Starting today, more games benefit from new PSSR upscaling on PS5 Pro

PSSR2 x PSSR2 = PSSR4

I forced the update this morning and just peeked into a few games : BF6, Outlaws, and Frostpunk 2. Frostpunk 2 in particular seemed to really be a hell of an upgrade, I'm assuming because it's full of small fiddly details that are resolving better. BF6 performance mode looks basically like Quality mode at this point.

This is what the Pro experience should have been the whole time, but I'm happy it's here now.

Everyone needs to try Darktide 40k and Avatar.

Im not exaggerating in the slightest when I say the difference is INSANE

Tried it quickly, SH2 quality mode is fixed, in FF7 Rebirth everything is crisper and texture detail pops out much more, it's almost like having higher quality textures.
I'll do other tests when I'm back from work.

My goodness it sure didn't fix the pop-in on FFVII Rebirth. Overworld is almost unplayable in all the performance modes.

Which one is it??

I don't think they are patching games, simply looks like some games are "verified" and the system is using PSSR2 automatically even if you disable the toggle.

Really? What's the purpose of the toggle then if it's being applied automatically regardless?

Only games I own that I previously had real issues with were TLOU Part II pixelated shadows when using PSSR and Avatar PSSR mode forcing me to use FSR3 before.
TLOU Part II looks exactly the same in terms of shadows, but in Part I I've noticed the dust particles are finally resolved as good as they were before PSSR, and water alpha no longer have that blur they had before. Very nice.
Avatar now looks like it went from like 900p smeary RT (in FSR) to something like native 4K Ray Reconstruction. Absolutely insane difference on my panel, razor sharp but more importantly stable, shadows (and occlusion in general) are darker and much more realistic because they no longer have that noisy, typical "cotton" appeareance of RT occlusion. This one's amazing actually.

Haven't tried Silent Hill 2, which I still have to play, nor Silent Hill F which I'm about to purchase. Hopefully a patch is on the way for SH2 Performance Mode.

GoY looks quite a bit better with foliage and the small details. Alan Wake 2 seems better as well but you can tell thats really low base resolution.

PS5 Pro going to age like fine wine.

Yeah I tried it in GT7 , Avatar and Yotei and all three were very impressive, this is very close to PC upscaling, honestly its there now. Every game needs to upgrade to that.

thats because the retards over at Square Enix chose the PS5 performance mode instead of the quality mode for the Pro's performance mode. the thickest, dumbest most moronic developers of all time.

Is the PSSR 2.0 firmware update out in the UK yet (it's 1:37pm on 17th March)? Also, I am in the beta and only 4.0 so do I need to opt out to get this update or does the beta update?

I did test for an update this morning around 7:30am before I left for work but there were no game patches for Silent Hill f, Resident Evil Requiem, etc, nor was there any new firmware update.

Also, we need a separate thread listing all the PSSR supported PS5 Pro games with a list of the pros and cons for PSSR1 and PSSR2.

Get out of beta, beta sucks donkey balls and was only for emojis!😘😉🤡🐱🎇🎆💯🧨

Bit of a niche one here, but the dojo effects in the warframe dojo look a lot sharper and less blury when in motion. Examples including the waterfall and the electric sparks, which were a ghosting mess with PSSR1. Perfectly stable now. So, it clearly is working better.

I've quickly tried out a bunch of games. Upon a quick glance here's my impressions:

MGS3 60fps Mode - Good upgrade. Sharper and clearer. Maybe a little bit of artifacting in places still but definitely better than before.

Alan Wake 2 40fps Mode - Doesn't appear any better but I was in the darkness in the woods. Still lots of grainy foliage when in motion. Maybe PSSR2 isn't working properly here.

Avatar 40fps mode - big upgrade. It looks so sharp. The grass is good and the rock textures are so clear. I did see some strange cross hatching artifacting in the distance though in one area.

Control 60fps Mode - it looks really sharp and clear. I can't remember what it looked like before but it looks really nice now.

Dragon Age The Veilguard 60fps mode - this looks more stable with less flickering. This is a good improvement but I think it's similar to PSSR 1 wrt detail but is now more stable.

Silent Hill 2 30fps Quality Mode - The image looks really sharp. I can't see flickering on the foliage and the reflections in the puddles are much more stable though there looks to be a little bit of instability in them still. The leaves blowing around produce noticeable trailing artifacts though.

Black Myth Wukong 40fps & 60fps modes - I can't see any difference in the 60fps mode but the 40fps (which has lumen) still has strobing in the lighting or shadowing in the cave I'm in. The strobing is a lot less but it's still there.

Jedi Survivor - looks really clean

Gran Turismo 7 60fps ray tracing mode - it looks very sharp and stable. Better than before. Reflections on the interior windscreen look low rez though - probably nothing to do with PSSR.

The Finals 60fps & 120fps modes - good improvement in sharpness.

Star Wars Outlaws 40fps & 60fps quality modes - big improvement in sharpness. A lot less boiling/strobing - it looks like it's all gone on the foliage where I was but I did still see a bit in the spaceship but a lot less of it in 60fps mode.

Astrobot - it looked good before but now it looks even sharper and less artifacting/more stable. In fact I can't see any artifacts. It looks super clean.

Rise of the Ronin 60fps mode - I think it's sharper and the grass I see isn't strobing I don't think.

Space Marine 2 60fps mode - Hard to say but I think it's improved in sharpness. Image quality was good before though, rather, the biggest problem with this game was the lower texture quality compared to quality mode.

Assassin's Creed Shadows 40fps & 60fps modes - Both modes look amazingly sharp. The 60fps mode looks great. There might be a tiny bit of blurriness amongst some grasses but overall this looks really good. The 60fps mode is delivering a big upgrade over the base here with its ray tracing and really good image quality.

Battlefield 6 120fps mode - looks super good. Looks like a higher resolution image now.

Kingdom Come 2 - I don't think I can see a difference here so far. It looked good before. The blades of grass are very sharp, well defined and distinct from one another.

Just quick impressions so I might be wrong on some of these. It looks like others are seeing more improvements in Space Marine 2 than I can see just on the brief time I played it. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong wrt how it looked before or I need to visit another area which isn't so much in shadow to see the improvements better.

Silent Hill 2 is fixed. FIXED!! Praise the lord!🥲 In quality mode at least. Flickering in foliage shadows and fog is gone. Reflections in puddles are clean and without noise. Game looks cleaner/clearer/sharper than before. I'm so happy.
With the last of us 2, the difference is of course less extreme, but that also looks clearer. Flickering shadows in distant foliage is still present.
Jedi Survivor is a lot sharper now in performance mode and noise on surfaces is gone.
For SH2, what was needed to be fixed in performance mode again that they removed?
