barely have any games this generation that's locked to 30 fps only . More than likely we will have a 40 or 60fps option also
Agreed. 30 is not the norm anymore. For the biggest game this gen to not have a performance mode would be weird. I won't play it at 30. I wasn't even a fan of gta5 or rdr2.

If there is then great, if there isn't then I'm fine with that too.

people were playing Ocarina of time at 15fps. Bloodborne at 30, RDR2 30. I'd rather play the game than whinge about seeing the difference between 30 and 60fps. This ain't a competitive shooter and if it were a possible 1year headstart on it counts for more than "omg I think I can feel 16 miliseconds, I'm not playing this".

It really isn't if the game looks like, and has the density of GTA6
It's not 2013 anymore. Big open world games already run at 60 FPS on console. CP77 does. If GTA6 released at 30 FPS that's a choice not a limitation and for an action game in 2026 that's embarrassing.

I bet my left nut this game will have a performance mode at launch…

Cyberpunk has nothing like the density, complexity and sheer detail of GTA 6, it's a 5+ year old game. Your standards are just completely out of whack. Yes it's a choice, because it if was released as a 60fps game it would be massively compromised in all those aforementioned areas, which R* obviously didn't want to happen

True. But I bet that was the original plan for Rockstar, then AI messed things up. They definitely want as many as possible to triple dip;
1. Console day 1 release.
2. Next gen console release for higher fps.
3. PC release for higher fps and fidelity.
Bonus 4. Ultimate PC Path-Traced release for the quadruple dip.

I'm not even joking here. After all this time with so many people working on it they want the dev money back somehow. I'm glad I'm not interested enough to be bothered by it, I've still not played GTA5, guess I'll check that out if they release a path/traced ultimate release ahead of the GTA6 PC release.

I guess that if we simply refer to the performance of past day 1 GTA games, then we can assume that the base consoles will struggle to keep a stable 30fps. It will likely be more stable on the Pro, and there could be the faint possibility of a 40fps mode. I've certainly come to terms with the fact that a 60fps mode, even on the Pro, is very, very unlikely.

The reason something like OOT and Goldeneye work at low frame rates is because you're not really getting stuck on in-game geometry.

30 is kinda bare minimum in newer games when you're interacting with the game physics and combat constantly.

Examples:
I need to be able to control my vehicle and not crash constantly.
I need to be able to aim well and see my enemy and survive combat amidst all the graphical detail that newer games have

Not to mention, standards have gone up. We adjusted back then because we had to, not because it was cinematic or good. I remember playing Doom 93 on a 486 33Mhz. It wasn't bad, but a Pentium 100Mhz felt infinitely better.

Tbh while I'd prefer 60fps to be the new minimum, I hope people push enough so the bottom becomes 40fps. It's honestly weird to me how much better 40 feels over 30.

Shame if this is true. For any of us rich folks playing on projectors, 30fps is not just terrible, but induces motion sickness. Even 60fps can, depending on the camera FOV. 120fps solves it completely, similarly to how 90fps is the minimum standard for VR applications.

Also...and this is the most important that these idiots who say this shit miss....those games were played on CRTs. Motion is vastly different on those. 30 fps and lower is actually quite tolerable.

What do you mean? Rockstar hasn't said jack shit to this effect.
